I was looking for a reasonably priced speaker with above average sound. They were built in Denmark, and the build quality is outstanding.I listen to the E650s only-the sub is not needed for music. I sometimes think I should not have bought it (nice unit though!).

I was looking for a reasonably priced speaker with above average sound. While some audiophiles may not consider these top line speakers, they do have a great sound for the money. I purchased an HK AVR125 receiver and tried 3 different bookshelf speakers. I was not thrilled. I then remembered that I had bought some nice speakers at a local electronics store several years earlier. I went back to this store and discovered Jamo. They are the top selling brand in Europe, and are not well knowin in the US. They were built in Denmark, and the build quality is outstanding. They are sharp looking and sound great. The E8 series (both the E6 and E8 are no longer produced) sound even better but do cost a little more. I have heard that Jamo speakers are not the same since Klipsch bought them out-American companies are more interested in profit than a good product-just my opinion. I do not know if the latest Jamos are as good as the older ones, but if you can find E650s, you won't be disappointed. They do need about 30 hours to break in. I didn't believe the dealer at first, and actually didn't think the E650s sounded very good. Then one day they were broke in! The difference was amazing. I listen to a lot of smooth jazz, and these speakers do a nice job. I have owned them for 5 years and have no plans to replace them. I did add the center speaker, and E610 bookshelf speakers, as well as the sub to make my system complete. I mainly listen to music, so unless I am listening to DVD-Audio or SACDs, I listen to the E650s only-the sub is not needed for music. I sometimes think I should not have bought it (nice unit though!).
