Strength:

Bargin beyond belife Great highs Handles mids without glitch Good bass, best I've heard from home speakers, but I'm used to 1000 RMS subwoofers... Great imaging speaker, perfect for 5.1 and high energy / techno music with lots of channel mixes.. Backed by a warrenty friendly company... (Many times overlooked, I personally have not invoked them on their warrenty department on any items, also a good note, but I've heard they are very buyer friendly and will warrent a fix and sometimes and upgrade for CV products)

Weakness:

It does look pretty ugly IMO, it's clean cut, but ugly.... A little light in the weight department, it's shy of 50 lbs while housing a 12" driver... Hard to place effectively in a small room (I haven't reviewed other speaker placements but they said 1' away from back wall and 1.5' away from side wall, and 6' away from each other, so theres a TON of gap space around the speaker in it's proper position... Make sure you have the space to accomodate... (they still work wonders if you don't)

First off, I'm not a full blown audiophile but I know my numbers and know my ears... I'm more a car audio fantic than home audio since you get more power, WAY more power in car audio... I don't come to expect much from home audio since the amps are so wimpy most of the time (ones I can get my hands on at least) But I must say these speakers put up a good fight in my music tastes... I run these through your typical 100 x 5 home theater receiver, and I listen to music through the optical out from my changer and I must say that they handle the highs VERY well, clean crisp and clear. The mids didn't dissapoint, but those are usually the easiest to reproduce. The lows however is very contraversial... Since I come from a car audio background, the bass I must say didn't impress me, BUT!! These speakers provided a bass in which dissapointed me the least sort of say... Without the help of a subwoofer (although a speaker with a 12" woofer is generally a sub that can play mids and highs) these speakers provide great bass notes... They are really good for imaging too, even though I'm setup sitting off from the sweet spot most of the time, I can still hear the effects of stereo mix in most of my music tracks very clearly... I do however setup myself in the sweet spot for movies and they do a superb job... You do need a pretty big room to place these speakers in the recommened area provided by CV though... I have these in my bed room and the room is big but I have too much clutter of other things to put them in the recommened spots. (affecting bass response) I can only speculate what they sound like with 300 watts going through them since I only run them with 100... Since I haven't tested the speaker to it's limit in higher volumes I must give them a 4 out of 5 since they are the best speakers I've heard yet without the help of a subwoofer... I favor full towers that can handle bass more than 6.5 dual speaker setup towers that can't handle bass... I would say they are a great bargin buy, since you get a true 3 way that handles very well all it's own and this is the newest gen CV so you're getting all the new gizmos like the new woofer with EXT and upgraded mids n tweets as well... Another side note I like about the speaker is that they have the mids in it's own seperate chamber within the main tower, this has been stated I think on their site and on the manual, if I'm wrong someone please correct me... But the advantage of this is that the mids won't be affected by the air flow of the woofer and this gives more tight / accurate response for your mid which otherwise would be greatly affected by the 12" driver pushing all that air...

Strength:

Good sound and power handling for the price. Beats my Infinity RS 4's

Weakness:

Mid to high cross overs do not seem seamless to me when listening closely. May be a defective tweater.

I generally like the sound reproduction and volume capability. I currently run these with a Sunfire Theathre Grand III and ADCOM GFA AMP. I have listened to all types of music on them at all kinds of volume levels and have noticed a little added distortion at the high mid to low high frequency transition on some tracks (Particulary on clean distorted rock-a-billy and some on our vocals at very high volume). I am currently awaiting a replacement tweater (as the sound seems to follow one tweater when swapped). This was noticed on dat one and I believe it was a defective tweater.

Strength:

After 18 months of hard use the lows are still solid and the highs are still tight!!

Weakness:

The wife doesn't like the size? Go figure.

These are a descent set of mains. I have a relatively small living room, and they are not over-bearing, yet not for the faint either. It took some time to get them broke in, over all I am pleased and do not regret the purchase. I paid only $300 for the pair at a local stereo shop, they were clearing them out for the small stuff so much in demand by those who don't have a clue what a big speaker has to offer.

Strength:

They can play really loud and the bass performence of these speakers is amazing for this price range! The treble and mid will do the job fairly. The look is improved! Works exelent with Trance/Tecno and Rock. Will do a fair job with Classic and jazz.

