Strength:

Sounstage, imaging, bass, sweet sounding. The sheer volume of music that they produce was staggering to me. Best I've ever listen to.

Weakness:

Need a large room, the very minimum I'd say @ 300 sq ft.

These are the best speakers I've heard for the money. The sound is so large, sweet, powerful and absorbing. I just have a hard time thinking of another speaker I like this much. They seem to let the recording dictate what you hear and feel. Other speakers I've heard seem to try to control the sound in one way or another, not these. I really do love these things.

Strength:

Exceptional midrange, and better than average highs.

Weakness:

The bass can be boomy, especially in poorly mixed older digital source material. The Steradian (a separate component) is a big help is resolving these issues.

I am using these speakers as L/R in a 35x25x9 basement home theater. I also have Legacy center and rear speakers (but not subs). I have found that these speakers are indeed revealing. As others have stated previously herein, I find that poor source material is completely exposed for what it is. On the other hand, high quality source material easily becomes very involving with these speakers.

Strength:

As mentioned before.

Weakness:

None.

Well said Mr. Baldie, a musician like you should be working as an audio salesman who sells speakers or maybe you are... Did you ever try Eagleston Andra Speakers? I had them for almost a year and love it so much but I had to make my choice for only one pair of speakers and my search goes on until I find a new replacement for my Legacy Focus Speakers.

Strength:

what goes in, comes out the same. For short, no addition or subtraction.

Weakness:

Connected to a mediocare equipment.

Once again another complainer or just a whiner? Dear Mr. Baldie - connecting these to mediocare equipment will give you a mediocare sound. It's as simple as, what goes in goes out the same or maybe you thought that a BAD AIR should come out as GOOD AIR!.. Yeah right, it won't even help using air purifier, GOT IT BOY!... Do more reading, studying and most importantly listening before whining, just a thought.

Strength:

Build quality is good and the bass extension obviates the need for a subwoofer.

Weakness:

Incoherent - highly inaccurate treble and bloated bass

After using these for close to a year, I now see why the original owner wanted to sell them so badly! First of all, I should say that (after reading many of the reviews below) that my hearing has been recently checked, I am a musician and I know what to listen for in audio gear, my equipment is above reproach if Stereophile Recommended Components list is a guage that is valuable, and I don't need to go buy Bose speakers to mask any other problems in my system. That said, these speakers do not perform at a level anywhere near their asking price in my room. I should also make note of a couple of other things: 1) Anyone who believes that loudspeakers are NOT the most obnoxiously colored component in an audio chain are sadly mistaken 2) Even the finest pair of speakers does not always sound good or accurate in some rooms due to room acoustics, etc My comments are valid only in my listening room. I respect that these speakers may sound good in your room but this review should serve the purpose of reminding everyone to listen in their own room. I did not do so prior to buying these. They sounded fine in the sellers home, not as good as I would have thought, but perhaps my mindset that day was inconducive to a proper audition. Suffice it to say that I saw a good deal and I pounced on it. This flaw in my character has nothing to do with my ability to discern accurate musical representation. The main problem I had with these speakers is the multiple drivers tend to make it sound incoherent - as though the music is coming from several different speakers rather than as a coherent whole. The bass is boomy and the treble spotlit to the point of glaring. They sound reasonably accurate through the critical midrange but so do a lot of $1000 monitor speakers! The Steradian helped a bit but not enough to pull the sound out of mediocre territory. No matter what I did to the placement and the room, the sound was never more than halfway decent. As it turns out, paying $2000 for these was not a good deal at all! Again, they did not perform well in MY room. As they seem well made and popular, I encourage anyone to try them in THEIR room and I respect that many people enjoy them. But I cannot use words such as "transparent" or "neutral" or "realistic" because they are anything but that in my experience.

Strength:

This is one of the finest Loudspeakers regardless of price...period!

