Strength:

Good sound bass through highs. They have a good flat, high fidelity sound. I think the Maple looks good but I guess that depends on the other furniture in your room.

Weakness:

Took a little time to adjust with the RABOS in order to get the good sound. Positioning the speakers properly is also key.

I notice people either love or hate these speakers. I think they are a good value for $500. The RABOS system is a must & I wonder if some of the people who aren't getting good sound don't have the RABOS system. As far as quality LEXUS, BMW, MERCEDES and JAGUAR have service centers because they break down. This doesn't mean they are overall poor quality products. I think they are overall one of the best sounding speakers for what I paid.

Strength:

Excellent Transparency Clean bass with power to spare Very good stage presence Crisp but not piercing highs

Weakness:

The RABOS kit is an additional purchase

Having recently upgraded my sources to a Denon DVD-2900/AVR-3803 combo, I have am more convinced than ever that these are extremely good speakers for the money. There are two keys to enjoying the transparent sound this speakers can deliver - good source equipment, and a willingness to spend the time to get them setup properly. As someone mentioned earlier, the RABOS kit is indispensable for most of us. Not only does the kit help you get the parametric equalizer settings correct (this can't be done manually without a LOT of experimentaiton or other test equipment), but it also helps you get the volume correctly set and the speakers located properly. Without taking the time to do all of these, the speakers are handicapped. Why spend the money if you aren't willing to take the time to set them up. Frankly, I can't see how most folks without high-end test equipment could properly set up the IL-50's without the RABAOS kit.

Strength:

so many!!

Weakness:

extremely heavy speakers to carry upstairs, make sure to get help.

The infinity Il50's are awesome! They sound great with music and movies. I'm so impressed with infinity and their amplifiers to give the amount of power they give, I'm looking into their powered intermezzo 3.5c ,center channel. Whoever talks bad about these speakers know nothing about sound.

Strength:

Great sound, tight bass. Clear consise vocals. Great sound for the money you can pick these up for.

Weakness:

Plastic front feet. Looks aren't the greatest.

When I read the negative reviews on these speakers I wonder why these people didn't read the positive reviews on what to do once they purchased. You need a good audio source, you really need to adjust the pots at the back of the speaker and the thumb wheel in front to control the bass and tweak the frequency response. My set sounds beautiful with perfect not boomy bass. I would suggest these speakers to anyone who will put the time in to properly set them up!!! I've owned them for over a year and no amp or power supply problems. I took advice from the reviewer who suggested leaving them on all the time.

Strength:

Nothing that comes across my mind

Weakness:

Too many attributes to list. Where would I start.

I bought these on epay a couple months back. I have been doing some research on speakers and previously owned some Infinity speakers. I thought they were average speakers and my budget was not very much. I looked around and saw these pair on ebay for very cheap. I figured that since they were originally $1700 I would get them for a song. Well, even paying $200 a pair for these speakers are way too much. My old Infinity speakers would run circles around these things. These are not very good speakers. They do impress my friends with the boom on the low end, but it gets irritating to listen to b/c it is too overpowering. The plastic trim pieces rattle too. Not much in terms of quality here. They are very oddly shaped and hideous to look at. I try to hide them in the corners, because my friends make fun of me b/c of my alien looking speakers. They look like they are from outerspace. Never am I going to buy Infinity products again. Stay away from these.

Strength:

NONE whatsoever

Weakness:

Quality- poor Sound- poor Looks- ok bass- too much mids- poor highs- poor Plastic breaks too easliy. Rattles a lot too

JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK. I have had problems with these speakers from day 1. The cheap plastic peices keep rattling and breaking off. I have replaced the amp in the left speaker cabinet twice under warranty, because of poor quality. These speakers are horrible. I have been trying to return these for a partial refund, but since they are over a year old, I can't. Buyer beware on these speakers. These are terrible. Worst speakers I have ever owned or heard. When they do work, they sound like crap. Too much bass...not enough mid and high. Do not buy these speakers...unless you want problems now and later. These are horrific speakers and belong at Walmart or Kmart shelves.

Strength:

Good flexibility. Great background bass and superb harmonics (if properly tuned)

Weakness:

Not for everyone - you have to play with them a little. A higher end amp makes a huge difference

I can't believe anyone could bad mouth these speakers! Great highs, and a good rumbling bass. Amp is everything with these speakers. I drive mine with a Harmon/Kardon AVR 7000 and many people say it's some of the best sound they have heard. Centre channel is handled by an IL36 and the rears are my 2001 Mission bookshelfs. I picked up a 150 watt Infinity sub to round out the ultra low end bass. A good tip is to adjust the subs seperately if you find the low end too boomy (one of mine is in a corner). These speakers need a little more attention to adjust to the acoustics of the room, but the half hour or so you spend playing with them totally pays off. I can crank the amp to max or keep itreally low and you don't lose any sound quality at all. I once played some BB King for some of my House/Techno friends and they were almost moved to tears.

Strength:

Excellent image, bass response, and clarity in a mid-range speaker system. RABOS bass equalization, and good looks.

Weakness:

small, hard-to-see sub level adjustment on front, and misleading instructions for selection of the low-pass filter. (If you are using the speaker level input, TURN IT ON or use the RABOS kit)

After reading most of the reviews on this site, I am appalled at the low ratings these speakers have been getting. I have owned several Infinity products, a pair of B&W 602's and some Polk RT 800i towers and the IL50 is by far and away the best overall sound of any of them. When I purchased these, I auditioned Monitor audio, Klipsch, Mission, and Polk, as well as the new Infinity Alpha series. These speakers are clean, crisp, have plenty of bass response, and present a vibrant and dynamic image. They are smoother than some, and one may want to remove the grilles or tweak the treble a bit to taste, but overall they are far better than the similar competition. As for those that hook them up and say the sound 'crappy', I suspect you are using inferior electrongs, don't have the low-pass filter turned on, don't have the speakers in phase, or are in general not used to hearing systems that reproduce detail. What makes a speaker sound "good" is mostly in one's head anyhow, and to mine these sound great. I don't think they do as well with purely electronic music as some, and I don't think they have the kind of tweeter that some kinds of rock would demand (kind that makes you almost wince in pain, which can be good). Check them out, but be really careful of buying them used. It is easy to get a damaged or abused speaker. If you are interested in these, I would suggest purchasing them from the Harman audio outlet on Ebay. Good prices, cheap shipping.
