Strength:

Sound Quality , Build Quality, Features and Price

Weakness:

None for the Price

Absolutely Fantastic sounding speakers. They sound as good as speakers 10x their price. I Bi-wired them and it is incredible. The Entire purchasing process was great !! Excellent Communication and Delivery. You will not be disappointed with these speakers. I bought these speakers based on it's technical specs and price , I figured if they were poor , I will just write off the cost and be done with it, but once again the proof is out there that you do not need to spend thousands of dollars to get good stuff. Technolgy and the free market allows for better products at cheaper prices and that is exactly what Fluance has achieved !! A job well done..so go ahead and make your day !!

Strength:

Full, rich sound. Amazing for Home Theater. Price, Price... and did I mention the price!? P.S. - If you have any other questions – call 1(800) 223-2940 to speak to a very knowledgeable (as well as polite and helpful) Ebay Fluance reseller.

Weakness:

Leaves something to be desired for music listening. Sub is a necessity for music listening.

These speakers are AMAZING with home theater! They produce startlingly rich and clear sound even at fairly high decibel levels. They can fill a large room with no effort whatsoever. I'm not going to say that the SM938 towers can compete with Bose 701s or mid-end Polks as some reviewers have stated, but I will say that these speakers perform much better than their price class would indicate. They should run at least $600+. For all you skeptics - here is the reason the speakers are so very, very inexpensive: 1. They are constructed in Asia, therefore Fluance can use better-quality components to build these speakers. Components of comparable quality would cost far more in other regions. 2. Labor is also substantially cheaper in Asia. Therefore a large chunk of their profit is not allocated to labor compensation. 3. Fluance sells direct – there is no middleman. No wholesalers or liquidators. You buy them directly from the manufacturer and sole supplemental expense is the shipping fee. 4. Lastly (and perhaps most significantly) - Fluance spends precious little (if anything) on advertising. If Sony bought Fluance (knock on wood) then they would most likely sell them for $700+. And that would still be inexpensive due to the first two factors listed above. For music listening, these speakers are also respectable. They are less impressive with music reproduction than Home Theater however. They produce an audible hiss (due in large part to the source CD, but regardless it is more present with these speakers than some others) and the vocals and low signals can be muddied at some points. However, music is definitely listenable and for the price, these speakers yield the best music reproduction one can possibly get. If you plan on using these speakers primarily for music listening then a subwoofer is essential. While the bass is definitely present, it is not sufficient for songs wrought with low tones. However, for home theater, the 10’’ side-firing subwoofer produces the low tones in movies admirably. But if you are a bass hound (as am I), then the built-in woofer is inadequate. Overall, the quality of these speakers (including the aesthetics) is astounding. But the focus should be the price. If these speakers retailed for 7 or 8 hundred dollars, then I would recommend other brands. But for less than $300, these speakers cannot possibly be beaten! Leave your skepticism behind and give these a shot – they will definitely stun you!

Strength:

Price !!!!! This is a probably one of the best value's you can get in speakers !!! Great imagining/soundstage. Good connectors. Free banana plugs !! (With mine anyway)

Weakness:

A little bit bright sounding. Cabinets could use better bracing, also to keep the prices reasonable Fluance had to cut some corners on the cabinet finish.

I actually purchased the Fluance SV-10's which look to be identical to the SM938's except the side firing woofer is 8" instead of 10". These speakers are very good, I'm not even gonna say "For the money" because you could use these speakers with very high end stuff, and not feel like your speakers were the weak link. I hooked them up to my E-Bay purchased system (Used NAD 1600 pre-amp $170, Used NAD 2200 Amp $240, Used NAD 503 CD player $76 ) which is located in a 12'X 12' room. I placed the speakers 3' from front and side walls thus leaving 6' between speakers and toed them in slightly. I used basic monster cables in this set up. I was very pleased with this presentation, so much so that I grabbed my wife and said, here listen to these, she does not get excited easily, she really liked them. My wife said I rarely hear speakers that totally disappear in front of you, and she said when she closed her eyes she thought she was back in that piano bar we were in on our cruise. My wife felt they sounded better than my Martin Logan Aerius's ($2,000 new) when we did an A/B comparison. I wouldn't go quite that far, but I do think they presented a better sound-stage! The downside, the midrange was not quite as smooth as the ML's and the mid bass was not as acurate. The SV-10's cabinets probably could use more internal bracing, but the bass never got boomy. In a nut shell, I'm having a hard time convincing my wife that the extra $19,150 dollars I spent on my reference system (Martin Login Odyssey's and subs, with Balanced Audio Technology amps/preamps, TMC cables/wires, and so on) was justified!!! Obviously, my reference system has much bigger sound, and play's to much higher levels before distorting, well actually, it really never distorts. The Fluance SV-10's however; will, easily fill a small room (And would fill a big room with a added Sub) nicely. Here is the biggest complement you could give a $269.00 pair of speakers, "These speakers definitely deserve to be hooked up to high-end equipment, not to some $1000 receiver!" If you don't like the sound of these speakers in your setup, my guess is, it is not the speaker's fault, or these speakers just don't match well with your other equip-ment. With any stereo system "Luck" is always a issue, and maybe I got lucky with this setup, but the SV-10's sure pleased me!

