Strength:

Clarity, size, cost.

Weakness:

NONE

The IL10''s make excellent surround companions to my IL40 fronts and IL36c center... and powered sub. I''m really impressed by the full sound from the relatively compact size. Great dynamic range and clarity. The infinity system complements my home theatre system powered by a Yamaha RX amp. These are the first set of infinity speakers that I owned, and I''m very impressed with the quality and sound! I recommend purchasing all ''IL'' series for a complete surround package... Infinity did a great job sound matching the entire system. However, I was not impressed with the IL50''s due to the lack of adequate midrange. I recommend the IL40''s and purchasing 1 or 2 powered subs separately. It''s also a very good idea to keep the sub outside of the main speakers to achieve better clarity.

Strength:

conservative, yet sharp design above average sound quality

Weakness:

heavy

Not a bad set for the price i paid. I also have a reference model center which i actually paid more for than these suckers. combined they produce a nice soundstage. i have to agree with many reviewers about the lack in the high frequencies but i don''t think i could find a better set for the price. I would recommend them to people buying a home theater for the first time.

Strength:

Still thinking about it...

Weakness:

Lack resolution and coherence. Rear firing port. Low quality crossover used.

I decided to try a pair of these out of curiosity, as I wanted to experience what The Harmon Group had done to Infinity, especially after considering what happened to JBL''s home speaker line. As I had suspected, Harmon decided to cut costs and corners and seek to build a speaker that would appeal to the mainsteam listener who shops at Circuit City or Best Buy. Crisp highs and forward midbass, the latter being a common characteristic of metal cones. The speaker is put together in Mexico from tweeters and woofers made in France by Audax--another Harmon company. Mid grade parts at best. The poor quality of the crossover compromises the sound quality. They could have used better capacitors at a minimal cost difference. The sound came across as slightly harsh to my ears, especially in the high range. Unimpressive transient response and disappointing detail considering that this is an Infinity. C.M.M.D.? It might-as-well be ABCD. There has been a trend lately to put important sounding names on speaker parts that really don''t mean a whole hell of alot. It is part of the marketing srategy. Anyway, the woofer is a typical mid grade Audax with a metal cone and a small voice coil. A $38.00 Vifa woofer from Parts Express will sound just as good or better. I recommend upgrading the crossover first on these. Another sour point is that they chose to put the port in the rear of the speaker. These are bookshelf speakers, the type used where space is at a premium. These need to be out from a wall for best bass response. Front porting improves verstility, as is used on the JBL Studio Series. In essence, I feel that the IL 10 is lacking in fundamental ways that diminish the Infinity name. I blame Harmon and their design philosophy. The engineers are probably doing the best that they can with what they are allowed. I think that the JBL Studio Series sound better, particularly the three-way systems. Some may disagree, but the nice thing is is that there is something out there for everyone to enjoy. I have been exploring the possibilities for over twenty years as a hobbyist, and it is my experienced ear that tells me that you can do better than the IL10. If you want paint, you should go to a paint store. Likewise if you want to find good speakers. At least go to the Parts Express website and request a catalog and see what the possibilities are. Its educational!

Strength:

Strong Build.

Weakness:

Wish I could get a black grill, but the silver is cool

I just got these babies from for $260. At that price I don''t think you can even come close the beating it. Even at $400 for the pair they are a great value. The IL10''s are a lot cleaner than the polk bookshelves and have much better highs. The only speaker I''ve heard that might beat these is the price range is the B&W DCM303. Overall I have no complaints on these. My System Denon 1801 Infinity IL10 (main) Infinity OWS-1 (rear) BIC CLR63 (center, unbelievable for the $) Polk PSW 350 (sub) Panasonic RP56 Progressive Scan DVD Denon 307 CD Player X-Box

Strength:

Accuracy and tonal quality.

Weakness:

Not as involving as some other speakers, but for $400 what do you want.

These IL10s make for very good speakers when one considers what bracket of the heirarchy they reside in. They are certainly not "high-end" as the reviewer below boasted. Nor are Polks or Missions, not by a longshot. What kind of supposed audiophile blurts blasphemies like that. High-end Infinities would be their signature Preludes.
Anyways, about the Interludes. They have a rich, full sound when driven by a good amp, because they don't have many colorations and so mediocre amps will sound... well, just that, mediocre. They are bi-wireable and can handle 150 watts RMS, which ought to tell you these aren't your typical Circuit City speakers. It therefore doesn't do justice running these off the H/Ks they have set up in the store, although I do admit the H/K avr7000 can drive many other speakers fairly well. Try Marantz monoblocks or an Audiosource AmpTwo or 1970s Pioneer sx-Series receivers and you will be blown away by how good these speakers sound. Clear midrange and smooth top end, with strong bass down to around 50Hz. The bass that is there is of quality too, not muddy or bloated. A sub would help, but it has to be plenty fast so as not to ruin the IL10s' musicality. Boston Acoustics' pv600 would work well with the Interludes, although it alone costs slightly more than the pair of Infinities.
In short, the IL10 is a great speaker that's worthy of the praise it receives on this board. Way to go Infinity.

