This system not only lacks high, low bass and low mid-range sound but also gives very poor sound imaging
and staging (in fact, flat). They are far inferior to
my favorite B&W 302, NHT SuperZero (with Subwoofer),
Boston Acoustics VR40 and Genesis 400.

However, in the world of the sound system for computers,
WalkMan systems and boomboxes, after weighting its
price of $100, I give it 4 stars (even though 1 star
from the first paragraph). :)

I just wonder why don't CSW make a better sound system
for a computer at the reasonable price in China like
this PCWorks? I mean the system of tweeters, bigger
midrange drivers (as in Ensemble III).

This powered satellite/sub system can be connected to anything with a 1/8 inch stereo jack such as awalkman, portable CD player or, of course, a personal computer with a sound card. They sound amazingly
good for the price. I'd definitely recommend them. On Christmas morning I was surfing the Web while jammin'
to Stevie Ray!

Well, they've got great lows. Obviously, there is very little midrange PUNCH because of the sub/satellite format. HOWEVER, I connected two JBL Pro Computer speakers, two Sony 5" woofers AND two Sharp mini-monitors to the sub by crossing the wires at the sub output. The result - room filling sound for $100. Can't go wrong there.

Better sound than anything else for $100, but no deep bass, no lower midrange, cannot play loud, but sounds relatively smooth and clean.

I have both the CSW PCWorks, and the Microworks. The Microworks, can be purchased for $200, and the PCWorks, for $50. On a comparison, the Microworks is, obviously better. And, in my opinion, the best computer speaker setup possible, when only 2 satelites are desired. However, in the realm of price, and value, the PCWorks is MUCH more bang for the buck. Offering near Microworks quality, at only $50...I would recommend this speaker setup to anyone who loves music, and is on a budget. This is an amazing product at $50...there's nothin else, for this price, that even comes close....Bravo, Cambridge.

I was just looking for a pair of surround speakers for my SBlive, Currently the main speakers are Labtec lcs3210 + Altec lansing acs150 subwoofer. i bought them for 52$ in the factory outlet , Newton Ma , brand new (not refurbished). Those speakers should be in the audio dictionary near the definition "Most bang-for-bucks". They have terrific high and lows, true they lack a bit midrange but overall they are terrific ( I'm using my PC mainly for playing CDs and MP3).
The satellites are connected with spring-clips to the subwoofer which make it very easy to extend the wires ( too bad the wires are hooked to the satellite with permanent connection - so replacing the whole wires is hard).
The general quality (Again, considering the rock-bottom price) is very good there is no case resonance in normal listening levels.

FOLKS!
This is a $50 set of speakers! Boomy bass, distortion at high levels? These listeners are either deaf or are using bad source equipment. It has a volume knob on the headphones cord which plugs into the source. If the source volume is set too high, well, of course you will get distortion at high levels with the speaker volume set high! It's best to set the source volume 1/4 to 1/2 of capacity, then adjust the speaks to your desired listening level.

For that amount of money, they are among the best values available ANYWHERE at ANY price.

The highs are clean, midranges defined. The sub requires some attention when first connected, and should be placed with care so as to not get a muddy or boomy sound. But once you've placed the sub, set the bass level just right using source material with which you are familiar, and spread the satellites, you have a downright listenable package.

They are wonderful for offices, or for places where space is extremely limited. Simply plugging the 1/8" jack into the headphones connector on any piece of partable equipment instantly turns the set (a boom box, walkman, soundcard, etc.) into a high quality sound system. For $50 - you CANNOT go wrong.

Do yourself a favor - unless you're looking to spend 3X as much for bigger, bulkier, more expensive equipment, get these.

Okay, you have to admit. For 3pcs of speaker @ <$50, they are okay. I personally have the PCWorks, the 5.1 PC Works Dolby Digital, and also the FourPointSurround.
I can tell you right now, the PC Works that I have, the sub driver is blown. These sub can't take high volume at sustain time frame.

I'll probably open up the sub unit, and check the driver is its made out of paper. Because they sound like sh*t. It's muddy.

Anyway, I have to give it for a 3 star, if it wasn't for the low price, I would have given it a 2.

I have the PC works and the Microworks. The microworks Blow them away big time... The pc works are really not that powerful at all, and you can do much better go with some altec alansing power cubes. But still, pcworks are no where near the microworks.

I paid about 60$ for this set which I bought as a replacement for my Labtec LCS-2623's. When I first hooked 'em up, I cranked the bass and played some chili peppers and was dissappointed. However, my roomate suggested moving the woofer to a better location (It was on a shelf next to my desk so I moved it under my desk to the left of the left speaker). Wow! what a difference. I didn't think placement was such a big deal but this little sub sounds twie as good on the ground. It's also fun to play a loud game or music with your foot on the sub, then you really get to feel the bass. If you want some decent sound, cheap, look no further. I'm sure you can find this unit for less the 50$ somewhere.
