I received this speaker from the local dealer. They are used. If very impress me by the shape. But after listened I decided to own. This speaker very smooth, transparent and clear bass. I wonder no one talk about it on this web. It is the wonderful gem.

Weakness:

This is the worst speakers I have ever heard. They call this sound. No debth in the soundfield, and slow bass, Get a grip Dali

Do not buy this speaker, because it is not worth it.

Strength:

Very good Soundstage, excellent lower and upper bass, styling. Gold plated Hex-Binding Posts.

Weakness:

hard to drive (4ohm).

I have owned these speakers for for about 7yrs and have been very pleased. I'm driving them with the Adcom 555II (biwired). The speakers have a great soundstage when side and front wall reflections are minimized. They also handle the Vocal range with extraordinary realism. Bass response has always been very good (especially with the 555). They can sound very bright, especially in a "live" room, but my listening room seems to be just right. I love to look around every few months at new audio equiptment to see and hear what's available. I always walk away happy knowing I have my DQ 30i's at home.

Strength:

Crisp, clean, very trasparent, imaging best I have heard. Owned a pair of DQ10s for 16 years before I bought these. Base is a little thin so I added a yamaha 200 watt sub. Powered with 300 watt Mackintosh amp and pre amp. I looked throughly at many different speakers before I bought the dq30i, but nothing compared in this price range. I have the speakers biwired. I just wish I could find out where to buy another pair.

Weakness:

Very inefficient speaker. Requires a alot of power to really fill them out. But, power has never been a problem with my system.

If you want a clean studio sound the DQ30i will deliver.

Strength:

Excellent highs and bass response

Weakness:

None

This is my third set of Dalquist speakers having owned the DQ20's and DQ20i's and now the DQ30i's.

Dalquist has always had a beautiful high end sound that I have never heard in any other speaker since. I believe it is the phased array placement of the speakers that produces this sound quality, what ever it is I like it.

The only problem the Dalquist line had was the lack of good bass response which the DQ30i solved.

I have had these speakers for almost 5 years now and enjoy the sound very much. They are excellent speakers for the money I spent. I noticed that there were only two reviews on this speaker one very bad and one very good so I figured I would add my two cents.

It's unfortunate that Dalquist is no longer in business but if you can get your hands on a used pair of these speakers
you would not be sorry. The speakers not only sound good but look great also.

Strength:

styling, mid-bass, ease of placement

Weakness:

can be bright with poor electronics

This review is most likely moot becauase this speaker is no longer made, which is too bad since it is the finest speaker I have auditioned/owned.

I bought it in 1993, when I lived in a small house with a very square, but somewhat live listening room.

I ran the unit with average electronics (Haflers, Sony, Monster). In that environment, the DQ-30's were outstanding, as I could never crank it too loud anyway without fear of hearing damage. Bass was sufficient and the upper end never got too edgy. Vocals were outstanding, as was mid and lower bass.

When I moved to a new house, my entire listening environment changed. Now, the room was VERY live and open with 16' high ceilings. My entire bottom end dropped out and the volume levels needed to engage the listener needed extension.

My first solution was to experiment with new electronics, so I purchased a Levinson 200 watt per channel amp and pre-amp. Big difference in the bottom end and I could increase the volumes without clipping. Still sounded a bit bright in the new environment. But nice open soundstaqe and vocals were extremely real.

However, I was still not satisfied with the overall 'feel'. So, I figured it was time for new speakers.

I auditioned electrostatics, figuring that I could manage the size of the environment with a larger soundfield. Then, I figured that I could augment the bottom end with a REL Storm sub. Sounded nice, but the DQ-30's were far superior and were not as particular about positioning. Especially on the source material like rock, blues and jazz (classical sounded nice on the ES speakers). The ES speakers also sucked the life out of my amp and I could never get any excitement out of them.

Having thrown out ES, I went to the VR-4's, VR-3's, and the Hales 3. More impressed at this point. However, I must say that for the dollar and for the styling, I was still in good stead with the DQ-30's.

Here I was ready to drop $4-5000 on new speakers and could not find a decent value. Everything that it out there has some faults (including my DQ-30's), but am still challenged to find the right piece.

I would recommend the following: if you can find these for under $1000, DO NOT HESITATE!!! I have yet to see them in any web site for sale. All who own know the value and will not sell them. I challenge anyone to find a pair. I have seen DQ-10 and DQ-20, but have never, in 3 years of looking, have I seen DQ30's. People have offered me money for mine, but I cannot part with them knowing that I can never find that sound again for the price point. I am certain that if I went to Wilson, Revel, Genesis or Kharma I might find what I am looking for - at $10,000 or more!!!

I have since augmented the pair with a REL Storm sub and I am at peace with the world once again. My wife loves the look and my friends still come over and ooh and ahh at the DQ-30's.

Some snobs will say that I should not have to augment full range speakers with a sub, but different listening conditions do exist and I hope that I have not offended any audiophile sensisbilities.

Happy listening.
