Strength:

I felt it's a very nice looking tower, with out of the box great sound: crisp acurate highs, detailed mids, and good low response.

Weakness:

none as of yet!(too soon)

did several weeks of shopping , side by side comparison, and internet research. I feel that these are the absolute best sounding speakers I've listened to of the $500 to $1000 range and even listened to the high end "Canton,Jmlab, mirage, mission, snell, but i cant swallow the $2000 for the same sound quality speaker I feel I got with these IL40's.
Now I chose the IL40's because I want a SEPARATE sub to handle the deep lows. ( or I would have chose the IL50's w/built in sub) hence the .1 in 5.1 surround.
Get the IL50's for great bass without a separate sub.
I have read reviews that these speakers need breaking in, I feel that this is not my case .
Now This is only my intitial review , and only have them home for a few days . I will update my review in months to come.
currently have: H/K avr 520
IL40's
Monster cable connections

plan to buy: H/K DVD50
IL36 center
IL10 surrounds
IL100 sub
This is all how I feel they sound to me with my equipment and room config.
I listened to them with onkyo's 797 and they didnt sound as good with the H/K avr520 to me.
I feel that they dont sound great on all recievers, but I love the way they sound on mine.
Do your homework!

Strength:

excellent highs and mid range response

Weakness:

not the best bass response, it absolutely has to have a sub with it. some may think it is too bright

This is an awesome speaker to say the least IF you play them with a sub because of their lack of any decent amount of bass. They have the extremely accurate mids and highs and you'll be hard pressed to find a pair of speakers under a grand that will be cleaner than these. just add the sub and you're in audio heaven.

Strength:

What you are seeing and hearing in this speaker is the same material on Harman's high end Intermezzo and Prelude. The speaker sounds great on music and movie. Harman R & D really did their job on IL40. You are getting your money's worth on this speaker. The CMMD can withstand all kinds of weather. What more can you ask, you have the durability, nice looking and great sounding speakers built by reputable company. Stop, look and listen and you are getting a great speakers without investing thousands of dollar.

Weakness:

Dollar for Dollar you cannot beat these speakers. As far as weaknesses-NONE.

When are looking for exellent speakers that will satisty you listening appetite, I highly recommend IL40. Way to go Harman Kardon.

Strength:

Natural sound

Weakness:

size

The Infinity speakers defintely need breaking in. When I first brought the set home (including IL36 for center, IL10's for rear and IL120 for sub and Denon 3802), I was wondering what purchase did I make. The set sounded very harsh, nothing like the home theatre set-up at the store or my family room stereo set-up (Luxman and Polk SDA towers) and I was not an Infinity fan from test experiences in the mid 80's.

However, after a couple of months, the set sounds fantastic. These speakers, probably due to the Ceramic cones, need at least 50 hours of time before they begin to sound good. More time and they just sound even better and natural.

Give them time and you'll be very pleased.

Strength:

good clarity, just right amount of bass. Like the look of the design also.

Weakness:

fragile looking grill

I went around town listening to speakers that cost between $500 ~ $1000. Went through Bose, Energy, Gemno, Boston, and Polk. Was not very impressed with any of them. Don't give me wrong, they all sounded half way decent. But for the money, I was expecting a little more out of them. This all changed after I listened to Infinity's IL-40 (it turns out Infinity is the last speaker I listened to). The sound of IL-40 is just what I was looking for. Clear sound, but not too bright to hurt my ear. Bass is just the right amount, not too much, not too little. In fact I like IL-40 better than IL-50 since IL-50 had the intergrated sub-woofer that I think screw the whole sound up. Anyhow, to me, how a speaker sound is very subjective. It really depends what one is looking for in speakers. I definately think IL-40 is a very good fit for me.

Strength:

Great midrange and highs. I'm really into vocals - my favorites Aaron Neville, Tori Amos, & Jewel sound fantastic on the IL40s.

Weakness:

They have a little better bass than I was expecting from an 8" cone speaker but I need more bass. Looks like I'll have to get a subwofer soon.

I was looking for a mail order deal on these puppies for a few months. (I refuse to pay retail for HiFi). Mike at www.acousticsounddesign.com set me up with a great deal. I've only had the speakers for a little while but I'm very happy so far. They sound and look great.

Strength:

Downrightbottom lows, excellent highmids, highs, and bass

Weakness:

Mids are just falling out ~100 - 1000

These pups sound great but just as a rock speaker and
if you plan to listen to female vocals only. Weakness @
100-1000 hz is just killing male voices any dialog
will be waterlogged. I switched to il10 all around with
il100 sub - great setup. il10 falls off ~ 50hz thats where
subs take up the music. il10s seems to be the best balanced
speaker out there for 500-1000$ out there(that is 750-1400 Cdn)
Funny il36 center sounds just awful and ~2.5x price of
il25 go figure... so:

Harman Kardon 100 x 1
il10 x 4
il25 x 1
il100 x 1
panasonc DvD x 1

AGAIN, please check il10 + il25 + il100 for 5.1 setup, they are most outstanding speaker I have ever heard in years...
that is for specified price range... That would be great for any music!

Does anyone know of an authorized dealer of Infinity speakers, either on the Internet or through mail order, that will charge less than retail price? I want to buy these speakers, but don't want to pay the $1000 charged by Circuit City or Crutchfield. Neither do I want to buy from sounddistributors.com or world-exchange.com, where I would not have the manufacturer's warranty.

Thanks. Please respond to sd502@hotmail.com.

Strength:

Great Cabinets, chose of colored grilles, tight bass, simply awsome!!!

Weakness:

Needs a good week 24/7 burnin time, to losen them up!!!

These speakers sold themsleves, great looking and even better sounding.

This for me was a major upgrade from Pioneer speakers with Earthquake car woofers-mids-and Tweeters. Absouluty awsome difference in sound stage and overall sound quality. Very good timbre and not to boomy bass. I really only like alot of bass whne watching a moview and then I turn on the sub.

I really like that you can get different grille covers for them as well. Heck even my wife really like them as far a fit finish and elegance in the living room, Now I need componets that come in a Maple finish. I don't think so.

As far as the burnin time goes I left Santana's spirtual CD, playing for 6 days when I went on vaction to Cuba. I also had to burnin new monster cable M-series MCX 1S biwire. These cables are nice but I honesetly didn't hear to much of a differences in bi-wiring them instead of standard.

I run these speakers off of a Pioneers VSXD-509S dolby digital reciever and then sound simply great now it is time to upgraded my reciever.

The speakers I thought could have cost a little less for what you get. I paid $1300 Canadain which is about $700 US.
So for this I give it a 4 on value, but a 5 on overall rating.
