Weakness:

Fall apart if you breath on them.

Today my third Klipsch product has died. I'm angry and this is why I'm writting the review.

I bought a Promedia 4.1 computer system in March. The amp died four months later with only regular use. In August I bought a Promedia 5.1 which has died on me today with only regular use. I don't crank these systems up. I have a Marantz SR14EX and Viennas as my home theater and audio system. I have an Adcom Preamp, Marantz 6100 amps, and KLF 30s downstairs for those times that I want to hear it LOUD. I don't abuse these Promedias.

Last week I noticed a buzzing coming from one of my KLF 30s. One of the cones had come unglued. Like I said, I'm only running one 125 Watt Marantz amp into each of these KLF 30s. They are supposed to take 200 Watts RMS. Unfortunatly for me I've just discovered that their home speakers are just as much of a peice of junk as the Promedia series.

I'm frustrated because these speakers weren't inexpensive but, they do seem to be cheap. I guess it's time to see how Klipsch warranty work fairs.

Strength:

as little or as much clean sound as you want.

Weakness:

cases cannot withstand the impact of their own bass drivers!

I am writing this review mainly for some of the other owners of this outstanding pair of speaker.

To start off, I have owned mine for 3-4 years now. I purchased them new. At the time of purchase, I had a Sony ES receiver that I hooked them to. My problem was getting enough bass out of the receiver. I immediately bought a cheapie EQ to add bass to the signal. I was amazed at how much bass these speakers can produce. But, my eq introduced way too much hiss, so I went with less bass and a cleaner signal. Later I bought a top yamaha receiver (I think it was the DSP-A1. I hoped this receiver would pump out more bass. Nope, not much more than the Sony. I even spent and extra $150 for the Yamaha eq. Still too much noise was introduced. Then I moved on to a Denon AVR-4800 with a separate 200 watt per channel amp just for the mains. Still not enough bass. I gave up on trying to get these speakers to perform to my satisfaction. About 8 months later, I stumbled into a music store. I asked the owner, what do you got that will give me more bass that is clean? He broke out this lone unit called an acoustic phase coupler. I told him I wanted it for my Home Theater. He pulled it back and said it was for professional speakers and would most likely destroy my speakers. I told him I had some phat Klipsch speakers that should have no problem with it. He agreed. I took it home and plugged it in between my receiver and front channel amp. God, I finally found the missing link. The unit takes the signal and all freqs below 120 Hz, it add another octave below that. The result is just the right amount of bowel loosening bass. Bass you can hear, but doesn't overwhelm. Bass that shakes your pantlegs, but you can still hear dialog. There is a dial on the front so I can add as little or as much enhancement as I want. The final necessary touch was putting the speakers on 1 foot spiked stands. This cleared up the muddiness and makes the individual bass notes much easier to distinguish. So for anyone out there looking for more bass, skip right over the EQs. My unit is specifically called a Phase Coupled Activator - Digital Fundamental Restoration System With Subsonic Filter. It is made by a company called Audio Contol, based in Washington state. I have spoke with DJs and they knew of other companies that have similiar types of devices. I paided about $150 for the piece. I think he said it retailed for about $300 new. I saw one of the exact unit go for $75 on Ebay, but it was closed. I would have gave him $100, because I have had several people offer me $300 for my unit! Hope this info helps someone else out there looking for inner peace with these speakers. For me it was always frustrating knowing my speakers weren't performing at the theater-capable levels. But now I can finally sleep well, knowing my theater is complete.

SEEMS TO HAV E A GAP IN THE LOWER MIDRANGE AND THE TWEETER AND MIDRANGE SECTION SOUND FAIRLY HARSH

WELL I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THESE SPEAKERS WHEN I FIRST LISTENED TO THEM. THE CLARITY DEPTH AND SHEAR VOLUME IS INCREDIBLE. I WAS SO IMPRESSED I WAS FEELING A LITTLE UPSET ABOUT MY SYSTEM(THESE ARE MY NEIGHBOR'S SPEAKERS). THEN I TOOK THE TIME TO GO ACROSS THE HALL AND DO A LITTLE COMPARISON WITH MINE. SYSTEMS ARE AS IS:
MINE:
-ONKYO A-919 INTEGRATED AMP(120+120 20-20,000 +0-.5 AND 0.0015THD AT 8 OHMS-DENON DCM-370
-INTERCONNECTS ARE KIMBER KABLE PBJ
-SPEAKER WIRES ARE AUDIOQUEST TYPE 6 FOR MAINS AND MONSTER CABLE Z-1 FOR SUB(NO ADJUSTING PRE-AMP OUT ON INTEGRATED AMP)
-JBL 4312B MKII (A JAPAN ONLY SPEAKER ...A CONTINUATION OF THE 4300 STUDIO CONTROL MONITER SPEAKER LINE-UP)
-KLIPSCH KSW-12 SUBWOOFER
HIS:
-MAINSTREAM SONY ES RECEIVER(110x5)
-MAINSTREAM SONY CD PLAYER 5-DISK
-MONSTER CABLE IL250 INTERLINKS
-MONSTER CABLE P.O.S. SPEAKER WIRE
-KILPSCH KLF 30 MAINS
-KLIPSCH SYNERGY SURROUND SOUND SETUP
-KILPSCH KSW-12

