Strength:

Crisp, tight highs and mids

Weakness:

bass

Here's my setup

Receiver - Onkyo TX575
Fronts - RS5
Center/Rear - JBL crap that I am dying to replace
Sub - Bad-ass Paradigm PDR12

I bought the RS5's with the intent on adding a sub. All other speakers in this price range that I heard could not come close to the highs and mids of these speakers, though the polks had a better low end. (Did not like the polks at all) The B+W bookshelfs (dont remember model#) had better highs and comparable mids, but the bass lacks on those too, and they are more expensive. The B+W's dont sound that much better to warrant spending a few hundred more dollars, and the Polks seem to color the sound across the whole spectrum.(Got the RS5's for $388 @ shop4.com). Footprint of RS5's is small, so it works pretty well in tight places. Without sub, the speakers sound tight and clean, but shy on bass. Add the Paragdigm PDR 12 and you got a thumpin system that rocks in 2 channel stereo and H.T. modes. (I loathe 5 channel stereo so I have nothing to report on that)I'm looking to add the CC3 center and possibly the Paradigm Atoms for surrounds. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I gave these speakers a 5 on value because for $388.00 you really cant go wrong.

I gave the RS5 a 4 in overall rating beacuse the bass is a little thin. As stated, I knew I was going to have a sub with these, so I chose the speaker for it's awesome highs, but as standalones, they deserve a 4 out of 5.

Peace.

Strength:

overall sound is very clear, great speakers for home theater use,

Weakness:

none, except for the bass some would say ,but if you were looking for big bass and were not planning on purchasing a sub I dont think you would be looking at these anyway.

The similar products I have used really are not that similar to the rs5 but oh well. The fact is these speakers kick ass. Bass is a little lacking but what do you expect from such a tight little speaker? If your looking for monster bass go buy a sub or a floor standing speaker with twelve inch woofers, these speakers are well known for their nice mids and highs. Although I really dont think that the bass is all that bad for what it is coming out of. I'm using these speakers more for home theater and a sub is on the way so my house will be shaking soon but these rs5's do the job nearly flawlessly. However I think I am getting a little more bass from my rears which are bose 301's which also serve their purpose very well, I must say I was surprised at how well they matched. Go demo these speakers at circuit city. You will like!! Where you purchase them may be a different story but they dont know that! Dont expect alot of bass and you won't be disappointed, but dont think that they can't dole out any . I have mine about four feet away from my wall and the ports have enough room to breathe out some pretty good amounts of bass in my opinion. STOP READING AND GO DEMOOOO!!!!! I did buy mine at circuit city so I paid extra $$$ however they were on sale and I also got a TEN YEAR WARRANTY from them on anything that I may damage. Can't get that on the internet,,,,yet.

Just one question. Wheres the low end???
Why spend $500.00,then have to spend another $500.00 on a subwoofer? Everybody always rave over Infinity, why?? They have no bass until you get up into the $1200.00 doller range.(RS-10) I say spend your money more wisely!!

Strength:

Great overall speaker for a good price. Perfect for front channels!

Weakness:

Bass is lacking a little. Just add subwoofer.

I had my eyes on this set of speakers for a while until about 6 months ago I when i purchased a pair of these babies. Running these Infinity RS-5 through my Sony 30ES receiver sounds great! These speakers offered eveything that I was looking for in a set of mains at the right price. They sound great alone, but if you add a subwoofer you can make for their slight lack of bass. When I was auditioning speakers it came down to the RS-5s and a very similar Polk tower speaker. I actually liked the Polks just a little better because they seemed to be slightly clearer while the Infinitys were a little more harsh and produced a 'warmer' sound. But when it came down to it, the two sets were so similar that I decided to go with the Infinitys because of value. I've been happy ever since.

Strength:

The highs were present. The bass sound was ok, still need a subwoofer.

Weakness:

These speakers cannot stand up to the big boys!Distortion was very prominent, poor quality on the drivers!!