Strength:

Vocals to die for, Smooth natural sound, great bass response.

Weakness:

NONE.

I can't begin to tell you guys the phenomenal sound that comes from these speakers. They are currently mated to my Onkyo TXDS-555 with monster cable. Take it from me: Listen to a simple vocal track on ANY other speaker that a working man can afford, and then listen to it on an IL-10 Bookshelf or IL-40 tower speaker, and prepare to be blown away. If you go to Circuit City, keep in mind that It will sound even better once it is run through monster cable. Amazing. No substitute. Bose lovers, eat it.

Strength:

Everything

Weakness:

Not a single one

I purchased these speakers after doing many hours of listening at many stores. I found that these speakers blew away the polks, bose, kliscp, and any other speaker in the store when I listened to them. Even if you were to pay the msrp for these speakers you would still be getting a steal and would probably never have to buy another speaker again. The only speaker that I heard that is in a working mans budget that was better is the IL40, and only because it is a 3way speaker. Bottom line, don't hesitate, go buy them today!

Recommend great setup
2 IL10 for front speakers
2 IL10 for rear speakers
1 IL25c for center
1 IL100s powered subwoofer
Check the reviews on these items, buy them, and you will have the perfect surround/music setup for the $buck$

Strength:

Clean,uncluttered sound; great detail,excellent design

Weakness:

Not a lot of "punch"; otherwise, nothing

When I first heard these, I wasn't sure if they were for me. They are somewhat understated, since the design of the cones eliminates most of the peaks I was accustomed to. Many manufacturers seem to use these peaks in the upper bass region to give you that powerful, punchy sound that makes you say "Wow" in a showroom. But that is not what I would call truly accurate. These are just the opposite, with little artificial color. When I listen to some of my favorite discs, I hear details in the music that were covered up by my old Polks and Infinity bookshelves. As far as I'm concerned, hearing the music as it was recorded is the whole idea of this hobby in the first place. Also, I like the design of the sloping baffle, which helps tame reflections from the cabinet itself. All the Interludes have bi-wire capability, with gold plated binding posts. Bought these at my local Circuit City, and probably listened to every bookshelf they had; these sound the most natural to my ears.

Strength:

Looks great. Perfect Highs. Price.

Weakness:

Wouldnt mind having a mid driver, but these still sound incredible.

Well I had a bose setup for a long time. I was young and believed everything I was told so thats how I ended up with my Bose setup.

Now I have sold that and am getting my Infinity setup going. I got these for rear speakers, but after listening to these they could even qualify for a good pair of front speakers.

I was first worried as there was no mid driver, but after pumping these up my fear was quickly alleviated. I couldnt believe the ultra-sharp highs and solid bass coming out of these! These themselves made my now-sold Bose 501 Towers run for cover. I am definately impressed and hats off to Infinity for a great product. I have it teamed with the IL40 towers and IL36C center channel for some incredible sound. My current sub (Yamaha dual powered) blended perfectly with it after some adjustment alleviating my other worry that the sound stage between the two different product lines from different companies wouldnt blend well.

Bottom line is if your looking to build an entire high quality setup or are just looking for a great pair of speakers for your bedroom, then get these. You wont be disappointed!

Strength:

Uncolored sound, great bass for such a small driver, crystal clear, holds together wonderfully when driven heavily, beautiful to behold

These speakers are almost too good to be true.

I have had them for 3 months in a music only setup and they have thrilled me ever since I got them. The first month I played them alone with an Onkyo 777 receiver and was tickled pink. Great CD's such as Steely Dan's "Two Against Nature" and the Sony/Columbia Legacy reissue of Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" reveal just how true these speakers are. Great soundstage, very linear response, true to whatever instrument or genre they're asked to render. It's almost like these speakers just disappear and sweep you away with their renderings. They are subtle when asked to be, staunchly powerful when they need to be without an inkling of driver induced distortion or breakup. And the bass from these 6 1/2 mid bass drivers is tight, really tight, with excellent extension down to their rated 56Hz.

The second month I happened upon a deal I couldn't refuse for 2 Yamaha YST-SW160 subwoofers (another great speaker value). I set the IL-10's atop the SW160's and have got some giant sound. Had I not had the Yamaha Sub opportunity, I would not have augmented the IL10's. For all but the lowest musical bass, the IL10 is champion to the task.

These speakers are 5 star. Got to be one of the best bookshelf speakers available. I hate using "bookshelf" because the sound the IL10's produce is so big, lifelike and uncannily true that "bookshelf" is definitely not the right term. These are a MUST LISTEN!
