Strength:

The only multi-purpose speakers that can be used on videoke and make your voice sound to good to be true not to harsh on high''s and not blur on low voice. can survive a harsh environent of a microphone.

Weakness:

price

Its quite wondering why people who comment negative on BOSE still buy BOSE, afterall this system is not quite good for a so called "Audiophile", but its quite pleasurable listening to it, well its a bit over priced, but why post it here, if your are truly a courageful technical bum, as I may speak, why dont you e-mail BOSE to do the job right and give your true name, who know''s they might even hire you as their engineer for your talent. enough of this so called technical people, for me still this AM15 is quite good its the only speakers you can use for VIDEOKE. I dare you to put your so called high-end speakers into test, hook it up for Videoke and tell me if it can survive the massive "plik-plok" and "feedback" of microphone, I tell you I''ve seen high end tweeters destroyed by a microphone feedback, anyway why be technical, did you bought those speaker for your personal test lab or for listening pleasure? its up to you, but for me its a multi-purpose speaker, its good on music, home theater & specially for Videoke and my friends starts coming back at my home, because their voice sound good with a combination of yamaha RXV-995, AM15, Pioneer DVD 525 and a mic-mixer well its always the heart of the party and they envy me... SYSTEM: Sony Wega 34" Flat TV Yamaha RXV-995 Pioneer 525 DVD player Bose AM15 Lexus digital mic mixer Shure SM58 Monster Optical cable Monster S-video Silver speaker cables Note:when playing a Videoke to sound good put it on Hall DSP of the Yamaha and set you parameters on the mic mixer (e.g. echo, reverb, intensity, delay etc.)

Strength:

Size, overall sound quality. Build quality. Simple cabling in looms.

Weakness:

Not as good for general music reproduction.

I am probably going to put the cat amongst the pidgeons here as I thought I already had the best possible movie speaker system. I replaced my old system with the Bose Acoustimas 15 "cubes", because my theater is tight on space. It''s only 14 by 15 feet. My old system was a Meridian Digital Theater, based on a 565 processor, 5 digital active M33 speakers and a big Yamaha sub. The front end was, and still is, my trusty Sony DVP - S7700. I have to say here and now, that the quality of the Meridian system was awsome, but the size of speakers (and they are small compared to some) made it impossible to mount behind the sitting / viewing position. Also as each speaker is "active", it required a mains supply at every speaker. All cabling had to be done seperately to prevent the mains from interfering with the signal leads, which were fed by high quality 5 pin din plugs. I was sad to see the system go, but sold it to finance my new video projector. When I first auditioned the Bose system at home I was amased at the "large" warm sound that I heard. The highs were very crisp, and the sub provides a non-coloured bass, which is as loud as my old Yamaha sub, which is twice the size. I will agree with some other peoples reviews in that the soundstage in some music can be a little hollow in places, but for the money, I can''t fault it. My Meridian Digital Theatre cost me £10k all in. This cost me £2k with my Yamaha AV amp. I run the Bose off a Yamaha DSP-A1, which is way too powerful for my listening room, but its well suited to the Bose setup. The bass output is not excessive like it was with my Yamaha. It seems more natural. Finally I do not profess to be an audiophile, but I am a musician, and these speakers do produce very musical sounds. Overall, I think they''re excellent and I would buy again.

great way to thin your wallet... if that is your goal I mean

Weakness:

just looking at them, I spottedabout 10 different design flaws, such as absolutely terrible materials and quality just to name a couple, I dont want to get technical and start talking about sound projection and transperency, so I wont

I was absolutely disgusted with these speakers. I asked what kind of a soundstage these speakers had, the sales person said, "quite intersting..." I thought to myself, well no kidding it''s interesting, but what does that tell me? then I listened to these speakers, and she was right, "interesting" indeed, THERE WASN''T ANY SOUNDSTAGE!!! The sounds were so two dimensional it was quite astounding of how plain and boring the sound was. I have literaly heard better sounding alarm clocks. Very very poor sound reproduction and imaging, very small frequency band, and unrealistic ''timbre'' very crappy speakers, the audition lasting not even three minutes and that was already enough, I just got up and left, and never looked at bose speakers again. The scary part is, is that, these speakers were their top of the line ones. Absolutely horrid transperency, ( you can find them extremely well, interesting of how their size makes you think that they''re very unnoticeable, but with their sound, you notice there exact location within about 2 seconds of listening. Ironic huh?

Strength:

Weakness:

Everything Else... Poor Highs, Lows, Mids; Poor Build Quality; Poor Value (need I say more?)

I have recently noticed a trend here... It seems the positive Bose reviews come from people (as a general rule) that have not heard any of the brands listed above.

Indeed, no brands are listed by most Bose Enthusiasts. When brands *are* listed, I see names like KLH and other low-fi brands that I would not touch.

My point is that I think the Bose Enthsiasts are missing a lot of good speakers out there (many from the manufacturers listed above in the "similar products used" section).

Before bashing other Audio Enthusiasts for not liking Bose speakers, like the poster below me did... At least *try* and hear some of what many consider superior brands out there before making statements like "Bose is the Best." After doing so, I will respect your opinion, even if I disagree... But listening to Bose by itself, or comparing it to brands in a Circuit City or Best Buy will most likely lead you to the wrong purchase for the money.

