I purchased these speakers because of their incredible ablity to make all music sound great! From classical to Tori Amos to Prodigy, they sound crystal clear. The have excellent full bass response. Before buying the Lyrix, I auditioned many mid to high end speakers at several stores in my area. But once I heard the clairity and uncoloured sound of the Lyrix, I listened to almost the whole Orbital Brown Album before they kicked me out (because they had been closed a while)! Plus my wife thinks they look great! I am using the Lyrix with a Centrix center channel and a Denon 3200.

Strength:

Bass response, finish, soundstage.

Weakness:

None so far.

Since picking up my Krix Lyrix from the very helpful guys at Frank Prowse HiFi in Mosman Park I've been absolutely amazed with them.

The bass response from these speakers is excellent and they don't at all dissapoint with the mid to treble response either. Due to the rear ported design I had to shift them around a bit until I liked the sound but I couldn't be happier with them. The finish is also fantastic.

These speakers sound like a pair that should cost about 50% more than what they retail for. These are excellent for the semi-serious audio buff. I was after good quality but didn't want to enter the realm of the pure audiophile (and associated price tags) and I believe these speakers to be the best I saw in the reasonably well populated price bracket I was buying in.

I'm using my Krix Lyrix for home theatre with a Krix KDX-C centre and Krix Equinox rears as well as for normal stereo music listening with just the Lyrix by themselves.

Strength:

Sweet midrange, bass depth for speakers this size, quality jarrah finish, clarity.

Weakness:

Very intolerant to room position (need to be well away from rear and side walls), the wrong position can make female vocals sound very 'nasal'. Speaker terminals might be better positioned nearer the base (they are 3/4 way up making the cable quite noticable).

These speakers are much clearer, and have a tighter bass, than the venerable AR38s they replaced. They definitely needed a couple of hours to burn in to take some harshness away. They are driven by a NAD2050 power amp(50wpc) with a NAD3020 acting as pre-amp. Sources: Rega Planar 3 with RB300 and an ~8 y.o. Pioneer PD5300 CD player.

Positioned correctly the rear-ported Lyrix sound very nice in my medium/largish room. The bass is usually tight and extended but with some music, especially more recent well-recorded CDs (eg Sade, Lisa Stanfield) I can't help feeling that speaker colouration is causing some very slight 'booming' at certain frequencies. Not sure, though, if this is not just a result of standing waves in the room or maybe I just haven't found the best position for the speakers yet (My old sealed AR38s were designed to back onto a wall, and they definitely sounded best there. I didn't realise how critical room positioning would be with these speaker - and nobody really tells you. You need an understanding wife with rear ported speakers!)

They are quite efficient, and at low volumes (9 o'clock) my cd collection has literally been rediscovered due to the great sound quality produced. Female vocals and acoustic guitar sound especially good and I find myself listening to the music again, not to the equipment. Louder volumes(12 o'clock) can give a nice thump in the stomach with the right music.

Overall I am more than pleased with these speakers. After comparing them in the showroom to other similar priced floorstanders ($1290 Australian) for only 5 minutes I decided to buy them. They seem very popular because I had to wait a week or two till Krix in Adelaide could make some matched pairs to send to Perth (they were less than a week old when I got them!). I should add that the people at the Krix factory were very pleasant, too, when I contacted them.

If I hadn't been so impulsive I would have liked to also listen to some VAF D.I.Y. speakers, again from Adelaide, which are only slightly more expensive, but no shops stock them in Perth.

The Krix are a classy speaker. Experiment with room positioning.

Strength:

Clarity at all volumes. Solid Bass, and Trebel without a hint of bias either way.

Weakness:

None so far

I had been shopping around for a pair of speakers in the $1000-$2000AU range and nothing seemed to do the music I listen to justice. I had heard good things about Krix, so took a long drive from the other side of the town to get a really good listen in.

Just listening for 5 minutes will be enough.

