I have to totally disagree with Oscar. Your dealer must have a shi**y amp if the Dalis had slow and muddy bass. If you have a high-quality amplifier with at least 200 watts per channel, the Dalis have excellent bass-response. The Cerwin-Vegas are only good for one thing...Volume! Their sound-quality is not very good. The Dali 909s on the other hand sound great with all kinds of music. And they can play really loud too if that´s what you want.

i just bought a pair of Dali 909s and i just love them. If you are a real hifi phreak ;) these arent the speakers for you. I listen to all kinds of music from heavy to techno. The bass is incredible (909 has 4 x 10" subwoofers!) you can get soooo much sound out of these speakers and the RMS of 500W tells it all. The bass deserves 4 speakers, but the midrange is a bit hard only 3 stars, the high frequency transducer is quite good, 4 speakers...these speakers dont even require a powerful amp (92db 4ohm)
great...

I went down to my friendly dealer to listen. I walked in to the room and saw them, Dali 909. They looked great!! I listened to Iron Maidens Man on the edge and became very dissapointed. The bass was slow and muddy, the midrange was hard and the treble was like thousand nedles!! Then I listened to Cerwin Vega VS 15. The opposite to the Dalis. The bass was fast and punchy, midrange spacy and relaxed and the treble very crispy!! Guess wich speakers I´m saving up to??
5 to Vega

My-my-my... Oscar... Cerwin-Vega! is good, yes, if you wanna knock your head off in a pond of butt-kickin' bass :) Two weeks ago, I went to our country's biggest Hi-Fi store with one goal in my mind: Buy a pair of good speakers for a "low" price. I planned to buy Cerwin-Vega E-315, cause' I have heard much good about them and the extreeeeemely good and punchy bass. When I listened to them in the demoroom (which of course had a really good amplifier!), I was not at all satisfied! As a composer I really need some precise speakers with nice, not over-boosted bass. I got to try the cheaper pair Dali 909, and I have got one single thing to say: Excellent, almost outstanding! This is the best pair of speakers I've ever heard. Overall review of the Dali 909:
Crisp treble, mid-tone just a little too high (sigh), and a nice, punchy bass. Plays almost correctly :) at low volume and is really great on high volume!
But for the price it's really great, and I'm really enjoying them! (For the price I've just have to say: 5 stars!)

Strength:

Great treble,midrange and bass.

Weakness:

None that I can hear.

My system contains Dali 909 frontspeakers, Nad 216THX, Yamaha RX-V795 and Pioneer DV-717. I ordered the B&W CDM CSE center channel today. I think these Dalis are great. In Norway they cost about 875 dollars a pair, and I am very satisfied.
I am also going to expand my system with a pair of Dali 606 as rear speakers, and a B&W ASW 3000 sub.
