Strength:

Imaging, dynamics, built in stands, Gold binding posts, price

Weakness:

grills are easily torn on corners, not much low end

I bought these demos from a local dealer after a long, agonizing research process about 3 years ago. I have a variation on the 100.6 system with bipolars in the rear. My wife and I have remained quite happy with this system for movies and music. The front 100's were an excellent buy and have performed well with the only complaint being the easily torn corners on the grills ( mine are white and the black underneath shows through). This seems to be a problem for many of the Def Tech models I have seen as I have checked out classifieds for a future upgrade to some bipolar towers. It is a small problem which has no effect on performance and will not influence my plans to buy another Def Tech system and keep my current on in another room. We have been spoiled with a good system and this is obvious when we watch at someone else's house.

Looks, stand are wall mountable

Weakness:

The Promoniter C2 speaker Grill could not be removed. Scared to pull the grill for cleaning purpose

First, I have to thank the customers who had given a rare reviews and rating on Deftech speakers. After months of research, I made my mind to buy this speaker. I walked into my dealer’s showroom (Absolute Sound) on a Saturday and asked the professional about this speaker. I spent about hours in listening to the same music in few other speakers and then decided to buy this one. The speakers I evaluated or considered are B&W, Paradigm, Boston Acoustics, Energy’s & Deftech. IMHO, I would give full credit to Paradigm than Deftech because for the same price what I pay for Deftech, you get a better sound & quality but I did not choose paradigm because the looks was traditional and was a typical box. Trust me! they sounded great than any other speakers. I decided to buy Deftech-Promoniter 100 because they sounded almost close to Paradigm(don’t know the model exactly), and Deftech had great looks. B&W had problems with the grille poping out frequently and was expensive, Boston Acoustics had more of base than to hear a clear dialogue, but I would rate this close to Deftech. Energy’s were boxy and was not as clear as the others. Before going to the dealer, I checked about the speakers in their website, asked for specifications, opinions and some information on the speakers, those information helped me to decide on Pro-moniter 100.

Overall, this speaker sounds great. I am able to hear the tiny piece of nail dropping on the floor clearly. The woofer sounds great, the cross over is excellent. These speakers are the best for home theatre, listening to music and ideal for a home or an apartment. If you can crank to the highest volume possible, these speakers never give-up, You can create an earthquake if required. I would higly recommend to have a listening experience of this speaker with your local dealer and then decide.

My configuration
Front & Rear speakers – ProMoniter 100 (4 speakers)
Center Speaker – Deftech ProMoniter C2 (This one is excellent! Than Promoniter center)
Woofer – Deftech Prosub 100TL
TV- SONY XBR 32
A/V receiver – YAMAHA RXV 800
DVD Player 1-Toshiba 1600 DVD player
DVD Player 2 – SMC DVD player (for VCD/All zone DVD’s)
VCR – SONY VCR
CD Player – Nakamachi - MB8
Casette player – Technics HX Pro dual tape deck
Satellite – Direct TV (Hughes Digital satellite receiver)
Headphones – Beyerdynamic DT531
Interconnecting cables are Monster & Recoton cables (most of the good cables and wires are Oxygen free). Speaker wires are recommended by the local dealer.

Strength:

Small size, Gold connections, built-in stands.

Weakness:

Low bass response rolloff when used as front mains. Almost impossible to blend with a real good sub.

Upgraded my existing system. Purchased a Def Tech PF15TL+ and a Def-Tech C/L/R 2300 to give system a major boost. They did wonders for my overall sound.

Next step was getting front mains. Had to compromise since I spent a lot of money upgrading my system [recently purchased a Pioneer 53" HDTV Widescreen and Panasonic Progressive scan DVD with DVD audio capability as well].

