Weakness:

Size and price - though not so bad when you consider the
pricey competition from B&W.

I never bought into the 'golden ear' approach to sound
reproduction equipment. I have a formal background in electrical engineering and have been listening to JBL's since the early 80's. The 250ti's (piano black finish) I bought in the early 90's are to me the perfect speakers. They add and take away nothing from the sound. I have found myself engrossed in the music, whether listening to Steely Dan's 'Aja' or 'Haitian Divorce' or the infamous Telarc recording of Tchaikowski's 1812 Overture.
The sound is all at once gut wrenching,
subtle, and glorious. Driven by a Crown PL-1 and MA 2400
also helps. These speakers, unlike most esoteric models, beg
to be driven - just as in the JBL tradition. I compared
these units to the latest version of the B&W 801's before
buying them and found them in no way lacking. I hope JBL
continues to produce these models - a true testament to
their engineering prowess and passion for accurate music
reproduction.

I don't know what Mike is talking about, but the 250ti is not a theatre speaker with horns. This is no ordinary cheap pair of JBL box speaker sold in North America today (All the good stuff goes to Europe and Asia). This is in my opinion the best JBL home speaker that I have ever heard. I have owned a pair for about 10 years purchased used for $2000.00. My mirror image pair is made in 1985. Over the last ten years I have heard a lot of different speakers, I always find that I prefer the unlimited dynamics of this speaker, they never become congested. Voice, piano, jazz are incredible. Speaker that beat these in all respects are the Wilson Grand Slamm and MAXX, but they are 40k and up. JBL service is great, they stand behind thier products, I had the woffer cones replaced with original parts in 1997 and are like new. If you can get your hands on a used pair they still stand up well against 5,000- 10,000 speakers. Use the highest quality high current amps, the 14" woffers need control. Five Speakers for sound, and 6 speakers for value.

Weakness:

large

I truly cannot properly rate this speaker due to the fact I haven't listened to them in many years. I only remember this to be one beautiful, well made, large speaker that was the best MCAS Iwakuni Japan ever had to offer back when they catered to people with an audiophile bent! I only came to this site to ameliorate as best I can the poor rating incurred by the all knowing duud. I agree with the more lucid reviewers here. From what I can remember these speakers didn't have any weak points. They played MUSIC. What better thing can you say about a speaker.

I have been listening to a pair of these speakers for years with all different kinds of power behind them. These are truly Rock & Roll speakers.
In regards to accuracy and imaging, they will obviously lack behind the
models and brands that attempt to maximize accuracy and imaging. The one
thing that they do better than any speaker I have ever heard is move air.
In this respect, they are incredible.

Rock & Roll music is not centered around accuracy and imaging. A
speaker that is too accurate will magnify the audible frequency range so
much that you will probably dislike the way that R&R sounds. Not with these.

Strength:

When i play a record or cd the voices and dynamic is great.
with some cd i can hear if the number is recorded in 1 or more times (klicking from Microfone)

Weakness:

Very big (i like that)
Needs a very big amplifier

I can say when i whatch movies and listen to music i can hear things that i have never heard.
The dynamic is Perfect (it go's below 18hz)
The amplifier has the woofers fully under control,
First i thought that the tweeters of the jubilees where a little bit of extravagant but since i used siltech cables it is over.
Very strong in voices and dept of music.
Very strong and controlled bass.
You can believe its unbelieveble what i hear.

greetings:

martin