Weakness:

Matched with inferior equipment you'll hear...suprise!suprise!...inferior sound

I just wanted to follow-up on my observations in my last review. I suspect that any of the previous negative comments you might have read about these fine transducers are probably caused by poor electronics, inferior cables and interconnects, bad system matching and poor placement in the listening environment. Those negative comments are NOT...I repeat...NOT because the Legacy Focus is a poor speaker. Any weaknesses in source components is made very apparent because they are sooo revealing and transparent. I would suggest that those who have been disappointed look elsewhere for solutions, because your not going to solve your problem by trashing these fine speakers.Go out and buy a pair of Bose. Maybe then the problems with your system will be sufficiently masked to allow you to go listen in peace.

Strength:

Has the ability to convey the deepest musical expression and emotion. A transcendental experience.

Weakness:

Will lay bare all weaknesses in your set-up.

Having been a user of the Legacy Classics for about six years, I had some idea of what to expect. I could not have imagined the tremendous improvement in all areas of musical reproduction. Startling clarity and openness...wide and deep soundstage...deep and articulate bass...I could go on and on. Needless to say this is a superlative transducer that is at home with the finest front-end equipment.

Very revealing about the equipment connected to it.

Weakness:

Don't use cheap equipment with these speakers because it will tell you (you'll hear it)!...

For rb122 reviewer, are you an audio enthusiast? You still have a long way to go to know what a good speakers really sound like. Here are some helpful hints for you to start: Get a class A amplifier, class A preamplifier, good cables (interconnect and speaker cables) and a class A CD player and you are all set. By the way, audition the Focus again when you have those equipment mentioned above and thank me later for giving you a good starting point. My set up are as follows: Room dimensions: 16 x 24 x 8 Amplifier: 2 sets of Musical fidelity A3CR Preamplifier: Conrad Johnson PFR CD Player: Accuphase DP-75V Speaker cables: Analysis Plus Oval 9's Shotgun Interconnect Cables: 2 sets of Silver Audio Appasionata With these equipments, Focus speakers are so revealing in every musical aspect, coveys amazing depth and music realism, so palpable in every ways, very holographic that will give you a goosebump for every musical note and lastly, its really worth every penny.

Strength:

Nice looking, deep bass

Weakness:

Sound is colored and unrealistic

Well, at the risk of being called a moron or deaf (as witnessed by previous reviews), I am not enthralled with the performance of this speaker. I have tweaked it, worked with it, moved it around and around and I just can't seem to get decent sound out of it. Bass is deep but boomy, treble is bleached, although the midrange is acceptable, if not the best I've heard. I think I gave them an honest and lengthy audition and they just don't cut it. I've even worked with the room acoustics to no avail. This may very well be the epiphanal set of speakers that others have waxed so eloquently over. But to my ears there are many more neutral and fulfilling speakers for less money - and many whose build quality far surpasses the Legacy! Audition with care in your own room before purchase and be sure to check the internal wiring, drivers and cabinetry. And remember that a 2 rating means "not completely happy" and not that the speaker is garbage! So those of you that love these speakers, more power to you. I'm sorry I do not share your opinion.

Strength:

Full range speaker with performance that can match completion priced over $10K. Musicallity, dynamic, clarity, focused imaging, immediacy, and openess of sound field.

Weakness:

The sweet spot is not as wide as the Legacy Whisper, but by no means indequate.

I found one review in this forum gave one star to the Focus. This person's ears must have serious defects. Or he has a hidden unspoken motivation. The Focus is an excellent sounding speaker, and in my opinion, its performance to price ratio is the best in the $4K to $10K class. Extended high and low freqency response, clarity with a hint of sweetness for the mid range, live sound stage, rich in harmonics. The music reproduced from this speaker is exquisite. I can enjoy the music play back several hours without feeling fatigue. The bass is particularly impressive, deep down to 20 hz, tight, and accurate. I have these speakers for more than a year now, I am totally satisfied with the performance. Audio system consists of Krell FPB 200 amp, BAT VK 5i preamp, ARC CD2 player, Kimber Setect IC 1030 & 1111, LAT SS1000D bi-wire speaker cables. Room size: 13 x 22 x 8 ft, carpeted and treated.
