I've had my VS 120's for about 3 years now, I've had friends speak of these speakers and I've had other speakers that were 3 times the size. I've had speakers that had double 14'ch subs on either side, and not match these suckers for bass. Best money I EVER spent.

Strength:

Loud, cheap, durable

Weakness:

Mids highs dont produce well in certain types of music (all types have strengths and weaknesses). Large. Trouble w/ low bass (virtually all speakers in this price range do not handle 20Hz well, regardless of rating)

I have 100s over speakers, subs, monitors, etc normally ranging from the high end of commrecial products to the low/mid end of professional equipment. I purchased these speakers over 10 yrs ago b/c they cannot be matched in their price range. It always depends what you are looking for, but loud, feel the music sound comes through and the mids and highs are adequate for most music, especially compared to similar priced products. I pair w/ other spkrs for movies as they are not great for this, but again my bose L1 system was $1000 used. You can find a pair of VS 15's for $200.

Strength:

Nice powerful lows, low distortion at high volumes. Fuse protection. Red surround woofer is just plain sexy.

Weakness:

I don't know..they weren't free..but pretty close to it.

I had a set of small bookshelf Cerwin Vega from the E series and I loved them, but my little cousin did as well and dropped one of them... :( I bought a set of Infinity, primus series as a replacement, tweeter popped after less than 3 months usage. So I decided to go after what I had always wanted, a mean red surround floor standing beast capable of handling whatever I throw at it.

These things are incredible. To those who like their music loud and proud, this is the way to go. D n' B, House, Hip Hop, Rock all are powerful and distortion free at near riduculous volumes.

The tweeter is sharp at times, I can't lie about that, but that only because at higher volumes it has to keep up with that beast of a woofer. No complaints about the mids here.

With my current setup, The VS-120 as the mains, A velodyne DPS-12 subwoofer I can litterally shake ceiling fans 2 floors up in my house from them.

If you are looking at any Floor standing CV, be prepared to spend some coin on amplification, don't be cheap!

Strength:

lots of bass, and highs n mids sound good, looks(for how old they are)

Weakness:

air comes out were the fuse is, and tweeters are made cheaply(but sound good)

Baught these speakers used, but in very good condition, there really loudspeakers, tons of bass, and sound great with different kinds of music. I mainly listen to rap so this is why i love these speakers, but over-all they hammer.
And they will defently get ur neighbors pissed.

Strength:

BASE IS KILLER!!!

Weakness:

None I can hear.

I just bought a pair of Cerwin-Vega VS-120s. Am driving them with a Kenwood KR-A5060 100watts RMS per channel + Kenwood GE-1000 Equalizer. Also have a pair of Cerwin -Vega VE-5M just above them + Optimus 3 way behind me For sorta direct 5.1 I've never heard it SO GOOD!!! The VS-120s are the best I have listened to. The force and clarity are great, paint peeling!!!!!!! Base will kick your butt. To those others who did'nt like them, go buy your $1000.00 speakers. I'll stick with my 120s...........

Strength:

Clean, Powerful Bass. Crystal Clear Mids & Highs. High Power. Clean Sound. Peerless. Cerwin Vega leads the industry in everything. Competition Car Audio to Home Audio. From the VS to the Stroker. No one can touch them.

Mids & Highs have their own alluminum enclosure that's built into the main speakers enclosre.

Built in crossover filters.

Built in fuse boxes to preserve the life of your speakers, indefinately.

No penny was spared when it came to quality.

CV could gouge ya a lot harder then they do for these.

After 10 years, I'm down to about a dollar a day to call myself the owner of this system. It sounds as wonderful now as it did the day I bought it.

And I've been able to share the joy of music, as provided by CV, with so many others.

Weakness:

They don't fit in your pocket?

The magnets are big enough to pull your fridge across the house.

Not the greatest stands. Things don't do well on top of the speakers. They'll be thrown across the room in a few beats.

Money wasn't an object when I went out to buy my system. Research & Testing left me with a complete Onkyo console pushing 2-12" VS's and 2-15" VS's.

Ten years later and I still have the loudest & cleanest system of anyone I've met.

I can't even stand to hear the poor sound quality throbbing out of Clubs and Concerts anymore. It's just pollution in comparison.

At 25% volume from the Onkyo, the system easily rattles the outside fuse box wide open.

Nose starts bleeding at about 50% volume. Vertigo can occur.

The double-barrel ports in the back of these speakers are big enough to accomodate a pot-belly piglet. Careful that the cat doesn't crawl into the speakers. You would think that if you turned the volume up super loud that the cat would come shooting out of one of the ports. Not so. He'll grab on to the insulated walls and hold on for dear life. I almost envy him at that point. Quite the little trooper.

The drawback to owning these speakers is trying to keep them out of the public envy. Whenever you move, you have to keep these hidden under blankets and move them in the middle of the night. When you unleash their power, you instantly become like the pied piper to the easy-comers.

Dust cover does a great job of making them appear rather plain while still elegant. If you want to show off however, just remove the dust covers and Cerwin Vega provides you with some real style. I can't even count the movies and sitcoms that I've seen these speakers featured in.

A single pair of 12's or 15's just wont do. You MUST have a pair of each. The 15's hit when the 12's don't and vice-versa.

Mid's and highs are crystal clear. But it's the bass ... So deep & so much volume. It's like nothing else. And it's clean. Not a distorted, vibraty bass but a pure, clean, & smooth bass.

Customer Service

Hard to beat. Cerwin Vega guarentee's their life. If at any time during the last 10 years, something would have happened to one of them, Cerwin Vega offers to replace them. Your investment is secure with the company.

And they're Made in America.

Strength:

Smooth bass. Very clear highs even at a high volume. very clear, bass included even if you crank it up.

Weakness:

Draw a lot of power and tends to shut down my amp. :(

Yes i got these speakers for free. My dads friend gave them to him, so my dad gave them to me since he has 6 Advent legacy speakers with 3 asw 1200 subs. The cerwin Vegas are louder, clearer, and has more bass than all of that! This is by far the best speakers that i have heard. I have my vs 120s hooked up to a Technics 100 watt amp, with an advent asw 1200 100 watt sub. I have never seen someone vibrate pictures off the walls so much in my life. All of this is in my bed room which is only 10 feet by 8 feet. They sound GREAT!

Strength:

Bass, can handle a lot of power, fuse-protected,great for letting your anger out from the day.

Weakness:

might be too big for some people, not exactly good for classical/jazz music, bass can be overpowering for some people

I owned this speaker back in 1994 until 1995 when I traded it in for the older brother the VS-150's. 2 year later I sold the VS-150's as I was concentrating on car audio for awhile. I missed the Vega's so much 5 years later I purchased the newer models' V-12F's and the best Cerwin Vega model the LS-12's and continue to own them to this day with no intention of selling or trading them. The Vega's are perfect for 80's hard rock/metal and good for just about any other type of music. You will need a good quality amp to push these to get the most out of them. I run an Audiosource Amp Three which is rated at 150x2 RMS and that's all the power that you need unless you wanna go deaf!