These speakers are amazing. They are crystal clear at all volume levels and you soon realise that you dont need a sub woofer to listen to music with these. You are too busy hearing the subtlties in the music to care.

Strength:

Sound,acuracy,imaging and finish

Weakness:

Need to play with position but once you find the right place
it is a strength.

These speakers rock no matter what I throw at them with endless bass(for size),
accurate and clean mids and highs. Good stereo and 3d imaging with all music whether
you listen to rock, pop, jazz or classical music at all listening level, soft or loud.
As the mains in a home theater they are just as good with accurate reproduction of the
sound track and that bass for the boom. Cabinetry is first class and the Jarrah finish
is simply gorgeous to look at. Give them an audition but be prepared to walk away
with a set of these speakers, I feel you will have to pay at least twice as much from any
other brand to get the same quality of sound and finish, I tried and could not find any.

Strength:

People mention price, tech talk & looks but it's the sound that sells these speakers. Since my purchase 10 years ago three of my buddies went and got a set of Lyrix
themselves. You will hear sounds and instruments you've never heard on your favourite CD's.

Weakness:

Position these speakers correctly and you will never have a problem.

Since my Lyrx purchase 10 years ago I have added to my home theatre : 1 Krix Centrix centre channel
: 1 Krix Seismix 5 Subwoofer
: 2 Krix KX 1420 Cinema Rear Speakers
: 2 Krix Brix2 (Used as front effects)
All 8 Krix speakers are driven wonderfully by Yamaha's DSP-A1.
This speaker would be a great buy for anyone starting a serious stereo or home theatre.
If I could fit more Krix into my lounge I would.

I very nearly by-passed this speaker when auditioning mid to high end products. Included in my audition list were Dynaudios, Kefs, MS, B&W, with Dynaudio topping the list until I heard the Lyrix. Coupled to a pair of valve mono amplifiers (Valvemaster) the warmth, soundstaging fidelity, and openness put forward by the Lyrix were outstanding. These qualities were totally lacking in the Dynaudios (Audience 8) due to their inefficiency when coupled to valves.
For valve amp enthusiasts, seriously consider this loudspeaker. It even provides great bass response from the valves.
I was one eyed Dynaudios until I heard the Lyrix and at half the price, an even bigger bonus!

I purchased the Krix Lyrix in 1993. My stereo at the time was a Pioneer all in one job. I was amazed at the difference these speakers made to my poor excuse for a hifi system. I tested lots of other brands at the time but none could come close to the Krix, especially for the money.

I recently upgraded to a surround system:
A/V Amp NAD T751
DVD Pioneer DV-344
CD Yamaha CDC 685
Tape Yamaha KXW-321
Sub M&K V-125
Centre Aaron
Rear Aaron dipole

I wanted to keep my Krix as I believe they are still able to hold their own in the current market. They also work in well the Aaron centre and rears.

The NAD amp has a modest power rating but it is more than enough to to startle my old speakers. The Krix have found new life. The soundstage is huge and the stereo imaging is precise. I have the amp set to cut all pre 100 hz to the sub which can handle anything I throw at it.

Krix Lyrix can be very bright but the NAD has been able to keep this under control. This is without any input to the treble and bass controls which are set at zero (this again, shows the quality of the amp).

These speakers are my best find with regards to hifi gear and they are eight years old. They were good value for money in 1993 and I believe you would have to spend in excess of US$1500 to better them today. If you are in the hunt for some hifi gear make sure you audition a pair of these before you buy. Once you have heard them your hunting will be over.

If you enjoy listening to music - Krix Lyrix

If you are an "audiophile" and can look past the budget price in comparrison to your high end gear - Krix Lyrix

For the last 3 years, my Krix Lyrix have been continually performing beyond my expectations. I have recently purchased a Yamaha RX-V 995 receiver and once again, the krix shine with all types of music. The sound is great and the quality of workmanship is outstanding for the price.
