I have also owned BP-20s since 1994. These are terrific speakers. They can be happy with the output of a receiver or can take anything my Sunfire amp can dish out.
Strong points: clean midrange, good bass, great power handling ability

Weaknesses: Bipolar configuration does not work in all rooms and can seriously
degrade imaging if not properly located. Tweeters can be
unforgiving of poor recordings.

I was very sad not to see a listing for an opinion on these speakers. I bought my first pair of BP20's in 1994. These speakers have been hooked to a Sony 1090 which is a very basic amp, then to a Adcom 6000 and are now being used buy my clubs Sunfire. Lets get a life these are the king of the hill. Jazz, rock, and classic these things are great. Very smooth like a good bourbon, we play a lot of rock, Beatles-Stones-Journey-Hootie and so on and nothing can make these things sound bad. WE ALSO BREAK DOWN and play old man Jimmy Buffett and they keep on KICKIN. OH let's not forget the RAP night, 2 pairs of these BP 20's play that crud all night-Tone Loc to the Tag Team.
Home theater wise I have a Pair of BP 20's front left and right and C1 center and BP 8's on the rear. Best thing I have heard using all Adcom Power.

By the way opening a new club in K.C MO soon and using 8 BP-30 which is really a BP-20 with new cones and 4 PF-15's. You may ask why the PF-15's and not the PF1500 of 1800? The 15's are rock solid and a very efficient solution.

If my spelling is of please forgive, my wife normally does the typing

Casual Listener

Strength:

I love the depth of these speakers they dare you to push them.It seemthe louder you play them the better they sound.

Weakness:

I think depending on how you power them they tend to be weak for just at random listening.I love jazz and jazz fusion and being a drummer I am always paying attention to the bass cymbals etc.I find that these speakers rock when it comes to music with a punch. You can not beat them for the money.Just make sure you have an amp that Has a lot of depth because these speakers love a lot of power.Clean power.I use a carver av806.It seems to be a great match.Especially for some one who wants to combine home theater with just being able to sit baack and listen.

You can not beat them for the money period.Like there directions state if you expereience clipping buy a more powerful amp! They can take it.

Similar Products Used:

None in that category.I use m&k for my front channels.I also have a pair of bi-polar paradigms.

Strength:

Powerful. Best bang for the buck (for this genre) on the planet. Easily driven. Large sweet spot.

Weakness:

Not constructed for critical true esoteric audiophile level musical listening.

Very powerful loudspeakers that can be driven by integrated systems as well as heavy duty audiophie high current amplification. These speakers reach deep into the bass keeping it tight and strong. The BP-20s have a large sweet spot and are not difficult to set up UNLESS you plan to use them for critical musical audiophile listening monitors. These two speakers properly amplified can easily do a better job of creating a truly convincing home theater experience than most full fledged multispeaker/sub surround sound systems. If you plan to utilize these to experience video dramas you will be pleased for many years to come. I have enjoyed these loudspeakers for many years and have many different audiences with great success. I currently amplify my BP-20s with an Adcom amplifier at 200 Watts. However I initially amplified them with a Sony Receiver. I have had to deal with definitive to replace a damaged driver (---movers---) and was pleasantly surprised at both the quality and speed of service, as well as the reasonable parts prices.

These loudspeakers are not constructed for critical audiophile level listening. They are not designed to faithfully reproduce music for a listener versed in spacial placement, soundstaging, depth, height, and instrumental placement. While these loudspeakers can reproduce these things if setup very very carefully they are not designed for this purpose. However if one is not critical at a truly audiophile level the BP20s are extremely enjoyable speakers. I would make the purchase over again in a heartbeat.
