I have a pair of L80T. They are great. I listened to others. They are crisp, clear, and efficient. I'm not sure about the previous review, may have listened to music at high volumes when he was a child.

Strength:

smooth, powerful bass, crystal clear highs, midrange fills in the gaps nicely, very clean at all listening levels

Weakness:

Big, and heavy, much more bulk than todays floor speakers.

I am writing this review out of a sense of pride of how these speakers have performed over the years for me. The last review that I read gave them 1 star. What is up with that. I have owned these speakers since Nov. of 1990! This is not a typo. How can anybody call these "Big Manufacturer who just wants to make money crap" How many people have had a set of speakers for almost 10 years, and still use them, even with todays technology. You must remember when I purchased these speakers there was no such thing as Pro-logic or surround in the home. Home theater was not even a word used in the average market. These speakers were designed to reproduce Music, and that they do well. They are flawless with my 10yr old Sony CDP-8ES cd player. Throw on Pink Floyd the Wall, go to track 12 Disc 1 and crank it. If you close your eyes you would swear sombody is shattering glass in the room. Turn off the Sub, and put in Live Throwing Copper-Track 9 I.B.D, and the bass fills the room just like a sub. Untill a year ago I had them connected to my Sony STR-GX5ESII receiver, still using today. I pruchased a Sony STR-de reciever because I wanted Dolby Digital. It is not even as close to as good as my ES, but my ES is 10yrs old and does not even have pro-logic. The DE is adequate, but I am currantly in the process of replacing all my "important" components. After much research I have decided to go with the Sony STR-DB830. I was going to go with the 555ES, but the 830 sounds as good on DVD, weaker on music, but I have my old 5ES for that, which is still as good if not better than most recievers out there. The JBL's are being replaced by Difinitive Technology Pro Tower 400's up front, C2 center, and Pro Cinema 100 rears. I am keeping my Infinity BU-2 sub, it is not as powerful as the DT sub, but the sound is clean and undistorted. The JBL's and the 5ES go into the Billiards room, along with the 8ES cd player. My point is, if manufactures like Sony and JBL are big market, Junk producers, then why have these components of mine lasted 10yrs, with no repairs, and flawless operation. They have proven their worth with consistancy, and quality of workmanship. I don't know how long they will last, but I won't give them up. They have served me well, for 10 yrs of constant play, most fail after only a few short years. So to the person who rated the JBL's with one star, you need to widen you narrow view of the electronics world. Give credit where credit is due, yes they produce low end equipment as well as the high end, but that makes their products available to all the music and movie lovers of the world, in any price range. Rate the speakers on what they were designed for, and their performance - not their manufacturer. Don't knock them for not performing "up to your standards" in Home Theater.

Strength:

Good mid low priced speakers

Weakness:

large

Our copy of these speakers are way older than 1995 models, maybe 1985 ish? Okay, not up to current speakers, but I still use them with a Prologic receiver, L20t rears and a JBL center in our basement. Play rock beautifully and do okay with movies. So value rating is 4 with an overall rating of 3
