Strength:

The 28P's are very nice looking speaker that will compliment, or even enhance the looks of your home theatre set up. As far as the sound quality of the 28P, they perform as good as they look with good all around sound and deep resonating bass that comes with the built in 8" sub.

Weakness:

Weaknesses are hard to find in sound quality, but there are some in terms of functionality; that is, because of the slim design of the 28P's, thay have trouble standing on soft carpet. The problem is somewhat corrected with the addition of two metal square rods (supplied by the manufacturer)at the base of each speaker to help balance them.

The 28P's are nice looking speakers with very good sound quality for both musical and video purposes. All sound frequencies are produced with ease and accuracy, ranging from high pitch bird chirpings to low pitch thunderous sounds of Hollywood explosions. The bass is awesome in these speakers. The built in 8" sub really delivers; who needs subwoofers? But , they sound even better with the addition of a subwoofer...bone-shatteringly better!

Giovani, c'mon man, these speakers deserve better than one star. You must work for a competing audio manufacturer. What is it, why the low score?

Strength:

Dynamic bass response,

Weakness:

Inconsistent production of mids and lows. Countless loss of dimensional imaging. Tuning the power subwoofer controls in rear are not consistent with identical matching speaker.

Tower speakers by definition are to include the complete spectrum of the sound bandwidth. What is on paper is not always encounter in the proper environment. I found these speakers to have an inconsistent production of the mid and low frequency bandwidth. To further exasperate this problem I found at times too little response and at other times too much of highs and mids. It became a normal procedure to make adjustments. Am I working for this speaker or is the speaker working for me. When tuned correctly they did sound impressive but this impact was short lived. Under surround sound environments I encounter having to constantly make adjustments influencing my concentration on the movie. Floor supports lack integrity. Comparing this design to others brings questions to mind did the company only test these speakers on hardwood floors???? Company assistance in conjunction with finding a representative that clearly understands the company's product became a tiresome exchange leaving an indelible impression. In conclusion, If constant adjustments is something you desire than these speakers are fine for casual listening. If you desire a speaker that produces smooth controlled complete frequency bandwidth I would look at other companies speakers.

Energys new exl28p is what I would call a real party speaker, This speaker has bass like you never heard before for there size. If you like to hear bass in movies and music, match a pair of these to exl-s12 sub, you can party on. Just email if you need a canadian connection for out of country purchasing. With the american exchange rate, you cant beat Canadian prices!

Have had these speakers for more than 7 monthes now, all I can say about this speaker is: unbelievable!! But there are few things you have to do before you make a serious judgement: BI WIRING THEM!! USE THE BEST SPEAKER CABLE & INTERCONNECTS YOU CAN AFFORD, THEY WILL IMPROVED THE SOUND 10 TO 30% MORE!!! I used to use some cheap cables, and I was disappointed by the sound, I was going to sell them, but I changed mind after I bought some Kimber Kable(4PR, the entry level from Kimber), the speaker sounds ten times better than before(bi-wiring).I started to believe that cable do make a difference! But that Kimber 4PR was a little harsh at highs even after a period of broken in. So I decided to use the best cable(for me) I can get, so I made some Cat5 speaker cable and silver interconnect by using Chris VenHaus' recipe, after spent over 100 hours broken in, you would not believe this is the same pair of speaker. I just can't describe what a difference that Cat5 cable and silver interconnect made. Some claimed that they had hard time to tuning this speaker, I had same problem when I used cheap cables, but since I upgraded cables, this problem were gone. If you are interested in making a best cable without broke your bank, go to this website to learn how: http://www.geocities.com/venhaus1/diycatfivecables.html

Strength:

Astounding bass response.
Excellent looks.
Easily adjustable.
Incredible value.

Weakness:

Harsh at louder volumes at a short listening position, or in a small room.
Hard to compensate for some lack of midrange.

I work in a audio/video store in the Chicagoland area, Barrett's Audio/Video. As such I enjoy audio quite a bit. However, I don't get too caught up in terminologies, jargon, Kimber Kable Select, and the ilk. I feel what makes the most difference is your selection of speakers, along with good quality gear that is not ridiculously overpriced. Anyway, this is what I own:

Mitsubishi MVR-700
Mitsubishi DD-4001
Sony CDPCX333ES
Sony MiniDisc MDBUNDLE5
Energy EXL28P x2
Energy EXL-C
Energy EXL-15 x2
Esoteric Audio Interconnects and Speaker Wire

Before you laugh, the Mitsubishi receiver is made by Onkyo (the equivalent of the TXDS-575) and its ratings are identical to the Integra DTR5 or DTR5.1. It sounds great! But on to the speakers; I will make this easy, short and sweet.

