Strength:

Clarity. Power.

Weakness:

Heat sink will get HOT.

The RS-8 are great speakers. I paid $189 Each + around 50 dollars in shipping. If you like a lot of bass, then get a separate sub. The sound is more than enough for me. I don't run a club. The speaker does handle pretty well.

I'm using the Yamaha RXV995 receiver and the two work out great. Sound is crisp and clear.

I seldom get excited about speakers, but the Infinity RS8 speakers are absolutely amazing! Pure crystal-clear clarity that exceeds the Angstrom Alpha 80's!The 1" neodymium soft-dome tweeter (silk covered?) produces highs that could shatter glass, the 6.5" king-throw co-injected woofer with LMT produces believable mid-range to higher-bass frequencies, and the outside-facing 100 watt powered subwoofers in each speaker really promote a total sound package that is truly envious. At a price tag of $950 Cdn (about $600 US) they are truly worth it!

It took a little while for these speakers to break in, but now they sound great. Have it matched with a cc3 and rs2's in back. Very good sounding speakers, especially for the money. A friend just picked them up at Mercata for under $300 with free shipping (lasts until April 15). Needs to be matched with a sub if you are into bass, but will do great for movies and normal music listening without a sub. Tried out similar powered Polk's, JBL's, BIC's, AR's and Klipsch. Liked the sound of the Klipsch and the Infinity series, but couldn't make up for the $1000 in price difference.

Strength:

Beautiful looking... clean sound... outstanding value

Weakness:

Bass is not crystal clear... heat sink gets *HOT*

Let me preface by saying that I am an audio enthusiast, not an expert or an audiophile. I am using this system with a Pioneer VSX-D606S receiver, which according to other reviews on this site, is slightly underpowered. However, in conjunction with this receiver, these speakers can play as loud as I want it without any noticeable distortion. These speakers have line-level inputs for the sub-woofer. Since my receiver had a line-level output for the sub, I chose to try this out. I ended up switching back to just using the speaker level outputs, as the bass response was much stronger. If you follow the 'review' links for the RS-8s, there is an excellent article (written by a professional), that basically said that he had better results with the speaker level inputs as well. Perhaps I am not adjusting my receiver correctly, but the bass sounds plenty loud with the speaker-level inputs. One thing that frustrates the hell out of me as an amateur audio enthusiast is the myriad of bass adjustments that can be made. On my receiver I have a bass/treble control as well as a subwoofer decibel level control, in addition to a bass level control on the speakers. It seems that everything I listen to has a different bass 'sweet spot'. For example, if I listen to Steely Dan, the bass sounds pretty tight. But, if I listen to something a little more on the 'techno' side, it sounds a little looser. The mid/high ranges on these speakers are outstanding. Watching movies in dolby digital can be a little ridiculous also. I was flat out embarassed at how f*ing loud some of the scenes were in 'Fight Club', at supposedly nominal volumes (at least for the dialogue). The bass seems pretty tight for the movies I have watched. These speakers are very heavy, and have a pretty large heat sink on the back, which can get pretty hot if the sub is left on for over 2 hours. I purchased them on UBID for $172 each, plus about $75 shipping for the pair. Shipping may be a little steep, but I would estimate that each speaker is at least 50-75 pounds. I think at this price, these speakers are an excellent value. They compare very favorably with a pair of high end Polks that my buddy has (he paid over $700). I think UBID is just getting rid of them because the product line has been discontinued. My overall rating is at 4 stars only because the bass is not super-tight. Thanks to everyone who contributes to this site.

Great soundstage

I had an old set of reference 5's and a Yamaha YST-SW60. Bought the Infinity's through U-Bid although not as cheap as some others. At first I wasn't sure that they were a huge step up. Like Dan from Seattle I have enough adjustments that it took a while to dial them in. I'm especially impressed by the broad sound stage much improved over my old Infinity's. Watched U-571 in DTS awesome sound great base. I have a Sony STR-DE845 amp. Sony DVP-S360 DVD. At the price you can pick these up a great set of speakers. Now all I have to do is sell my old set to help pay for them.
