I bought these as part of a second system because they are finished so nicely. Sound quality comparisons are with my Proac Tablette Sig's in my main system. Compared with the Proacs, the bass is deeper, but looser, the high are rolled off, and the soundstage is further away. Although not as "exciting" to listen to, they nonetheless are very satisfying musically. If you have bright components, these will tone down the top end a bit. Nice wood finishes too.

I agree with the previous review. The speakers are indeed very musical and for people who likes an easy and smooth sound, they are really good. They has quite a broad and controlled soundstage as well. They filled up my 5x4m room adequately with an NAD C320 (40 watts) amplifier. They require about 50 hrs of run-in. I would also like to comment on the build of the speakers. I would say the real wood finish are excellent. The build makes the speaker look slim and elegant, more speakers should be built this way. I would give a 5-STAR for the build & 4-STAR for sound (because of the relatively high price).

Strength:

Very clean, real sound. Rich bass and piercing treble. Beautiful timber.

Weakness:

Very expensive

I have owned these speakers for about 3 years now and have always been disapointed with them, until recently.

I purchased these based on their performance at the shop. Pluged into my Sony STR-D1090 at home they couldn't handle any volume or bass without distortion.

Recently I have tried the Sony 9000ES series amp and pre-amp combination so highly recommended by other reviewers. After wiring it all in, sitting back and flicking my remote I was left sitting in the middle of my lounge floor with my mouth wide open. The sound was awesome. I began swapping CD's from Anastacia and Toni Childs to the Soundtrack from Titanic and Vanessa Mae. Every CD sounded the way they should. I was overwhelmed with the clarity and freshness. I ended up removing all EQ and found the speakers were balanced enough to reproduce everything you would expect to hear. They handled as much volume as I dared without annoying my neighbours too much.

I then tried my DVD collection. While the better amp improved things greatly, they still were not stong enough for the openning battle scenes in Gladiator. The sub is very necessary as I feel these speakers are more suitable for music rather than home theatre use.

But hey, now I am being really picky. Given their size they perform extremely well with the right amp and pre-amp. I guess that proves once again that any review of any product has to be balanced with the quality and suitability of the rest of the audio equipment hooked up.

The only reason I dropped a star off the rating is price. These speakers are way too expensive.

I bought these as a replacement for my PSB600i set, because I'm starting a new life as a grad student and, well, I no longer have the space that affords the luxury of floorstanding speakers. I compared these speakers with a pair of Monitor Audio speakers, and these won hand-down. They have an amazing amount of low end for an enclosure this size, though a subwoofer would most definitely get me some of the low end I liked so much in the PSBs.
They are a bit pricey for bookshelves, but worth every penny for their beautiful finish and wonderful sound. They image fantastically and represent their frequency range with incredible accuracy and smoothness.

They're keepers.
