Weakness:

Speaker location may need experimenting

The setup of these cubes is critical to their sound. The room dynamics also play into this due to the direct/reflecting sound that they are designed to produce.

Yeah, I too like the MagnaPlanar, Martin-Logans and all the
other high end gear, I might buy some later for music listening, but those suckers take over your room! and cost
about 2,400 for 2 spkrs, let alone a home-theater setup.

You cannot beat the satellite setup, and if done right they sound great. The powered sub can really rock the place, and I started to hear music I did not hear before with my old Cerwin-Vega lizard killers.

I have a new amp with 130w per channel and you do NOT need as much equalization with these speakers, you may have to play a bit with them before you get the setting to where you like them. I discovered bass I did not hear before, the highs are smooth and roll off the top smoothly, never tinny of hissing.

Just to satisfy myself, I'm going to get a friend to bring his audio measuring gear and we'll test them, just to settle the issue.

Take 'em home, try them, retest a few setups/amp settings, and if you don't like them return them & get you money back.

These DO have better range than what most reviewers here give them. Go check them out yourself.
They are great for DVD and you can have room for that big screen.

When you carefully read all reviews, you will see, that most of them are made by people, who actually never bought AM-15. I made small statistics about these all reviews, and look what I've noticed:
But first some statistics details:

"Casual" "Enthusiast" "Audiophile"
reviews: 18 116 42
total pt.: 45 326 86 (overall stars)
average: 2,50 2,81 2,05
num. of reviews made by each group:
* 7 44 27
* * 3 12 3
* * * 2 11 2
* * * * 4 20 3
* * * * * 2 29 7

Well, as you can clearly see, most of the reviews is negative (one * -star), but overall score is more then 2,50 that is: 2,60 . The "Average Rating 2.47 from the top of the screen is different because, some reviews are multiplied, for example Mr. placed the same review 12 times, shame on you! Most of the people who had deal with AM-15 are "Enthusiast". The fact is that the lowest score comes from so called "audiophiles" - 2,05 pt. They give the worst scores. Well, audiophile-guys, if home theatre is something worth your attention, yours reviews are not adequate to something what is called "real theatre sound field" that is close to real movie “sound field “ in real cinema.
Also do not be upset looking at "*" (single star) reviews. People who never had AM-15 in their home write most of them. As I said in my last review, you can't expect good results, when listening AM-15 in store, you have to set them up correctly in your home for best performance.

OK. Finally I went to the SONY store and borrowed (what a nice salesman, isn't it!) newest SA-VE815ED system to compare it with AM-15.And what I experienced while watching DVD movies with these speakers was:
- too "sharp" high frequency sound from surrounds (after 5 minutes of watching "Gladiator" I was almost deaf, so I had to turn the "treble" knob to min, but after this I felt complete lack of high tones)
- nice, but simply "technician" bass (no comparison to AM-15 bass module)
- what happened with "sound space" ? - I don't know, maybe someone of you tell me

Well folks, that's it ! As many of viewers said: "AM-15 are made for home theatre, not for "audiophile" stereo reproductions". I agree with that with one exception, that AM-15 is good for all DVD based multichannel sound reproductions and If You do not believe me, go get some DVD's with concerts or opera's and You will get a new experience of entertaining yourself in privacy of your own home.

Accessories are exxy.

Hi all,

Despite what many reviews say below (obvously written by one person under different names) these unit ARE very good. Especially for home theatre.

I'm not an audiophile but I still expect great sound from my equipment. I also live in a small townhouse and found my large DA speakers not suitable. After looking AND listening around I found the Bose a comparable product for the price. Some sounded better some worse. The size and styling of the Bose WERE a selling point for me especially considering their excellent sound.

I'm very happy with my purchase. I don't undestand why some people are so keen to put them down and simply lie about their sound....?

Cheers.

Strength:

Great flexibility in mounting the satellite speakers - UHF Remote controls - Dual zone UHF capability.

