Strength:

Everything about the sound !!!

Weakness:

The Cabinet !!!

Best speaker that I have ever owned, untill I played ENYA at about 110 db. The front panel on my left speaker came loose, unglued and rattled. I returned them for a full refund, regretfully. I did not want to take a chance on the other 3 "Glued" panels coming loose. Poor workmanship, materials, and quality. Its too bad, it really is. Please "klipsch", try nails, or something that makes more sense. I was only using a 60 wpc nad integrated amp. Need I say more.

Strength:

The highs, mids and lows were OK, but no where near where a $1520.00 speaker should be.

Weakness:

The highs will make you cover your ears at high levels.

I have been searching for speakers several months now. After reading the “blind test” this week, I decided to try it myself. I went to a local dealer who carries multiple big name speakers, including the Bose 701’s and the KLF 30’s. I too was a Bose basher. I took a buddy and a blindfold (yes, everyone though we were crazy). Well guess what? I picked the Bose 701’s over all the rest too when I didn’t know what I was listening to. In fact, the KLF 30’s were annoying with nasty highs and whooshed lows. I bought the 701’s and have a good powered sub to go with them. I watched U-571 and it was super with my new speakers. These speakers rock.

Strength:

Exteremly powerfull Room filling mids and highs

Weakness:

If not set up right are thin and bright, are also shy in true deep bass

These are definitly in your face speakers. When i got them
from Uncles stereo, (they deliverd them) i set them up about eight feet apart. At first i was horrified by the sound, loud and thin. After a couple of tricks i was able to improve the sound considerably. First i installed the spikes, BETTER , Then i bi-amped them, BETTER again. the sound was more focused and warmer but these things are really in your face. Even when played low these speakers have a very busy sound and seem loud. I grew to like the mids and highs, they have an exciteing sound but the problem is the bass or lack of it.The 30's put out alot of MidbassBut very little low bass.I was wondering what the drivers looked like so i used a flash light to look in the port and was suprised to see two stamped metal frame 12's, That is kind of cheap. The low bass can not be enhanced either, addition of low bass (30hz) from EQ just made them sound strange. The bass sounded oooomy , not Boomy. you could tell they just don't put out much low bass and dont know what to do with it when it is presant. I like a speaker that has weight in the bass without being boomy. But i started likeing this speaker quite a bit for it's mid and high performance, i almost kept them but could not get past the bass thing. The biamp power was 200 wpc to lows, and 130 to the mid/high. These speakers need a good six or seven days to break in, at first they sounded like PA speakers but then they broke in nicely and i heard some good imageing and detail. overall this was not the speaker for me but not a bad speaker; if i had the room (and budget)
i would have kept them but that is not the case.

Strength:

clairity, detail, lifelike "live" imaging, smooooooooooooth

Weakness:

I have trouble turning them off

I've had these speakers for about two years. You should hear them. I paid 1600 for a pair and would pay twice that much if i had to.

if you like flat and dull tweeters that you have to pump 200
watts through - these aren't for you. nothing compares to the clairity of horns. Screw hi-fi, this is like having the performer in fornt of you. and yes, i've heard electrostatics
whats the point of see-through sound--?

if you want it thick and authoritative with an magical
smoothness look no further

-amazing for verdi -through- slayer

and bass- how does 4X 12 inch front firing poly's sound--

yep, just save the cash on a sub-, you shouldn't need it

I never intend to by another speaker.

Strength:

Increadable bass. For the price these are great speakers.

Weakness:

Large

I got these last year and thought they sounded good with a cheap pioneer receiver i had. I got a Onkyo TX-DS797 and these speakers sound fantastic with it. The only problem is that I cant seem to get all the bass out of them I want even with the bass turned up to +12. I am going to look into the previous posts solution.

The best speaker for the money. Go to you local dealer and listen to a pair of these. You will definitely walk out with a pair. You can throw anything at these and they don't distort or strugle a bit.

Strength:

excellent midrange & overall dynamics

Weakness:

detail in treble

i have auditioned this speaker twice for a total of about 3hrs using (for the most part) top of the line bryston preamp & mono amps.

i was suprised by how much i liked the speaker. it projects a large sound stage with a solid image (but it won't appeal to those who like "pinpoint" imaging on a minature soundstage).

the crossover from woofers to horns was pretty clean. at least nothing stuck out to me particularly noticeable.

the speakers have uncompressed dynamics with low apparent distortion. it reminds me somewhat of headphones in that distortion is low which makes it a little difficult to recognize you are playing the music loud; assuming you want to keep your hearing.

i thought female vocals came accross especially nice. the upper bass was more pronouced than what i am used to, but was well controlled & defined using the brystons.

one area that i felt was inferior to my martin-logans was in the detail in the treble. this was especially apparent on cymbals. it wasn't terrible, but not nearly as good as the midrange.

it has substatial bass output and probably doesn't require a sub for music, but i would want one for movies.

when i heard the speaker hooked up to a b&k recv'r, i wasn't nearly as impressed. the highend was fatigueing and the bass was really bloated and lacking delineation of notes. so, while just about anything can drive them to high volumes, the speaker really seems to benefits from good amplifiers from my exposure.
