Just one word : WOW !!!!
Now this is a really great speaker, you can use it as mains in a small room or as surrounds for a great h.t. system.
If you´re using them as mains be sure to add a sub ( JBL-PB12 Is great too ! ).

They are my surround speakers for my h.t.
Buy them NOW!!.

Strength:

3 way design, flat back for wall-mounting, good build quality

Weakness:

grill is flimsy

These are my surrounds in my setup:

Mains: JBL S-312's
Center: JBL S-Center
Surrounds JBL S-36's
Subwoofer: Velodyne FSR-15
Receiver: Denon 2801
DVD Player: Pioneer Elite DV-37
Monitor: Toshiba 40H80 16x9 HDTV ready

These speakers are excellent for the money. Very flat, neutral response, with no over emphasizing or highs or lows. I initially had these as my MAINS while I saved up for the S-312's. I had old kenwood surrounds, and once I had the S-312's with the S-36's in the back, I had a seamless system with perfect matching timbre.

These speakers are excellent for wall mounting, as they have the holes in the back, and are flat, so they do not take up too much room. The 3-way design ensures that you don't miss anything the director wanted you to hear. Excellent for hometheater. Highly recommended.

Strength:

Crystal clear music

Weakness:

Does not produce subwoofer frequencies

I just got these speakers so I don't know how well they hold up over time. But if they continue to sound as good as they did right out of the box then I will be in a state of bliss for all of the forseeable future. These speakers are so clear that I'm hearing things that I never knew were in my music. Granted, these speakers don't produce the extreamly low bass frequencies, but for bookshelfs they really kick in the midbass area. I never expected them to produce frequencies around 20 hz anyway. That's why I have a subwoofer.

The reason I chose these speakers over a pair of S38s was because the S36s are wall mountable, and they are much narrower. Hence, they are ideally suited to be used as high quality surround speakers, and that's exactly what I am going to use them for. Which in a way makes me sad, because they sound so good, yet I'm only going to be using them to compliment my main speakers.

Anyway, I am very happy with my purchase, and I hope my review assists you in yours.

This is an addition to my previous review just a little down the page.

If you are planning to mount the S36’s on your wall, then this may be of interest to you. The speakers have four holes on the back side made for wall mounting; however, unless you have an ideally shaped room, you might not want them flat against your wall. I found a pair of mounting brackets that are perfectly suited for the S36. They allow you to position the speaker to face most any direction, and they screw right into the threaded holes on the bottom of the speaker. They are model “53 RST UMK” made by “OmniMount Systems”. These mounts are a bit spendy. I paid $80 for them at a local Audio King. But you might be able to find them for much less on the internet.

On an installation note: Make sure you have studs to screw these into.

Awesome speakers, perfect for rears in addition to the whole JBL Studio Series! These babies looks awesome and sound even better! I never knew rears could sound so good until now. Those ambient sounds in the distance on my DVD's - I never knew they were there before! The mount very easily into the wall and lay flat against them. PERFECT SPEAKERS!!! Why are you reading this review? Go an buy them! GO!

These speakers have a clean, crisp sound. I use them as the surround speakers in my system with the S-38's in front. GREAT! That about sums it up.
