Bought my JBL ARC 1000's locally from a guy for $150. I have them paired with an older pioneer sx 950 (1976) rated at 85 WPC RMS. I listen to all different kinds of music, including rap, classic rock, dubstep, etc, through a variety of mediums including radio, vinyl and aux (my iPod). Anyways, meh these speakers were OK at first, a little dull sounding and bass heavy, until i BI-WIRED them, and then holy crap, they sounded 100x better. They are a great speaker and I definitely recommend you bi-wire them no matter what. After bi-wiring these speakers, it totally opened up the sound stage and produced a fuller, more appealing sound. If you can get these for $150, they are great for listening (all i use them for) and the guy I bought them from said they are great for main speakers of entertainment system or surround system. The only reason he got rid of them is because he needed the cash. Not to mention, rated at 175 W handling capacity, you'll be hard pressed to find an amp that could blow these, but my sx-950 sure gives them a good workout!!

Overall a great sounding speaker. In terms of value, they are one of the best. Highs and the lows are quite nice. The mids, while good, don't pop as much --- probably because the high and lows are so good. They are also pretty powerful speakers and play well in large and medium sized rooms - they have had no problems pushing the bass through a larger vaulted living room. Detail in the speakers is a 4/5, to get more you would have to spend ice as much. I would highly recommend these as an introductory pair of speakers for someone getting into music. You can find a good pair from anywhere between 100-150 without a problem (in good condition).

Build is pretty solid and heavy. The surface is actually really tough too, so no worries about damaging cheap vinyl that they usually put on speakers Again, great intro speaker, and a great value.

Strength:

Definitely a great tower speaker for the price... Music is my life and I will be holding on to these guys for a while

Weakness:

You definitely have to have a receiver that can power them or everything shuts off...

Got them bi-wired into a pioneer sx-780 tube receiver and couldn't be happier for the price i payed... Sure, I would love to have a Bose system... These JBL's are shakin' stuff downstairs and I'm not even a quarter of the way up volume wise.

Strength:

Good highs and deep bass

Weakness:

Midrange is a little muddled and bass isn't as defined as it should be

Bought these speakers from Ubid for about 80 each and I feel I got an excellent buy. The Arc 1000's are fairly clear on the highs and work well for voclas but I felt the low's could have been better defined. I listen to a lot of orchestral music and have found that instruments with deep bass get somewhat mixed together. Other than that, these speakers are great for listening to all other types of music; they also work well for home theater.

Strength:

excelent, clear bass, stong disign, very clear

Weakness:

only that its heavy

I bought a single JBL ARC1000 almost three years ago at costo for $99.99. The best speaker I have ever bought. I listen to alot of hip-hip high bass music and the 10' sub works great.it shakes my room and puts my Tenchnics, and KLH loudspeakers too shame and they have 15'woofers in them. The mid and titanium tweeter is remarkably crisp and clear. They're even bi-cable compatible which I have not yet used, but I hear they sound even better. This is a great speaker for the cost.

My system
Teac AG-V8520 Audio/Vidio dolby surround reciever
Panasonic DVD-A112 dvd player
Philips Magnavox CDC 735 cd changer
1 JBL ARC1000 loudspeaker with 10'subwoofer
2 Technics SB-LX90 loudspeakers with 15'subwoofers
2 KLH 1533A loudspeakers with 15'subwoofers
2 Pioneer S-H352F-K loudspeakers with 6.5'subwoofers
1 Sony center speakers
2 Sony rear surround speakers

For the price, these speakers are amazing. The bass is sweet, down to 36 hertz, the treble soars, thanks to the titanium tweeter, but the mids are a bit nasal, they have a 5 inch poly midrange, which, I must admit, is loud and clear. I bought them for $260 a pair. Awesome price, good sound. Definitely not audiophile equipment, but if you like the sound of $260 bucks for a pretty good sounding speaker than I recommend you give these a try!!

Not bad but I will agree that the mids don't hand the power well with 120 watts to them. Not bad though for $400 CAN. I like that they are bi-wired. They also have a small footprint.

This speaker represents the classic vented box design for dynamic drivers. It is the basic simplicity that makes it work well. Put the calculations into your speaker design software (along with the necessary microphone inputs) and you will see that it is the typical size and shape that is needed to generate the frequency range. To make 36 hertz off this type of driver requires volume at any venting (forget infinite baffle; wouldn't work), thus the large size. The box, however, could stand a little more reinforcement (like matrix speakers). It just proves that if you want dynamic range, you just need old fashion follow good old physics.

the highs and mids, the price

bass

i picked these speakers up for a very nice price and they fit in nicely with my home theatre. The highs and mids really shine when playing a dvd. I am extremely satisfied with them and I haven't even had a chance to bi-wire them yet.

These speakers are very good for the price. The treble is clear and nice
The mids are a little bit boomy
The bass is deep, down to 35-40 Hz,
I bought them for $200 (Costco) a pair. Not HiFi speakers, but I recommend you give these a try!!