Weakness:

I would like to have a bigger soundstage and a smoother mid and treble but I cant get everything for only 480$

OK, I am talking about the new serie from Cerwin Vega called V series! Go to www.cerwinvega.com and check it out! I bought a pair of V-12F at my local hi-fi store for 480$. These are some awsome speakers that plays bass just like other Cerwin Vega speakers EVEN better! Ok to be realisic these speakers does not play as loud like CW`s AL-series, but they play louder than the E-series , because of the new EX(tm) Extended-throw High-output Woofer Technology that produces more bass for "live" dynamics at realistic listening levels. This is an extended upgrade from other CW`s products. Even the mid and treble has been upgraded! Compared to the E-series gives the V-series a clearer mid and treble performence. The V-series can also play a bit louder and the bass will go even deeper! My V-12 is hoocked up to my Nad C370 This combination gives a exelent performence if you like to listen to music loud ,and the overal sound is not that bad either to come from CW :) If you like classic and jazz there is better alternatives then this combo. In my case there are no other alternatives that gives this amazing bass performence in this price range! So if you like music loud with lot of bass then go for these speakers , you wont get disappointed! The mid and treble will also do a fair job!

Strength:

Large speakers with a large sound to match. Robust bass - which is balanced by a crisp top end and respectable presence across the mid-band. Durable contruction is a major plus in this day of cheaper and cheaper mass-market speakers. Can sound quite respectable when used with respectable electronics. Good resale value.

Weakness:

With blazing efficiency (98db/w/m) comes a loss of low-level detail. A non-issue when clean, high volume is your first priority. I would like to see more adjustment range on the midrange and tweeter (just a 2 position rotary switch is used for each). While not a direct weakness, for those who want a lot of sound on a budget - these aren't the best match to the typical receivers sold today... they will reveal the receiver's shortcomings.

Like them or hate them - you truly have to respect CV speakers for what they really have to offer. Few speakers on the current market offer a combination of high efficiency, robust bass and tremendous power handling as a CV. This is where I have gained serious respect for the classic design CV products despite my audiophile background. Sometimes a nice smoooth pair of monitors just can't cut it - that was the case with my garage workshop system. Most older "muscle speakers" sound like crud, or are worth a fortune even on the used market. So I went in search of a pair of classic CV's... and I found a deal I could not pass up. E712's on display at Sears, marked down to $275... less 10% for being the display samples. COOL! The sound is true, classic CV! Robust, tighly controlled bass that can extend deep, a full - rather forward midrange presence and crisp treble. Overall these speakers do what you want them to do - if you don't want pounding bass, don't crank the bass level! If you want to do damage - crank the bass! They sound however you want them to sound, just like the true high-end speakers on the market. What sets CV apart from purist audio is "inner detail" - or lack of it. If you want an ultra-detailed speaker - these are not for you. If you want a pleasing, dynamic speaker to fill a large room with large sound... with or without a subwoofer, these do the job. Important suggestion: Don't expect much out of these with a ho-hum "100w x 5" receiver. These play best with better electronics - and are indeed quite revealing of limitations found in poor electronics. I use a decent 1970s era receiver with a REAL 50w/ch on tap.

Strength:

Cerwin Vega as a name, looks, sound.

Weakness:

Midrange seems to degrade at high wattage, although so does my spouse and pet - they both leave.

Very strong response, they like power, the bass is "Heart" felt, and the treble is "Tingling" crisp.

Strength:

Lots of bass. Sound prity good fuse system. Dont cost a lot or money.

Weakness:

so much bass that you will have to replace your windows because thy broke. They will keep the police at your door.

Do you like bass well go with cerwin vega. These E-712 speakers are very nice I had some 450 watts 12" speakers and these are 300 watts 12". My old speakers didn't not have as much bass as the cerwins or sound as good and guess what they cost alot more about 3 x more. The cerwins are good for almost evey kind of music.

Strength:

Plays insanely loud without distorting.(I have broken things) Very, very sensitive. Very high power handling. Above average sound quality. ONLY $400!

Weakness:

The midrange hit a certain fequency where there is some sort of resonance in the midrange chamber. I recomend changing the insulation to fiberfill for the midrange.

All around good speaker for listeners who love LOUD mousic. Very extended bass response, 98 db sensitivity. Rated at 300 watts, I have been running over 500 for over a year with no problems.