Weakness:

Price - Flexibility in mixing and matching colors (sub) - Sound quality - Weak sub woofer - Customer service

The Bose is an OK home theater system. It provides adequate sound for movies, but it fails miserably when put to the test with stereo music. I own both the Bose AM-15 and the Lifestyle 25 systems. While they are adequate, I must say that the Polk 6600 system with the PSW 350 sub absolutely outperforms the AM-15 and the Lifestlye 25 in every facet. I just purchased the Polk, and I cannot believe the difference. The only thing that I like better about the Bose is the fact that I can use the UHF remote from my pool deck. The Bose system is OK... but the Polk is cheaper and gives you much more listening value. I will keep the Lifestyle 25... but only as a secondary system for my children's playroom. Bose does have an incredible marketing scheme... but the words and pictures don't equal the performace claims of their advertising propaganda.

After reading many of the negative reviews here, we were really leaning towards floor speakers. Although the Acoustimass 15s sounded as good as the myriad other speakers we listened to before making our decision, we were concerned that the speakers would not cut it in our living room (22' x 30' with a cathedral ceiling).

Because we were concerned about children destroying the floor speakers, we decided to buy them (thinking we would return them if we had a problem), along with a Yamaha 5280 receiver. Everything sounds great. The subwoofer gives of plenty of bass (unlike with the 10 series) and the music coming off of cds and dvds sounds phenomenal, even when just using the front speakers in non-surround sound.

Most of what we listen to is jazz, classical, and alternative, so we we don't crank them to the level that others might, but for what we were looking for, they are perfect.

Visually attractive and unobtrusive.

Can be slightly heavy in the midbass.
Lacks richness in the baritone vocal range.

Touche', my friends. Anyone know of a speaker/stand combination that is equivalent to Bose? After hearing some nice new Klipsch's that my friend bought, I'm sold on something better.

Strength:

Almost as powerful as my 50$ advent computer speakers

Weakness:

They have already been listed below

I will tell you the truth. I am not an all out Audiophile like some of you, but I can tell the difference between Making a smart decision and making a dumb decision. I continually wonder how are these speakers being sold. Is Bose so suave and cunning that they can TOTALLY, I mean COMPLETELY brainwash people that these speakers are worth 1200.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can someone waste such money. If you want to send me $1200 dollars, I will give you my 50watt computer speakers. I will even pay for the shipping and handling myself;) Anyways I am not bashing bose. But I promise you all, for %50 of there price you can get radio shack speakers better then this crap. Go to www.klipsch.com. For a $100 more you can make your living room into a Virtual Sound Stage.(maybe not that much). But, hopefully you get the picture. Don't be fooled by bose. There setups in the store are built specifically to sound good. If you want to spend $1200, you might as well spend a few grand building a bose hometheater living room while you are at it. Or at least give the mone to me. I am a poor college student and I got a few dinky speakers laying around that I think can beat out the mighty powerful unstopable bose speakers.

Strength:

cubed-design makes for easy and non-space-consuming disposal in your garbage, subwoofer acts as boat anchor for small fishing canoes. bose vendors can be found in all acclaimed "high-end audio" stores including target, walmart, sears, best buy, fry's, and circuit city-- hah!

Weakness:

hmmm, how about the bio-gradeable paper-cone subwoofer with matching paper-cone tweeter/midrange-in-one satellites, the lack of bass extention in the woofer (roll-off at 50Hz), clock radio quality sound, inflated price tag, high frequency roll off at 12Hz (-3db) with strong emphasis on 7Hz to give the illusion of full range sound. boomy, sloppy bass response of 50Hz-250Hz from the cheap sub housed in low-grade particle board with no internal woofer bracing, frequncy gap of about 200Hz between satellites and the so-called subwoofer, fixed-pricing, though every higher bose series costs hundreds more, you will find they are ALL built with the same components and materials.

any bose proponents feel very free to defend these or ANY bose speakers or system. these things are pure un-adulterated horse terds. i can build a complete system that will outperform the am15 at 1/4 the cost. the 2 inch paper cone satellites are too big to faithfully reproduce highs, and too small to reproduce mids, the paper cone sub is garbage that only reproduces 50-250Hz in a sloppy, noisy way as it is housed in perhaps the most cheap enclosure imagineable with no bracing of the woofer. all of bose's alleged prestige comes from its monster of a marketing machine who spend countless millions on advertisements and promotion rather than r&d and materials. this unit doesn't even deserve the ONE STAR that im giving it. my parting advise to anyone seriously considering buying this unit is: DO NOT BUY BOSE!