I would take the Definitive Technology 100.6 sub/sat system in a second over the AM-15s (without spending any more money). I bet Bose Enthusiasts would too... You just have to go out and actually *hear* the Pro Cinema system (and others) before buying Bose.

Strength:

Incredible sound.

Weakness:

Regular music.

Best home theater I have heard for the price range. Deep, deep, loud, gut churning bass. Crystal clear, piercing highes and volumnous midrange. True 3D sound. Absolutely unbelieveable when set up properly.

Couldn't be happier. Listen for youself and leave these anti-bose idiots to the more relevent task of removing their heads from a certain bodily orifice.

being a former worker at a large chain store, i was supposed to sell these horrendous speakers. people would come in without listening to anything else, and assume the bose sounded best just cuz it was heavily advertised (sounds like alot of the jabroni bose lovers in this thread)
they also assumed buying bose made them some sort of elitest. (more like a wannabe)

i would then take them over to something else, say a yamaha or energy speaker package. not ONE person said the bose sounded better. the non-bose packages were cheaper also!

i know its a cliche, but the bose am15 produce absolutly no highs and no lows...just lots of muddy midrange. as you all know, bose will not give you the specs of these speakers, they are that bad. the am15 is unacceptable for dolby digital reproduction, and even worse for music. they are extremely overpriced, and built very poor. before you buy these "speakers", at least listen to something else. dont be sold on advertising alone.

avoid like the plaque, 0 stars if possible!

GLEN THE AM 15'S ARE A PAIN IN THE NECK TO GET THE SOUND ACCURATE AND TAKES HOURS OF WORKING OUT TO GET IT TO RUN TO ITS FULL CAPACITY.AND GLEN IF YOU WHERE AT THE 1988 ACCOUSTIMASS LAUNCH, YOU WOULD HAVE EATEN YOUR WORDS.

GLEN I HAVE BEEN A AUDIOPHILE FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND IF ITS ONE THING I HAVE LEARNED,IT IS TO BE CURIES OF WHY THE DAM THING DOES NOT SOUND GOOD AND FIX IT.YOU SEE EVERY BODY IS GOOD AT COMING UP WITH THE PROBLEMS, THOUGH HOW MANY COME UP WITH THE SOLUTIONS.

GLEN I DONT SAY THE BOSE ACCOUSTIMASS IS THE BEST THOUGH FOR A SPACE SAVER IT IS NOT BAD.
IN EVERY ROOM IN MY HOUSE THERE IS HI-FI,THE BRANDS I HAVE ARE KEF,NAD,YAMAHA,JBL,JAMO,RICHTER- SPEAKERS,BOSE,B&W,SONY,PIONEER,BLAUPUNKT,MISSION KRIX,SONIQUE. MY LOUNGE ROOM THEATRE AV SYSTEM INCLUDING INSTALATION COST ME $143,987.00 AUSTRALIAN DOLLERS.

Size might be the problem as well

I've read some reviews and I've checked out the marketing hype and I don't understand. Can our ears be that different? I'm used to listening to two channel speakers in the $1000-2000 range but have heard many speakers for much less that sounded good. I wanted to buy my wife something not too expensive for the tv. She has hearing in only one ear, I in both. We agreed on the sound of this system, however.

The highs made our ears bleed (well, just one of hers), the bass just kind of went whump whump and the mids sounded like the folks on tv were speaking through tin cans. Sonically, I place these speakers a half step below what came with the tv. I can't begin to imagine how they have sold so many and how so many seemingly intelligent people can think these sound good. And for the price? Save some money and your ears and buy the cheapest B&W, Tannoy or numerous others. Listen carefully. Flush Bose down toilet because you've finally developed some listening acuity.

Please folks, don't be dumbed down by marketing. Use your ears. These things look cute but their sonics are several times bested at a third the cost. Dr Bose is laughing at you. I would too, but I'm not getting rich off your ignorance. If this site allowed us to give the number of stars I though appropriate, I'd go with negative 5000 stars for value and negative 5001 for sound. If you use sound as more than background, you need to spend some time auditioning products that will truly make you happy. I wish you luck.

Size, Powered Bass Module, Construction, Room Filling Sound

Weakness:

200 dollars more than the AM 10 for a powered Bass Module!

Half the people who review Bose speakers dont know what they are talking about. If Bose is so bad, why does Mercedes, Acura, and BMW want it in their cars? The AM15 is a good sounding system. I have owned this system for 4 months and I am satisfied with it. When powered with a good receiver, these speakers produce fine sound. I personally use a Nakamichi AV10. Half the people that review this system probably got their receiver out of a cracker jack box. Big sound=Big and powerful receiver. If you are looking to buy this system I would urge you to look into the AM10 and perhaps buy a separate powered sub. It might come out to the same money as the AM15 and you will definetely get louder and deeper bass than any AM series system produces. I dont think Bose engineers designed this system to be played with movies such as Mortal Kombat, rather I think they had something like Notting Hill in mind. I say this because the AM15 bass module is good but I wouldnt compare it to my friend's BU-120. 5 1/4 inch drivers simply dont produce ground shaking bass. If cyrstal clear highs matched with clean adequate bass is for you, then you will like this system. If you like thunderous bass, I suggest you select the AM10 w/ a powered subwoofer. I Give it 4 stars
