My work buddy told me to check out the review site on these speakers, and i was glad to! Actually hoping to find someone who could possibly disagree with the performance of these speakers! I have heard the best monitors (in studio) as well as in-home studio's,.......Russell please tell us why you subjectively gave those totally untrue remarks about the sva's. You said good not great speakers,...what have you honestly heard? I know I've heard the BEST and the sva 1800's are some of them! What do you know about Living voice, Wilson Benesch, Avantgarde,Boulder electronics? These electronics some of which could easily replace a house's value give you more sound than you could possibly stand. If you ask me I think your'e one of those guy's who likes to put an excellent thing down to uplift the crap you must own ($159.95 sherwood reciever,dcm towers with piezo tweets and lampcord wires!) I'm totaly for bi-amplification myself but only a few of us can afford to go bi-amp with deacent amplifiers anyway. If you didn't get my point I really know my stuff and for the money if you close your eyes ,.......and your mouth and listen to these things set up properly you can tell that they thouroughly outclass speakers costing ten times as much or more for what they give you! Just ask any TRUE AUDIOPHILE! Properly broken-in/burned in,............10 + STARS.........Yeah!

These are good, but not great speakers.I used to sell them so I have an idea of what they can, and can not do.
The sound staging and imaging is sub par for the price.
As a matter of fact, the also discontinued JBL SVA-1500 was much better in this regard, although it had an octave less bass.
The SVA-1800 will play loud, but at a price.
It hardens up and loses detail.
This series is also a bit dry on top and only average in transparancy for $1,500 floor speakers.
I am shocked by all the 5 star ratings.
I am tempted to give the SVA-1800 1 star to balance things out.
However, these are not bad speakers and deserve 3 stars.
For anyone who can get these for $500/pair new, they deserve 4 stars.

All I can say is WOW! I found a pair of the JBL SVA1800's atBest Buy for $475 for the pair. (I was told these speakers sold
for 3 times as much when they first came out). These speakers
are way too good for words and at the price, they are a steal. I use
them in my home theater and music system and they are perfect.
If I had more money, I would buy them all up to use for years to
come. These have a very clean sound and are solid built. Too bad
JBL discontinued these speakers. I don't remember ever seeing them
until they were discontinued. What a bummer. All I can say to everyone
out there is if you find a pair of the 1800's, BUY THEM! You will not
be disappointed. If you are, you can probably turn around and sell them
for twice the price once everyone realizes how good these speakers are and
that they can't buy them retail anymore.

I listen to a lot of high base music. So the 2 8inch mids
gives me enough base for my listening. When I first got my
speakers I use to put both speakers facing each other so that I would be sitting in the middle enjoying the clarity of the horn tweaters with the mid range base pounding at my ears.
I think for the type of listening I do and for the price that I got them for I can say that I am satisfied with my speakers. I think for Rock and Roll and Hip Hop this is a
good choses. But for other types of music I would probably go for a different speaker.

I got my 1800s on closeout for $525. Best money I ever spent. Wish I had a few more pair!!

Well my system in now complete!! I have 4 1800's for mains and surrounds and the center to compliment them!! I am a lucky person indeed. Everyone that hears what these speakers can do is simple astounded! JBL has just got themselves a happy consumer for life! And thats hard to do these days!! I live in harmony and listen with pleasure thnaks to these speakers!! JBL RULES!!!!!!!

WOW!! AFTER FINDING TWO OF THESE IN FREDERICKSBURG VA. AS THE LAST OF THE DEMO'SDROVE TO BALTIMORE MD. TO GET TWO MORE. WHY? AFTER I HEARD JUST THE TWO SPEAKERS PLAYING OUF OF A YAMAHA R-V1105 THEY FILLED THE ROOM QUITE WELL.
I NOW KNOW BIGGER IS BETTER. WAS CONSIDERING THE SATELLITE SPEAKERS.
MY BIG SCREEN WITH THE DIRECT TV SET-UP HAS GREAT DIGITAL SOUND AND YES THESE
SPEAKERS WORK JUST FINE. I THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE TO BIG SINSE THEY HAVE A 250
WATT OUTPUT. THE HUGE TWEETERS WORK GREAT AND THE BASS IS GREAT TOO. THANKS TO
THIS PRODUCT REWIEW SECTION I THOUGHT THAT IF THE LAST TEN PEOPLE RATED THESE
A FIVE OUT OF FIVE THEY MUST BE OK. WENT TO BEST BUY FOR THEM AND THEY WERE HARD
TO FIND ANYWHERE IN VIRGINIA. CAN UNDERSTAND WHY JBL SVA-1800 ONCE SOLD FOR MUCH

great bass, nice design, heavy and SOLID

rear spikes not well connected

I love these speakers. I have had them for around a year now, and they NEVER have disappointed me. I tried to rotate them and one of the rear spikes tore out, but I must admit that it's probably my fault (They were on heavy carpet.) Great product, get a pair while you can! JUST BETTER LISTENING
