Need big power to drive this speaker, if you want to listening a better music

I like this speaker because in this price range, there no speaker better.
The musical character is soft and the bass is fully controlled.

Strength:

Imaging, Fairly flat frequency response, Very detailed, accurate and open reproduction of sound. Price! This speaker is a steal at $1600 retail!

Weakness:

Need good electronics. Vinyl finish.

(This model is an update of the Dynaudio Audience 70, so see that speaker for more reviews).

I have been upgrading my system for the past few months and was searchng for a speaker that would reproduce music accurately with as little artifice and gimmick as possible. I actually purchased a pair of audience 52's at first but realized that for the price of a good pair of stands I could just as easily upgrade to a floor standing model. Was going to upgrade to the 62's but the 72's were only $300 more, so what the heck.

This speaker does a wonderful job of reproducing music without the usual gimmicks that many audiophile quality in this price range resort to. They image spectacularly well, the midrange and high end are smooth but not overpronounced, and the base response is low and accurate (but not overpowering). I find that I am hearing a lot of detail that was prevoiusly missing-- I can hear the decay on cymbals now! I found that break-in time was about 50 hours for me--I have not noticed any further improvements in sound past that point (I personlly thing that "break-in" on cables and electonics is a scam that dealers perpetrate to save the sale).

This speaker can be very unforgiving however, so I don't reccomend using substandard electonics or cables. The Plinius integrated I am using works very well with this speaker, as would any good solid state or tube amp.

Since my dealer has a 1 year upgrade policy, I am thinking aobut upgrading to the Dynaudio contour 1.8 sometime later this year-- I am that impressed with the Dynaudio product.
However, if you don't have $3500 to spend, you cannot go wrong with the Audience 72 (or any speaker in the audience line, for that matter!)

Asssociated Gear:

Rotel 971 CD player

misc. tweaks--sorbothane feet, etc.

Strength:

clarity,detail,speed,bass slam

Weakness:

ruthlessly reveals bad recordings and cheap upstream equipment

From what I've read of the Audience 70 reviews, the legend lives on with the 72. All of the speakers I auditioned sounded good in different ways and with different draw backs. And although they are all pretty neutral in the all important midrange, the Dyn's are a stand out.
The detail is truly amazing. Bass is fast and punchy but very uniform with the rest of the frequency range.
The transparency of these speakers can be a two edged sword. Some of my favorite older CDs are barely listenable because the bad recording and mastering is so well revealed. But I can live with that because of how great well recorded CDs sound.
I use these for 2 channel HT. Dialog is articulate and the bass slams down to 28htz! Subwoofers need not apply.
As for the vinyl finish, it looks like real wood to me, and I like the idea of putting more of the manufacturing cost into the electronics so you're paying less for cosmetics.
A great sounding full range speaker for $1600 retail seems like an outrageous bargain to me.