First off - I am not an audio aficionado. I have listened to a number of speakers and receivers and know a fair amount about audio - but I am a far cry from an audiophile. However I can differentiate between crisp and clear sound and muffled and muddied sound. But more importantly - I know what I like and let me tell you - I like these Fluance speakers. I've listened to various speaker/receiver setups and a fair number of source materials (music, movies, etc.). Therefore my ear has been trained more so than the average listener but not to the degree where I can discern the strength of the highs and lows of the speakers. Therefore all I can comment upon is the enjoyment level these speakers produced of various audio sources (music and movies). And the enjoyment level was substantial (considering that these speakers didn't break my bank – they are less than $300). Enough rambling - now on to the review: These speakers are AMAZING with home theater! They produce startlingly rich and clear sound even at fairly high decibel levels. Factories pay their workers much less than in Western nations therefore the company can cut the prices of their speakers because a large chunk of their profit is not allocated to labor compensation. 3. Fluance sells direct – there is no middleman. No wholesalers or liquidators. You buy them directly from the manufacturer and so all you are paying for is shipping. 4. I am using these speakers in conjunction with the Denon 1602 receive

Strength:

Extended bottom end small foot print cabinet attractive design great bang for the buck

Weakness:

colored upper bass lacks snap some cabinet vibrations color sound a narrow sound stage

i have listened to the Fluance SM938's for about a month now.I can honestly tell you that these are NOT HIGH END audio speakers. At 269.00 a Pair!!! what do you expect? The upper bass is very colored due to a 900 hz crossover for the 10 in woofer and a vibrating cabinet. the upper end is sweet but lacks extended hi's and a rather un defined soundstage. over all sound is Warm. The speakers can put out rather extended low bass if the are properly placed even in a 800 sq/foot room. The Sm938 is a great buy for the budget audiophile remember you can spend a lot more on wonderwire speakers cables than you would on these speakers. If a 5 rating is the ultimate audio best i would give these a 2.9 for audio quality much lower than the other reviews you see but as a reference a true 4 rating from me would typically be a 2000 dollar pair of speakers of more.

Strength:

Clear, Crisp Sound. The highs and lows comming from the DVD Movies specially those in DTS Format and 5.1 are the best!!Excellent made speakers for the price paid.Strong sound from the 10"woofer.

Weakness:

None Found!

I was a little skeptical about buying these speakers because with those specifications and that price it was too good to be true so i asked my friend who is an expert on audio equipment to come home at look and read about it on their web site. Even he couldn''''''''t believe the specs on these speakers but since i wasnt looking for expensive speakers(like the ones he owns)he said to give them a tried and that he will like to come over and listen to them.Well i got them and he came over and we pumped the volume and played a couple of digital cds and he stood with his eyes wide open amazed at the clear sound comming from these babies even at high volume. I must say that this purchased was worth every penny. Even the way that the factory packages these babies its amazing. They were double boxed, wrapped around plastic, surround by styrofoam. It''''''''s as these speakers were glass. They are well made and solid, not to say that the sound its great. Minded I listened to the Polks RT1000i(cheapest price found $899 pair)Acoustic Research AR 5(chapest$699 pair)Bose701 and Some others and truthfully these Fluance sound just as nice if not better.Just remember these are bi-wire speakers so in order to obtain the best sound from these speaker you must bi-wire. That means that you must remove the gold plated jumper from the back of the speaker and use bi-wire cable, but if you choose to connect these speakers the normal way they will work but the sound wont be as clear and crisp as when you bi-wire.This mistake has been done from a few people that I''''''''ve read bad reviews as far as sound from these speakers not realizing that the problem has been done with the hook-up and not from the speakers. These speakers can compete anytime with speakers costing over a $1000. Highly recomended! Thanks Fluance for making such a great speaker at such affordable price!!!!

Look Great! Price! Spikes! Binding Posts! Sound Great! Etc...

Weakness:

Cabinets not too thick.

You can't beat this deal. Whoever made these, Goldsky or Fluance, for $249.00, they are a steal! Very well packed for shipping(double boxed), Spikes to keep them off the floor, rubber surrounds on the front drivers(front baffle nice and thick!), BASS that "ROCKS" the house! Gold plated binding posts...and HEAVY! Almost too good to be true! I was a little scared buying them with no experience with Fluance, but the gambler in me took over and I couldn't be happier!

Strength:

Weakness:

Viynl Cabinet-looks a bit too artificial. but the cloth sets it off nice

Pretty nice for the money. These are meant to compete with
Mission, PSB, Paradigm, etc. Designed in Sweeden. Made in the Orient. The company is trying to get a foot in the door here.

Frankly, I think the Mission 702e speakers have clearer sound, but the Fluances need some more breaking in.

The rest of the system:

Sony CDP7700ES DVD
SAE II A-14 Inegrated amp. (driving the Missions and Fluance
HK 510 AV Receiver
Klipsch Surround Sound speakers
Cheap turntable from JVC. (gotta get my old Dual's cue
fixed).
Auric Illuminator and Mat
Better Cables for most connections

All of it is very nice sounding stuff (video nice too)
The amps are dyanmite! And I am working to clear up my home's power, right down to the grounding and outlets
(partially for health reasons too- dirty power is hard on humans too!) Great cables!!!!!!!!! Great DVD too!!!!!

Looking into Quantum Resonance Symphony unit and Niles
Surge.power conditioner

The Fluances are a good deal. The company has a website, but
look for the two Canadian sellers for a better price.
