Strength:

Transparent three dimensional sound. Deep and accurate bass response

Weakness:

None.

Best sounding speakers I have heard. Emim mid's are awesome. It's a shame that Infinity doesn't make them any longer.

Strength:

Everything. Detail, Imaging, Clarity, etc.

Weakness:

none

My parents own a pair of these absolutely wonderful speakers. They bought them in 1994 and kept them in a good shape. I listen to them several times a month whenever I visit them.

Simply wonderful speakers! I guess they require strong amp, but that's not really much of a problem. If you can afford these speakers, you should be able to afford a high quality amp to drive these speakers.

The most recent music I heard on these speakers are the ones from Diana Krall's When I Look in your eyes. The recording just came to life!

The Renaissance 90s are simply awesome. It's too bad that Infinity are no longer making anything with EMIT drivers.

Now I knew how fantastic speakers Infinity has produced, but Renaissance 90 was still a marwellous surprise for me. Even though it is a 4-way speaker, it is a very balanced and controlled speaker. I have listened to it bi-wired with a hefty Pioneer power amplifier, and the sound is more than satisfactory. Very very easy to recommend, especially if you appreciate solid bass performance.

Strength:

Hell, look at all of the reviews below! Couldn't have said it better myself!

Weakness:

Some of the stuff below seems right. Don't know if they need as much power as everybody says. I don't think they're as finicky as everybody says about where you put them, either.

Well I am not even going to try to add to all of this stuff. I love these speakers and I have been happy with them these past six years. I replaced an older pair of Maggies with them and didn't miss them for a moment. Over the years, I have brought home new speakers (see above) and tried them with my system (see below) but have not liked what I heard enough to replace the Renaissance 90s. If you are in the market for new speakers and you don't mind owning used stuff, you should probably seek them out (if you can find them). Especially if you want to hear music as you have not heard it before.

Strength:

Clarity, bass extension and sound real

Weakness:

don't know

There is nothing I can comment about this speakers; what I would like to tell already been said. I drive them with a Krell Ksa150 direct from the CD player(Adcom)output. After these few months of daily listening, I discovered that something was missing in them, it was human fagitueness. Many speakers with very good midrange performance causes human fagitue after prolong listening.

Great speakers, no longer in production. Originally retailed for $3800.00. Picked up demos several years ago for less than half. Wonderful sound and beautifully constructed. The mid-bass driver which is lacking in the Renaissance 80 makes all the difference. Also the 90 has the high end emim midrange not used in the 80. If you're lucky enough to find a used pair, be sure and listen to them as you would have to spend big bucks to get the quality of sound in new speakers.

Strength:

Excellent sound!!, great looks (piano black), build quality

Weakness:

Large, requires lots of clean power, need lot of space, hard to place right

SYSTEM
Amplifier: Krell KAV-300i
Source: Pioneer DV-717

If you get everything right, these are among the best speakers imaginable. I use my Renaissance 90 for audio but also as a part of my home theater and it works great! The reviews below say it all...

Strength:

great overall. deep clean bass. great mids and highs.

Weakness:

As new they are (were) expensive @$3800 US. heavy. 4OHM.

I spent a lot of time and effort to find these speakers, taking home and testing the above captioned models. they were trade ins and in perfect condition. for $1500US you can't get a better speaker. The new price however may be too much. they do have great high and mid ranges with good bass response. Any music played sounds very spacious and clean. They also require a lot of power though at 4 OHMS.

Strength:

Detailed and highly transparent and able to present a truly 3D sound stage given the right environment.

Weakness:

Difficult load to drive and hence amplification must be of the highest order.

I purchased these speakers following a listening session in a high end store 7 years ago. It was simple, I was immediately addicted and had to have them. With the right amplification these speakers can deliver a level of sonic detail and scale normally associated with a price upwards of $10k US. Unfortunately most owners will never know how good they are because of amplifier dependency. Tips for those considering a 2nd hand purchase : avoid under- dimensioned bi polar amplifier designs. The most immediate symptom will be an overly etched and bright fatiguing treble which is due to the high current demand at hf. MosFets deal with this far better although there isn't enough space here to give the technical explanation. In my own configuration I am using a high pwr, high nfb bi polar design for the woofers and a high pwr low nfb MosFet design for mf/hf. This definitely works best by a country mile and delivers the sweetest most pristine treble imaginable along with a magnificent rock solid bass. The speakers really suck power and I would recommend 400w into 4ohms an absolute minimum if you want to be able to recreate live sounds close to scale. The main weaknesses of the R90s would be a) the bass roll off is very fast below 30Hz meaning you will never get earth shattering bass and b) the low mid driver although very good seems to lag behind the high mid panel which can make the upper mids a tad forward on some material. Experiments with placement are very necessary to get the best overall balance and transition between lm/hm. I definitely recommend a minimum of 3ft (1m) from side walls and 2ft (60cm) from the rear wall for best results. If you can achieve more than 3ft from a side wall then all the better and you will start to hear holographic imaging. Point the speakers pretty much straight down the room and of course sit exactly in the middle and around 12ft (3-4m) away. The sweet spot is very narrow so this is definitely a one listener speaker. Don't worry though because with all the listening you'll be doing the wife and kids will leave you anyway.
