Strength:

clean sound,good for surround.

Weakness:

so many that i cant even count.

ok. these speaker sucks, but i want to talk about some experiment that me and my brother did with two pair of acoustimaas3.we took two small units for back wall and two for the front, one sub in front right corner and one sub directly to us in the front wall.
the result for this kind of speaker was pretty amaising, the bass was ok(two subs),the surround and live preformans were really exiting and let the music drive my emotions.
all of this was made with one old pioneer integrated amp from the seventees and harman hd7400 cd.
if you bought this speaker and regretting now maybe try to add another pair and see what happens.

Strength:

tiny cubes, hidden sub, good wide range sound

Weakness:

speaker placement is crucial

considering the cubes are about the size of a rubiks cube the sound generated is highly impressive. Obviously having a routed sub system is going to cause a little loss in sound response..
obviously a $200-300 set of speakers aren't going to sound exactly like a liver orchestra

for the size and cost these speakers perform well.. and as the saying goes the speakers are only as good as the amp that drives them.
I've had this system for about 8 weeks now and have found that much of the criticism about bose products is decidedly undeserved.
excellent sound (in small - mid size rooms), functional and they dont show pony like most floor stands

Strength:

Size, placement options, virtually invisible

Weakness:

Sound is somewhat thin

I bought the AM3 setup for our bedroom. I know what everyone thinks of Bose and I am not a big fan myself. However, I am a fair person and therefore felt compelled to make this post.
Considering the size and cost of these speakers, I would say the AM3 system sounds very good in our bedroom (16 x 17 with vaulted ceilings)
I have the cubes placed 8' high at the far corners of the room, and the bass module behind our headboard.
I did demo the system in my living room and was very disappointed, but that was probably because I just had the sub sitting next to my audio cabinet.
If you are in a pinch for small, white speakers, I'd give them a shot, they may fit your application perfectly.

Strength:

Small Size

Weakness:

high highs, high bass (at about 200 Hz)

The only really great thing I can say about these are their size. Granted, pretty good sound comes from this small set of speakers, but I think they'll be a bad choice to any music enthusiast. The problems come from the speaker size and cross-overs. Ths small satellites produce good treble, but lack in the lows (around 150-250 Hz) and the highs (above 15 kHz). The passive sub, with cross-over at 150 Hz, is far from omni-directional. It might have just been the room setup, but I could easily tell where the passive sub was, and it sounded a bit "boomy."

I was very dissatisfied, and returned them after a week. I spent $90 more and replaced them with the Infinity set-up above- the two RS2000.2s and the BU-1 sub. The RS2000.2s were a lot smoother in the bass region, and the sub added the thump if you wanted it.

Strength:

They sound decent.......provided that you have a good receiver to drive the passive sub.

Weakness:

WAY overpriced.

Overall, not a bad sounding surround upgrade, but most will find the price prohibitive. $250 is a lot to pay for two cubes and a passive sub.

Purchased in tandem with the AM-7 module (see review) with my Sony 1015 Prologic receiver as surround speakers about 4 years ago. For that feature (at 20W on the Surround Channel) they functioned adequately.
I have recently upgraded to a Sony TA-E9000ES and TA-N9000ES Pre-Amp/Amp combo and they are now the surround channel for this setup in a Dolby Digital (AC3) Environment.

They do fair well as surround speakers in this setup. With the lack of bass very apparent in the AM-7 with it's passive sub it is really hard to determine if these speakers are functioning well for their intent as surrounds. They do shine now at the 120W p/c vs the Prologic 20W that was my previous receiver. Unfortunatley they are directional so you have to point them at your listening area and can't take advantage of them as 'background' noise if you were to have dipole speakers. I've been told if you use the AM5s as rear channels you can aim them oppisite directions of each other to make them 'sorta' dipole speakers.

I'm currently looking at upgrading to the M&K line of speakers to replace these for my DVD AC3/DTS viewing (& CD Listening) pleasure.

Strength:

Good stereo image, relatively uncoloured sound

Weakness:

Passive bass inadaquate

I used these speakers initially for stereo listening purposes. When I moved up to DVD home theatre I found that the bass was just not sufficient. I added an active sub woofer. I enjoy the sound of these units and also the fact that they are unobtrusive.

Strength:

Small, stylish

Weakness:

Overpriced, not overly powerful, sound fatigues after continued listening

Got these to please the wife as they are stylish and un-obstrusive. Sounded great in the store, but did not sound as well at home (have no idea why). Yes, placed sub in the corner, but that was not the problem. Seems that certain low to midrange frequencies are weak. Highs are definitely clear, but the sound gets weary after continued listening. Lacks punch and mid range crispness. Passive sub has obvious shortcomings and is muddy. It is obviously true that Bose refuses to publish any specs on these (or any) units which is most suspicious. Was going to check performance out on the equalizer graphics readout with white noise, but decided to return them first; they just don't measure up.

Tried them as dolby prologic surround satellites where they performed somewhat better. They are a bit too directional for this purpose, and are far from overpowering, but they did look great on the wall with the optional (ouch!) mounts.

Going to try the Cambridge Soundworks dipole switchable units for less $$$.