Strengths
-=-=-=-=-
1. Bass. (Enough said.)
2. Clarity.
3. Wonderful, near pinpoint imaging.
4. Build quality and appearance.
5. Ease of use and adjustment.
6. Good for music and home theater, if tuned properly.
7. Punchiness and impact (presence, if you will).

Weaknesses
-=-=-=-=-=-
1. Wobbly.
2. Not too transparent.
3. Lack of midrange.
4. Takes time to tune properly.
5. Some coloration.

Overall, this is a phenominal speaker for the money. The bass output is incredible, and they are crisp with typical top-shelf imaging, as is expected from Energy. However, I use them for music 90% of the time, which leads me into my major gripe; lack of midrange. With only one 6 1/2 inch driver, even with the sub crossed over at 90 Hz (the maximum) there is still a noticable lack of midrange. This is minor, and something casual listeners probably wouldn't notice or care about. It takes time to tune them how you like them as well. Also, for audio purists, they are not as accurate as M&K, or the C Series for example. Vocals are colored somewhat; I prefer this to a degree but many purists do not. These speakers come with my highest recommendation, but make sure you listen to them in the store with your own material, and try them out at home before you keep them! My motto is "Listen to it. Do you like it? Is there anything holding you back? Then buy it, and have a good time!"

Strength:

Sound as good as they look. Bi-wireable. Great subs with concealable Level Control and Low Frequency Equalization controls on the front of the speaker.

Weakness:

Are you kidding me?

I haven't worked them in yet but they sound spectacular! Terrific all around and the built-in 8" subs are wonderfully responsive and clear (no need for a standalone sub)! Frequency response is 22Hz - 25KHz +/-3dB. By far the best speaker I found for that price range ($1200). And to think I walked off with them brand new on boxing day for about half the MSRP ($700 Cdn). Hahaha. I'm still laughing. Oh ya... Gotta love those neon-blue LEDS - they look so cool! My buddies don't brag about their audio systems anymore :)

Hi,
The E-XL 28p is a overall good value for $ 1000.00. The speaker has powerful bass projection, very smooth wave pattern. However, if you live in a townhouse
like I do you might to have tweek the EQ control down to balance the level of bass.Don't want to scare your neighbors. The tweeter and midrange are well balanced with no distortion or resonance. A very nice wide sound. I recommend to place each speaker about 10-12ft apart for maximum pleasure. Solo singers sound real nice. Jazz, such as Kenny G live versions sounds exceptionly well. If you like Jazz these speakers are for you. If like Rock/Rap will lots of bass these are your number one choice. If like Surround Sound movies/ AC3 these speakers are for you. The low Bass freq when watching movies is excellent. I don't even have sub, and I have plenty of bass response. Yes you will feel the sub floor shake! My poor neighbors..

If you are looking for speakers with little bass these are not your choice!

I feel overall value these speakers exceed my expectations. I would recommend
these speakers over the POLK 1000. See, Polk bass is very snappy, but what
would you expect from a 6.5 driver as opposed to the Energy 28p 8" sub. The
8" sub gives you more rthymic bass waves sounds. In my opinion, POLK can't
duplicate. The energy box looks better and complments your room furniture better. Polks are to wide and have some type fury/rubber/grey material in the
front. Personal i think this material over time will dry rot or peel over time.

For person who had all Radio Shack/JBL speakers I feel Energy is the way to go
for value.

I used a pioneer 607s rcv/ AC3. Maybe I will try Nad or Onyko to improve amp
surround effects.

These speakers are very powerful even when amps were unplugged from each speaker
It is amazing how energy got such great sound/bass from this design.

I recommend you try Jazz, Rock , lite Rock, Newwave. Go from heavy bass sounds to high pitch sounds. When I compared $ 400.00 JBL with certain types music I could hear the Midrange and tweeter could not handle intended sounds. With Energy you will not have a resonance and vibrationally errors. Listen, but
you first must put it to the test.

Good luck!

Nowhere will you find more speaker for the money. I compared these to many (more expensive) speakers. Such as Dunlavy, and B&W etc. The Dunlavy's were the only speaker in my opinion that outperformed the XL-28's. However they were nearly 5 times the price. I drive my 28's with a Marantz SR-5000. I also tested these speakers with some Yamaha amps but found that the Marantz had a warmer, more natural sound. I have now been enjoying these speakers for more than a year. Through the first 3 or 4 months as they broke in the sound quality increased significantly. If you are considering purchasing a pair of these you will not be sorry. I honestly don’t think you will find more bang for the buck anywhere. I have played every type of music imaginable through these speakers, and every one of them has sounded perfect. Go for it, you’ll love them.
