Strength:

wow, great sound. the bass was fairly good, I do not go too much for a lot of bass anway, nice mid range, have testes the high frequencies

Weakness:

none really at this price

I just got these to hook up every single room in my place, so these were primarily meant for the bathroom! I was a bit skeptical at first at the price and appearance, but when I hooked them up, was I surprised. My only question is, how do you use the mounts? Mine did not come with instructions. If anyone would take the time to send me detailed instructions, I would be very grateful. Again unbeatable for the price

Strength:

Great sound! Really low price!

Weakness:

small, not much bass.

I bought my first pair of these to replace the satellites for my Cambridge Soundworks "Soundworks" sub-sat computer speaker system (see my review of the Cambridge elsewhere on this site). The "Soundworks" system comes with little tiny cube speakers that sound just awful. I saw these on sale for $20 a pair and figured "what can I lose?"
Boy, what a difference! I could not believe the sound! As a matter of fact, I don't recall any instance of listening to these speakers where they sounded better than when attached to that little Cambridge sub amp. Somehow they "mesh" just right with each other. VERY musical! I am even getting to like the little sub now because of it's amp and how it sounds with these speakers. I put together computers for friends and family, and needless to say, a lot of computers went out with this speaker combination. (I used to be able to buy just the sub for $39, but alas my source ran out of them. Now you must purchase the whole system from Cambridge for $69.)
I currently have a Klipsch ProMedia 4.0 system on my computer, with a Sound Blaster MP3+5.1 sound card. The ProMedia's have a "nasally" sound in the midrange, so in an effort to improve their sound, I replaced the sats with KLH's. Unfortunately, the problem seems to be in the amp, very little improvement. The bright side is, the kits for wall mounting the ProMedia's is very expensive. More expensive than buying 2 pair of 970A's ($40), which come with the wall mounting kit included! I also have a small amp and another 970A for the center channel. I watch DVD's in 5.1 surround on my computer, and with the PoMedia sub, the sound is awesome! Not very musical, but GREAT for movies.
Those of you who complain about the cabinet rattles are barking up the wrong tree. I have bought and used many pair of these speakers (maybe 20?), and have heard no cabinet rattle. I think you are hearing the little woofer bottoming out. Keep it over 80hz, and that should solve your problem.

Strength:

Excellent speaker... only $30 a pair. Very clear mids and highs, tonal neutrality

Weakness:

Cabinet rattles (with bass all the way up in the store) but anyone who is audiophile will not do that

These speakers are very good for the price-very clear mids and highs. Just don't make the amateur mistake of jacking up the bass on your equip- go and find a decent subwoofer to pickup any frequencies below 90hz. Also, if you have the equipment and knowledge, consider opening up the cabinet, measuring the internal volume, and build a new cabinet. I'm planning to do this in a few days since i'm out of college for now and have nothing to do :-) Also, change the caps in the crossovers to solen polypropylene capacitors. It's a simple swap if you have soldering iron. Just make sure you get the right voltage and inductance. Also change the internal wiring to high quality speaker cable. This will improve clarity 100% and will make the speakers unbeatable, with high quality cable and gold plated terminals. It might cost you more than the price of the speaker to do all this, but it will be worth it in the end. I should have it done in a few weeks, so if you are interested in how it goes, give me email.

Strength:

3 ways, do what they're told. Comes with wall brackets, pads for setting on table.

Weakness:

90 day warrenty.

Very impressed with these speakers, they deliver very defined highs. They are not to be used as main speakers, or to deliver bass in anyway. They are surround speakers, and they are excellent at that.
They are quite small, and yet have a woofer, midrange and tweeter, I was very impressed. I highly recommend them as surround speakers.
In terms of using them as outside speakers, they will do an adequate job. I ran them alone on my receiver, and they sound O.K., don't expect to be heaven with sound, they will deliver accuratly.
Use as surrounds, EXCELLENT.

Strength:

excellent value @ 11.00 a speaker

Weakness:

no bass, but what do you expect from a 4" woofer?

I hung these on my patio for about a month and they didn't have quite the bass I was looking for so I bought the KLH 980A speakers (2-way). I prefer the sound of the 980A but the 970s are a great value for the price. Construction quality is especially good for a speaker of this price range. Maybe I didn't give them enough time to break in. Value rating is definitely a 5.

This is the best speaker Value I've gotten. I got them to upgrade my regular home theater speakers. They gave new life back to that Prologic reciever. The sound was exceptional for the price and in comparison to what it replaced. Now that I've upgraded my reciever to 100 watts per channel, I'm going to make mid tower speakers out of my old ones and get two new main speakers. They are durable(dropped twice from five feet) a great value (20 bucks for a pair) and are very easy to install (nice brackets, rubber pads, and comes with wires). Plus they stood up tot he worst possible element, my college dorm room =)

They do have little bass, but what do you expect. Actually the bass did improve over time. Still the BEST VALUE
