Excellent High, Great Mid Response, Tight Clean Bass, Sleek Design

I upgraded my system from the System 9000 to the system outlined above. Amazing improvement. With the VR 950’s, I’m hearing things I have never heard before. The highs are unbelievable, with a very smooth mid range all blended perfectly with its ability to play smooth tight bass.

The 950’s are a very musical speakers and in home theater they take on a new life all together, a quality of the speaker that was very important to me, the ability to sound good in movie and music mode. Also, they sound consistently solid at both high and low volumes. I am currently running 125 watts of power through them with my Denon AVR 4800.

I went back and forth between the small and large setting on my receiver and found that the 950’s are quite capable of playing a full range sound (large setting) without bottoming out on the lower bass tones or sacrificing the mids as a result. In addition, their footprint is very small and takes up very little room.

100% recommendation, these speakers are the best fronts speakers you can get for the price range and I listened to a lot of speakers at this price including Klipsch (too bright), Paradigm (dull sound), Polk Audio (too bright, Circuit City Garbage), and Bose (not even worth mentioning).

Worth mentioning that the VR 950's need a good amount of clean power to sound their best.

Strength:

Fits in small rooms, narrow base, binding posts

Weakness:

quality, sound, price,

What happened to the bass? Sub a must! Good thing I only paid 400.00 , not worth the retail of 700-800, works so-so with music or concert dvd but has mid volumes rattle? no bass which rules out home theater use, won't handle mid-high volume ranges of DVD movies, you are buying the name and not getting quality that you would see with Polk. design and construction very poor, Only reason I bought was salesman swore he used the same and loved it? Comission sales! DO not pay more than 200-300 on-line not worth 700-800! Check out polk or high end mission.

Strength:

Stunning highs, superb midrange, suprisingly strong bass

Weakness:

Can't think of any

Outstanding. After comparing the Bostons to NHT, Monitor, and Definitive Tech., these brands sounded fuzzy. The VR950s reproduce trumpets, cymbols, and violins with stunning clarity (I think the AMD device on tweeter is key). The midrange is excellent as well (so long as they are judged after 8 hours of burn-in time). The bass, which reaches 47 Hz at -3 db, is sufficient for playing music and movies in my apartment. However, those with larger rooms may need a sub.

I bought this particular model of Boston's because I beleive that they are the best value in the Boston line. Since the VR950 uses the same woofer and tweeter as the VRM-50 (msrp $700/pr.) and the Micro100x (msrp $650/pr.) it is by far the best deal. Not only do the VR950s have two woofers in each speaker, but they are floorstanding as well (this saved me about $100 because I didn't have to buy stands). Furthermore, due to the VR950's incredibly large chamber and down-firing port, the bass response is superior to both the VRM-50 and Micr100x.

I initially planned on getting the PV600 sub, but I'm satisfied with the bass response. Instead, I plan on getting the VR910 center channel, which uses the same drivers as the VR950.

I got mine for $630/pair- a fair price.

Strength:

Very clear; Affordable

Weakness:

None

After listening to the speakers listed above, I picked the Boston Acoustics because I felt this pair had the clearest and best sound. These speakers cost only $700 and it totally blew away the Infinity and Polk speakers priced at $1,000! Energy was a good pair, but the Boston Acoustics were clearly better. The $750 KEF speakers had the same clarity, but the Boston had much better bass. I use these speakers as stereo speakers hooked up to my Harman Kardon AVR 500 receiver and it sounds great for all types of music. The clarity for these $700 pair of speakers is amazing, and the bass is great for heavy metal. I can crank these speakers all the way up without hearing any cracks. Basically, I love these speakers and for its $700 price tag, they were worth every penny.
