You guys listen to the wrong subs. The Infinity Kappa Perfect 12($350 list) destroys the Vega, and the Vega is rather boomy and lacking in SQ. I have seen perfects take 1000 watts RMS with no complaints. I have been sending 700 watts RMS to mine for a long period of time, and they sound worlds better than the vegas could ever dream of sounding. I have actually seen people send 1100 watts to them for extended periods of time with no problems. Vega would be dead at this point.
A Ground Zero Nuclear is about untouched for $700, massive excursion, good sound quality, and a 2.5 peak to peak excursion. The 12 will gladly handle over 1000 watts RMS. A vega would be toast at this point.

The Vega is a decent value, but there is an endless list of subs that are a whole lot better.

I've never seen Cerwin Vega make the best ANYTHING either.

Just adding some comments. I have heard both the Vega 10s and Vega 12s. I was not at all impressed. They were in the proper sized ported enclosure with a capable amp that was set properly. The vegas can move a lot of air for their price range, but they don't do so with any particular grace or with impressive tonal accuracy. They are boomy subs suited for rap and techno, and I wouldn't want them even for that.

Strength:

THE STRENGTHS ARE OBVIOUSLY THE MASSIVE BASS AS WELL AS THE COMPETATIVE COST,AND LOW DISTORTION LEVELS.

Weakness:

THE VEGAS DO HAVE A FEW WEAKNESSES SUCH AS THE MASSIVE AMOUNT OF AIR SPACE REQUIRED AND THE FACT THAT PLAYING THESE SUBS WILL MAKE OLDER PEOPLE LOOK AT YOU FUNNY.

I WOULD LIKE TO START OFF BY SAYING THAT THE CERWIN VEGA VEGA SERIES SUBS ROCK!!!! THE AMOUNT OF BANG THAT YOU GET FOR THE BUCK IS U N B E L I V E A B L E!
I HAVE A GOOD BUDDY OF MINE WHO HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN COMPETITION WITH ME IN ANYTHING THAT IVE EVER DONE. SO WHEN HE HEARD THAT I INVESTED IN A SOUND SYSTEM HE NATURALLY THOUGHT THAT HE HAD TO OUTDO ME IN THIS CATEGORY ALSO. I BOUGHT TWO VEGA 12'S PUT THEM IN A PROPERLY FITTED BOX AND HOOKED THEM UP TO A SONY 600 WATT RMS AMPLIFIER. SINCE I LIKED CERWIN VEGA HE BOUGHT 3 PILE DRIVER 12'S PLACED THEM THE BACK OF HIS SNUG FITTED S-10 AND TUNNELED THE CAB. WELL NEEDLESS TO SAY HE WAS SADDLY DISSAPOINTED WHEN THE 2 VEGAS OUTPERFORMED HIS 3 12'S (AND DID IT WITH EASE I MIGHT ADD).
IF YOURE LOOKING FOR A HEART SKIPPING BASS AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE THEN THE VEGAS ARE THE ONLY WAY TO GO. JUST HOOK THESE BAD BOYS UP AND BE PREPARED TO ANNOY OLDER STIFFS FOR YEARS TO COME.

Strength:

These subs will pound no matter what kind of power you put to them

Weakness:

there are no weaknesses

These subs pound harder than anything i've used or seen. To all these guys saying that the vega's suck or aren't great the problem must be that when the subs started pounding they blew your eardrums. I don't know how anyone could not be impressed by the vega's. I have two of them in a sealed enclosure with 2 cubs a piece. They don't recommend a sealed box, but I found them to sound better in a sealed enclosure rather than a ported one. I am powering these beasts with a pc2600 amp wired into 2 ohms which doubles it's output to 1200wrms. The subs can handle it easily. I can't even turn it up all the way because i'm losing my hearing. Anybody that says these subs suck obviously does not know what they are talking about, and should quit being jealous of stuff that is louder than theirs. sucka!

Strength:

great sounding bass, deep and loud and loud as hell

Weakness:

none

I hooked these subs up to a cheap Jensen amp at 125 watts each channel. For this amount of watts these subs pound. I can't wait to push these up to 300 watts RMS.

Strength:

Deeper bass than the stock E312 woofer
More solid construction
Runs cooler, handles way more power

Weakness:

Seems to be missing the mid-bass of the E312 woofer, but it's just an adjustment process for the listener, a mild one.

I mistakenly blew out one of my E312 woofers by taking it out of the cabinet and powering it (very dumb). So I bid on two of these Vega 124s on E-Bay over the summer and installed them in my E312 cabinets. I have been very impressed with these speakers. They seem more relaxed during all music, and basically run stone cold with my dinky Sharp 120W/channel. I know these are car subs, but they definately sound great in a home system.

I just need to get more power now...and ideally, a bigger mid-range for my E312, to cover the mid-bass, but that's not really gonna happen. I'm happy with the performance and frequency response the way it is.

BTW, I sent the damaged woofer to CV out in CA, and they sent it back, repaired, under the warranty. Great warranty (on the E312s)!

Strength:

never heard subs pound harder

Weakness:

i put some money into a shattered rear window

i have 2 12.4 cv subs in a custom bandpass box and they are powered by a california 400 watt amp. The subs are dirt cheap compaired to anything else you want to sound close as good. the box is a little spendy, but the amp is average. i bought the subs from crutchfield the amp from auto fun and the box from a little car audio place by my house

Strength:

Heart pounding, Ear hurting, Breaking everything BASS!
No other sub like it.

Weakness:

none.

i just want to cover something really quick...people compare sub to sub no matter the power, the cost, the intention of the company..or the intention of the sub.
You cant just come out and say..well my subs are better cause they cost 400$ a piece and hold 1200 watts power..Big Deal thats why CV made a stroker.. IT BEATS EVERYTHING IN SPL's it took 64 10's, 48,000 watts to beat 12 15's with only 7200 WATTS!! AND THEN ONLY BY 3 DB. if you take any sub...50$ give or take 200 watts give or take..nothing outdoes a CV Vega Series...Ive heard thousands of subs...been to DB drags..toyed with it all. CV built a sub that just can slam your hatchback, trunk, whatever till it shatters the glass. I have 2 12's in a ported box..EXACT PORT LENGTH for a 2.688 cubic foot per sub..in a small hatchback of a 94 eclipse...my rear view mirror falls down and i cant keep it up. I have the vega 3200 amp only 160x2 rms. and i cant breathe when i turn it up..the inside of my ears hurt...im sorry, but there is nothing like it!!
if you wanna hit harder dont by anything else...get a stroker! PERIOD!!!
