Got these used and man they ROCK! Have them plugged in to an old Sanyo Plus 75 receiver. I know it's old school but the sound is awesome and the old Sanyo has no problem with the 4 ohm speakers. Very Loud and clean. They are big and heavy so figure they're going to be part of your furniture. I would say set your living room lamp on them but it would most likely shake it off.

I have a New 7.1 Yamaha 630 watt sound sound and if you ask me this old school combo blows it away.

Bottom line - if you find these - buy them. You should figure up front the wife won't like them - to big and bulky and she will say them little cute cube speakers sound the same - Yeah ! right.

I would like to see them cute little cube speakers shake the walls like this combo does at only 40 watts !!

I bought these at best buy back in 95 and i'm going on record right now as saying these speakers RULE!!!! PERIOD they have the best bass response than any other speaker within $1000 and I payed $400 for them. I rember a few years back my best friend was wanting to build a stereo system but he didn't have alot of money so I took him to some pawn shops and helped him pick out components we got to this one pawn shop and they had two of these. I looked at them and they were in perfect shape i hooked them up to a receiver and they played perfectly then i looked at the price they were 125 for the both of them i looked at my boy and told him if he didn't pick them up right then i buy them that i would never talk to him again. if he wasn't my friend i would've bought them. I have four vega e312's and two AT12's as part of my system as good as they are they don't come close to the re30's and for all of you critics who don't like the mids and highs in cerwin vega's for the money you save on these just pair them with some bookshelf infinities and stop complaining.

None!

I didn't truly understand how great these speakers were until I hooked them up to high-end McIntosh equipment! They sound excellent! I've listened to every type of music from Hawaiian to Blues and they sound great! Highly recommended!

Strength:

LOUD

Weakness:

You can get more crisp sound from smaller speakers in this price range, but that's not why you buy these to begin with.

O.K. I got these in the black finish, and I've had them for going on 10 years now (2nd year of College!) for the college scene, these things are GREAT. I have these with two bookshelf RE's for rears, the center channel (a MUST if you have something with 12" woofers like these, otherwise you can forget about using them to watch movies) and then I have the 15" downward firing powered subwoofer that is more watts than I care to think of! They have had adult beverages spilled on them, they've been moved WAY too many times.... they spent a little time in a damp basement that wasn't the best environment for them, and yet they still sound great to this day. I am getting rid of them for a set of B&Ws because of their huge size, (and my wife's wishes) but I plan on setting up a home theater in the basement to hopefully shake the walls from time to time. I have caused two different recievers to flash "overload" or similar things by playing these things WAY TOO LOUD, and the speakers have held up marvelously. In one college party (we later got professional DJ equipment but that's another story) we connected my rears, Fronts, and sub (no center) with a friends matching sub (that's a total of 30" of POUNDING BASS) and his fronts (which were the 10" variety of the RE Series) and because of the two Subs, we actually broke a plate glass window in the house we were renting from the bass..... so yeah... these things can handle whatever you throw at them.

Bottom line...

Get them.

Strength:

Indiscernable distortion.
Clarity.
Power.

Weakness:

I can't find any.

I have built speaker enclosures since 1956 and although I never heard the Klipsch Folded Horns, the Cerwin-Vega RE-30 speaker is the best speaker I have ever heard.
The Tweeters are clear, balanced, and really reach up there to the frequencies above 10,000.
The Mid-Ranges have no discernable distortion and are clear when fully powered.
The Bass does not linger so I conclude that most of all the speaker's weight in in those magnets.
The cabinet finish is durable to everyday use.
I hang them from the ceiling because I want them physically isolated, and because I live in California.
I suppose the Cerwin-Vega RE-40's are excellent too.
As a former symphony musician, I can summarize by saying that the RE-30's leave nothing to be desired.

Customer Service

Never needed any, but they do answer questions when they're not being impatient.

Strength:

Very loud, impressive bass.

Weakness:

They are BIG! Wives, girl-freinds tend to want them replaced with something smaller.

I have a 400 Watt Nikko Amp which loves to blow speakers when I get
cranky with the volume knob. I blew a pair of Cerwin Vega AT-10's during
a party and finally came to the conclusion that I needed some serious speaker
power. I picked up a pair of basically new RE 30's at a garage sale!
They are awesome and take LOTS OF VOLUME, in fact, the amp kicks off
the safety breaker! the damn speakers have more balls than the amp!

Bottom line, they sound incredible....

Strength:

Awesome bass no need for a subwoofer. I cannot afford equipment that will blow them up.

Weakness:

Neighbors tend to get annoyed when their sheetrock shakes.

A friend of mine owned a pair of these and everytime I visited his house I lusted after them. I finally saved up some cash and bought my very own pair and have been very pleased with them for the past 5 years. I listed to CDs and pump DVD and TV audio through them. They will definitely fill a large room with crisp clean sound.

Strength:

Powerful, room shaking, ultra low, and clean bass. Nice mids and highs. Great stereo imaging Very efficient power handling fuse protection tweeter heat circuit breaker Nice hookups via banana plugs or bare wire ends Good depth and dynamics of music Good cabinet construction

Weakness:

None that I've noticed.

As mentioned above, I got one pair in 1996 as a highschool graduation gift. I used to power them on a Techniques 5-channel pro-logic reciever. Roughly 80 watts per speaker. Now i run 4 of them, on a Pyramid PA-800x power amplifier. The percision of the sound has increased with the new amp. But ever since I had my initial pair, they have been out of this world! Deep down ultra low clean bass! and the mids and highs are great for all styles of music I've found. If I ever decide to go nuts and build at 16 speaker system, I'd buy 6 more pairs of these babies! :) I've loved them since the day I hooked them up. I've heard many speakers in my day, but I'm still impressed with Cerwin Vega RE-30's.

Similar Products Used:

Those are the only Cerwin Vega speakers I have used. I see no reason to change now. Only thing I may ever upgrade to in a living room setting would be the Cerwin Vega tower speakers with 2 15" woofers, 5 inch mid, and 1 inch dome tweeter. But those take alot of power. Cerwin Vega RE's give you the best bang for your buck, litteraly :)