Went to the Def-Tech dealer and listened to the PM100s. The sound was pretty good but assumed that they were better suited for surround duty. I inquired about the 200s and sadly enough none were on hand for purchase or demo. However, I ordered a pair of 200s on faith and took the 100s home. I hooked the 100s as the front mains temporarily while the 200s came in. I crossed the 100s to my new 500w PF15TL+ subwoofer.

My assumption that they were better suited as rears were confirmed as the sub overpowered them and a noticeable gap in the low range was evident. I knew this going in from the hometheater review of the 100s [rapid rolloff at 104 Hz]. Crossing them properly means setting the low pass crossover of the sub at approx. 100hz. This means the sub is playing the low range which is still audible which results in localization.

When the 200s showed up, they took the place of the 100s. Immediatley I noticed a BIG, BIG difference. I thought the Sub was powered off since it appeared that they weren't coming into play anymore. I checked, and yes the sub was still operational. The 200s were a perfect match for the hi-end PF15TL+ sub. The crossover was seamless. People that come over to watch DVDs or listen to music could never guess where the sub is located. I set the sub crossover at 60-70 hz. The mid's were present on the 200s and they played louder than the 100s at the same volume. I checked the specs and they confirmed the higher sensitivity of the 200s [91db].

For the price, [$350 MSRP for the pair], the 100s are a good buy. I would recommend them for rear duty only if you can get them at a $50-100 discount. The 100s are a nice speaker, however, I will rate them a 4 due to the fact that the 200s are a much better deal in comparison even though they are priced $100 more per pair [MSRP]. If you are looking for front mains and are considering the 100s, find the extra cash required to buy the 200s. You won't regret it. If you can't, the 100s will do just fine.

Strength:

compact size, wall mount can be angled almost any way you want, smooth sound

Weakness:

very weak bass, tweeter needs a lot of break in time to sound sweet

I originally purchased these speakers because it got rave reviews from all of the stereo magazines. When i brought it home I thought I had one of the best surround speakers for under $300. The midrange and high end were a little brash and the bass was non existent, but iI knew that I had to break them in. After about 30 hours, the tweeter became less harsh sounding and the midrange was nice and clear. But I was dissapointed that the bass was still non existent. For the money, this is a good surround speaker, but you will have to add a sub in the rear to really get the full effect. So, I am upgrading to BPX's because I have heard them and they sound sweet.

Looked at this system, priced at $1349, was a good all around system but seemed to lack a clear high end. Other speakers looked at were the Boston Acoustics micro 9000, Klipsch Quintet, and NHT with superones fronts and center, with superzeros as surround.
4 stars for Definitive, 5 for NHT.

This sub rocks!!! I went in looking at the energy es series and couldn't believe how awesome this thing sounds! Now the only problem is keeping my neighbors pissed off. Any suggestions (besides turning the sub off)?
This thing is soo deep (rated at 19Hz, but I haven't tested it) and the 125 Watts can drown out my rx-v592 if I'm not careful.

I love this system. I'm shame to admit it, but my first choice was the Bose Acoustimass 15 series system. I returned it and now I'm enjoying the full, deep sound from my Definitive. The Pro Cinema 100 speakers are contructed very well and looks great! The amp-sub is spectacular for the price, its shames the Acoustimass module. For the price and quality, this system belongs with the rest of the high quality home system out there.

Had my new house pre-wired with Monster Cable during construction. Wanted an inconspicuous speaker system that would rock when needed but wouldn't dominate the decor(translation: keep wife happy). Looked at Sub-sats from Klipsch, Polk, Boston Acoustics, Bose, JBL, Yamaha, Infinity, etc. Nothing was as good all around as the Procinema 100.6 system I demo'd. I have this system hooked up to Kenwood's DTS/Dolby Digital 100 Watt per channel Receiver and a Proscan DVD. I still have not turned it up all the way as it begins shaking furniture in the room too much. DTS is phenomenal-I have the Movie Tracks disk and Jet low level fly-bys are amazing. the system came in white to blend in better as well (translation: wife liked them too)
