Strength:

mids & highs are amazing

Weakness:

bass is excellent for size, but these are bookshelves...

I'll keep this short.

(not sure of the model year, btw)

I got a GREAT deal on these on audioreview, from a seller who'd modified them by adding some exotic capacitors which supposedly help the bass, so my review may be slightly inaccurate in this regard. I use them with Creek amplification, which I understand is a good match and the manufacturers (creek & epos) recommend each other.

What I really am leaving the review for: I've used these single-wired for a couple years, and always thought they were quite good. I never believed bi-wiring would ever make a difference. Now I've bi-wired, nothing exotic, just some Radio Shack Gold 12-guage wire. My GOD! Everything sounds cleaner, tighter, better. Even my girlfriend noticed. And, due to the clearance at the Shack (which I ordinarily wouldn't be caught dead buying stuff from, but this seems to work just fine) I was able to upgrade the wires for only 40 bucks! So DO biwire, if you have biwireable speakers of any make. I'm hearing all kinds of new details on (some of) my cd's. I say some of, because the only ones I'm hearing extra stuff on are the cds that were well mastered. The other badly mastered cds still sound a bit muddy.... garbage in garbage out.

If I'd paid $800 for the speakers, I'd still be happy, though bargain lover I am, I'm ecstatic over these now!

I've just recently added an energy XL-10 (?) sub, which fills in the bass. The energy sub is good, and I appreciate the low bass, but I must admit that the energy sub doesn't measure up to the epos speakers in sound quality, but the really good subs cost over a grand, and I don't want to spend that. Even without the sub, these are really (startlingly) excellent though.

Enjoy, and don't hesitate if you have a chance to buy these lovelies.

P.S. I am a hard grader, don't give 5 stars lightly. The energy sub would get 3.5 stars from me (other reviewers generally give it a 4 or 5).