NOW I'M NOT GOING TO LIE TO YOU FOR DB LEVELS HE WHOOPS MY BUT. I COME CLOSE BUT I JUST CANNOT HANG. BUT FOR OVERALL SOUND QUALITY I PREFER THE CRISP CLEAR MIDRANGE AND LIFELIKE TWEETER'S OF MY JBL'S. HE AGREE'S. WE ARE DORM DWELLERS IN THE USAF SO WE DO NOT HAVE TOO MUCH MONEY INVESTED. I THINK MY TOTAL SYSTEM COST WAS LIKE 2500 AND HIS WAS AROUND THE SAME. I THINK WITH A GOOD GROUND WORK INSTEAD OF THE MAINSTREAM STUFF HE OWNS THE SPEAKERS WOULD BE INCREDIBLE. I AM WONDERING IF THE HIGHS AND MIDS WOULD BE A LOT CLEANER IF HE TOOK TIME AND MONEY TO REPLACE THE INTERCONNECTS AND SPEAKER CABLE...ANYONE HAVE ANY RESPONSE TO THIS?

ALSO I WAS WONDERING SOMETHING. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BASS. ONE OF MY FRIENDS' PAIR OF JBL ND-310'S OUTPERFORMS THESE. ALSO I FIND HIS SYSTEM TO BE MORE CLEAR IN THE UPPER AREA TOO.

FOR THE PRICE I WOULD BE HESITANT TO BUY THESE BUT IF YOU LIKE LOUD CLEAR MUSIC THEY ARE RIGHT FOR YOU...AS FOR ME I WILL STICK TO MORE SUBTLE VOLUMES(I CAN STILL CRANK) AND MORE DETAIL. BESIDES HIS SPEAKERS ARE KIND OF FATIGUING WHICH I REALLY DISLIKE. ALL IN ALL A DESCENT SPEAKER BUT NOT A GREAT BARGIAN.

Strength:

Extremely accurate reproduction with an awesome low end. also very efficient

Weakness:

none...as long as you don't have to move them. not video shielded

I actually bought this pair only three weeks after buying a brand new pair of klipsch rf-3. I found them at a local pawn shop and couldn't pass them up. The do a wonderful job on all types of music from classical to jazz to pop. Even though they are very efficient, a good amp really makes them shine. I am running a Carver A-500x at 250 watts per channel. I have a velodyne 15 inch sub that is almost not neeeded. The 4 12 inch woofers put out a tremendous amount of accurate bass. My rf-3's are now for sale...great speakers but can't compare to the klf-30's.

My system: Carver ct-26v preamp/tuner, Carver A-500x amp, Denon dn-h800 cd changer, Sony 75es Dat Recorder, Pioneer elite ct-05d cassette deck, Bang & Olafson turntable, Philips cd burner

Strength:

Clariy, efficiency, tonal range, company support, bi-wirable

Weakness:

Can be bright if not matched to the right hardware. Will bring out deficiencies in lesser equipment.

WOW, still love these as much as i loved the Forte's when i first listened to Klipsch many years ago. Heard these and was in love again!

They were harsh with the first receiver i used (Denon 4800), but then i got a Yamaha RX-V3000 and they sound FANTASTIC at any volume. They also sounded really clean with a buddies old Onkyo.

The horns are very accurate and the 2 12" woofers will thunder after they're broken in a little. They're VERY efficient, so you could practically drive them with a walkman.

If you have cheap equipment to drive these with, or cheap zip cord speaker cable, you'll definatly be left wanting to go into an upgrade frenzy. I temporarily drove them with an old Kenwood, and while it wasn't the cleanest sound, they still sounded great.

The KLF-C7 and a good set of surrounds (ksp-s6 or rs-3) really round out the whole surround package. Movies are awsome, and 6 channel music is incredible!

Too bad this line is being discontinued. But you can almost always find them for sale on E-Bay or Klipsch.com

I am pleasnatly surprised at how nice these speakers sound. They are very open and spacious. Sound good with movies or music. If you use them with a tube amp, they sound really good. There might be a slight coloration in the midrange, but I think it has a lot to do with the recordings. I hear a lot more detail with these speakers than with some of my other speakers that I own. Soundstage is pretty good also. One thing I personally like is that you don't lose any sound when listening at lower volumes. But they sure can take a lot and play quite loud if you want them to. These are very efficient speakers and you really don't need a high powered amp for them to perform well. These may or may not sound "livelike", or "concertlike", but to me they sound musical, which to me means that you can get into the music and really enjoy what you hear.

My search is over! I tried Infinity Kappa 7.1's, Eosone RSF1000's and neither could fill my room with the sound I wanted. Decided to give an old reliable name a try and purchased a pair of Klipsch KLF 30's for a try. The sound is balanced and magnificant! The hi and mid Klipschorns don't run out of room even at very high volumes and the twin 12" woofers kick best when bi-amped.
I'm hard to please, but these are the best I've tried! The best part of it is that they cost less than the Eosone's that run out of mid at moderate volumes!