Using onkyo-thx a/v receiver,90 watts, could not get past reference volume levels, without blowing up the speakers!!
Twice I let this happen, and that was enough for me.
Tried def-techs, which sounded superb, but did not like the build quality of speakers, which are foam, for the price I expected better.
Finally settled on kirksaeter prisma 300 speakers.Quality built, with rubber around speakers. They sound terrific,I can now go beyond reference volume levels comfortably.
Biwirable and outstanding bass.Thank you very much.

Strength:

good crisp and accurate sound. good high mid and low. excellent sound for the money.

Weakness:

none that i can think of

i listened to a lot of other speakers and for the sound you get for the money you can't beat them. my brother and i compared these speakers with his paradigm and even my brother was amazed at how good these speakers sounded. my friend has mirrage speakers and they don't compare to the accuracy that these speakers have. i had pioneer, sony and cerwin vega speakers and by far i like these my rs5 the best. I use these speakers for music and home theater and they perform well. i use these speakers with a infinity c3 center speaker along with infinity rs1 speakers for my surrounds. i had a jbl 12" sub but now have an acoustic research 12". i am running everything with an onkyo 747 receiver and onkyo dvd player. i am very pleased with the way everything sounds.

Strength:

Good balance between bass, midrange and treble.
Look nice, convenient size - don't need stands.
Come with carpet spikes or round feet.
Plenty of power handling, good bass response to about 42Hz

Weakness:

Harder to get/more expensive now that they're not made any more.

I like these speakers so much that I bought a second pair to use at work. These are good all-round speakers and especially good for the price. You definately don't need a subwoofer to listen to these speakers at a level which accurately represents the sound, unless the music that you're listening to has mega-bass. These speakers can and will make the room shake if you decide to put that much bass or sheer volume through them. I have them hooked up to a Harman-Kardon AVR7000 and it provides great sound for music and DVDs. The matching centre and surround speakers from Infinity (I think CC2 and RS2) round these out to make a great set for about $700. (at least, when they were still made).

Strength:

clear, powerful, detailed sound

Weakness:

cheap grille and feet

After reading many reviews on these and similar products, and considering the good price, I decided to go with RS series all around. I use them for both theater and music.

This is my first good set of speakers that I have owned. The mids and highs sound quite good with these speakers. Bass is also good, though I noticed a huge difference with the addition of a subwoofer (read down a couple reviews). My reciever passes the lows to the sub for 2-channel music, as well as using the channel with 5.1 sources. This adds the extra kick to the system that really makes me happy with it. The speakers can handle plenty of power without any noticable distortion, so long as the reciever is willing to cough it up.

Everyone gripes about the grilles, they are a bit cheap looking. I thought I should also mention the feet. The first time I attached one of the carpet spikes I overtightened it and pulled out the connector. They need only to be slightly snug. I also got shipped with a defective spike that had no threads, but within 2 days i got replacements from crutchfield.

Got the pair for $400 at crutchfield just before they ran out. Overall recommend these for decent sound quality and price, if you can still find any for sale.

Strength:

in 4 words-clean,powerful,detailed sound.

Weakness:

no weakness yet!

these are my first infinitys speakers ever, and i have to say "WOW"! for the size and sound of these speakers, they just flat out rock. the highs are nice and detailed, the midrange is good and the base is very under rated on some of the reviews here, i have an older pair of pioneers with 15's in them, and the little infinitys with the 6 and 1/2 inchers just put them to shame.

I use these speakers for music and movies, they seem to handle any kind of music i throw at them witch is a + in my
book. I have the RS-5's and the CC-3 center channel up front, i was going to get the RS-3's for the surrounds
but i liked the RS-5's so much i said what the hell.
so now i've got RS-5's in the front and rear...

i don't know what is better the price, or the sound of these
speakers? if you can sill find them, check'em out
you may just like them....or love them.
