Klipsch ORN Floorstanding Speakers

Klipsch ORN Floorstanding Speakers

DESCRIPTION

Audio pioneer and company founder Paul W. Klipsch launched the Klipschorn loudspeaker in 1946 to enable people, for the first time ever, to experience the power, detail and emotion of a live performance at home. Commonly called a corner-horn speaker, the remarkably uncommon Klipschorn includes a highly efficient horn loaded tweeter and midrange compression driver. Its patented folded-horn 15 woofer delivers powerful low frequencies.

Strength:

Dynamics, clarity, low distortion, live sound!

Weakness:

Corner Placement. Gotta have the right room with good, solid corners.

My 1978 Walnut Oiled Klipshorns are incredible. Simply the best I have heard at any price. It makes me wonder why there are so many speakers out there that cost many times more than the mighty Klipshorn, yet do not sound nearly as good. Mate these things will quality electronics (preferably tubes), and you will have reached the pinnacle of what is available in audio!

Strength:

Efficency, finish, sound size, bass responce, all horn drivers (no cones)

Weakness:

need space for them.

AAAAAAAAA+++++!!! What can I say I just love them. I have been waiting for almost 20 years to finally be in the position to afford this addiction we call stereo! These are wonderful. They sound smoth transparent and are unmatched in sound field. They have made me rethink that more power is better. I am now using 2 15 watt class A valve amps to drive them, and it is awsome!

Dynamics,clarity,detail of recordings,looks.

Weakness:

Need a big room, need a really good valve amp, better suited to vinyl

Wow!!!What can I say.Definately the most outstanding speaker that I have ever listened to!I listened to it at a hifi dealership at Hong Kong.It was partnered with a insanely expensive Audio Note Ongaku. The best speaker in the world meets the best amp!The result was really outstanding, just the warmth, dynamics, the speed was brilliant, really plays with your emotions when playing your favourite piece of music.Even my sister as well as my cousin(Not hifi people at all)were very impressed! I felt a little depressed afterwards knowing that I will never afford such a system. But if you have the money as well as a giant room needed for them -go for it!

Strength:

Very Accurate, Efficient, Lets you really listen to the Music.

Weakness:

None, Embarrasses Everyone else''s speakers

Well, there''s a big difference in sticking your big toe in the water as compared to diving in the pool. Klipschorns are the most accurate, dynamic and purest sound on the planet. Let the audiophiles scoff at them, who cares! You must have the right room, clean equipment (Fet amp sound great!), and listen to them flat. I''ve had some very fine speakers over the years, but Klipschorns are the best. Even the Mcintosh Xrt-20s can''t even come close. Listen for yourself, that''s the only true test. Forget what people say about horn loaded speakers being honky or bad sounding. They can do what no other speaker can do. The quiet passages are better, the dynamic range is outstanding, and the bass very accurate. People think that they do not have bass. What they don''t have is over-emphasized bass. Listen to Blue Oyster Cult''s Heaven Forbid Cd, or Celine Dion (My heart will go On). My wife was bought to tears. At night, (because of their high efficiency) one watt of input is outstanding!! Thank you, Paul W. Klipsch for desiging such a Wonderful speaker, thank you Fred Klipsch for continuing to manufacture it, It is the world''s Best!!

Strength:

Extremely low distortion, very high sound output per watt, very good bass

Weakness:

None

I have used them for about 20 years(same pair which I bought used), and have no complaints (1995 is the oldest date available on this review form). They must be placed in a corner, of course, and are pretty big, but some of them look beautiful-mine are merely unfinished birch, and look good to me.

Because I am a real "low bass freak", I cross them over to a PAIR of genuine Cerwin-Vega Earthquakes-the ones made for Universal Studios for the movies. I cross them at about 60 Hz to a Cerwin A-2200 amp, which were also used by Universal and modified by Cerwin to put out ~400 watts per channel at low freqs. The Klipschorns will rumble a big room pretty well by themselves without using a lot of power, but I'm off the deep end of the sanity scale.

I heard these giants about 15 years ago when I was searching for some new speakers. I went into a sound room to demo some affordable speakers and the salesman said "if you think those are something....listen to these." Standing in the corner rising above all else, was a pair of Khorns. When he moved a signal through them...that's when I first truly heard "music." I was without speech....I was speechless. I never knew that music could so envelope you...move you..make everything else disappear. With limited funds...I left with some Forte's..which I have and still love. But finally, my wallet has caught up with my taste and a pair of new Khorns are coming home. They will anchor my Audio/home theater with that big, room filling, detailed sound that Klipsch is so famous for. I recently listened to a pair of Definitive Technology towers.... I heard speakers...not music. Why do we insist that New is always better? What the Khorns were 30 years ago...they are today..the reference standard by which all "live" music should be compared.

Strength:

Lifelike dynamics, both large and small scale, extremely low distortion, most accurate low to mid bass response available, sensitive enough to allow any choice of amplification, most realistic recreation of music and sound I've ever experienced at home

Weakness:

Large, require corner placement, so sensitive that any noise or hummm in upstream components will be audible

I don't usually bother to post here at audioreview, but I happened to see the last post by someone who called themselves AKS. I just don't understand why some people enjoy trashing things they have no experience with. The comment that the Klipschorn is only available "used" (guess nobody told the folks in Hope that they aren't selling them anymore), that the woofer surrounds will be disintegrating (never seen that happen to ANY KHorn, even some older than I am... and I was born in 1955...), that they are "strident" (KHorns have the most undistorted upper midrange and treble of any speaker I've ever heard, including top B&Ws, Thiels, Martin Logans, Revels, several others.)

These speakers will let you experience the closest thing to being at a concert that you can create at home. And know, I'm not just talking about 125dB+ rock concerts - put on the Modern Jazz Quartet quietly, late at night, and you are in the room with them.

Incredible speakers.

I don't call myself an audiophile like some of you out there. I am just someone who like electronic and stuff like that. I have listened to different brands of speakers, some famous some not, but the k-horns are my favorite. They just sound good, real good,PERIOD. There are no speakers out there that sound as good as the k-horns. They are classic.

Weakness:

It doesn't get any better than this. No other loudspeaker I have ever heard can come close to making music sound like MUSIC than the Klipschorns. Hey fellas, isn't that what it's really all about -- MUSIC?????
