Well, well, well. 223 REVIEWS in total !
What a score ! This is almost the greatest number of reviews of all speakers reviewed on this site. When I saw that I had to try these speakers by myself. And... I was amazed by them.
Good speakers, maybe a little overpriced. Almost good bargain.

Strength:

Good-looking, small system blends well into the room. Easy to set-up.

Weakness:

Overpriced. Lacks full, rich sound required for music.

I am a complete novice when it comes to audio components, but I will try and be as helpful as I can regarding my experience with this product.

I bought the Bose system from Crutchfield for about $1200.00 along with the Polk RM7500 system so that I could try each of them and keep the one I liked best(by the way, I think its well worth the extra $ to go with Crutchfield for audio components because of the great customer support - especially if you are a novice like me). As for the Bose system, I thought it was incredibly easy to setup (virtually idiot proof). Also, the size and overall appearance of the system components were attractive. It blended well into the decor of the room rather than dominating it. The sound quality for home theater was good, especially considering the small size of the system. The sound quality for music, however, was disappointing to say the least. The sound lacked that full, rich quality that one might expect to hear from good music speakers. In defense of the company, however, the Bose system is marketed and sold as a home theater system and performed competently in that capacity. But why anyone would want one set of speakers for home theater and another for music is a mystery. I also think its overpriced by as much as three or four hundred dollars.

As for the Polk system, it was the clear winner here despite the gargantuan subwoofer component. The sound was much more rich and full than the Bose system. Both for music and for home theater, the Polk system beat the Bose system hands down. The subwoofer component produced an enormous amount of bass. The satellites sound great with music. I think I'll be pleased with this system. However, I also recognize that not everyone may have the space required for it. Did I tell you that the subwoofer component is gargantuan (I'm not kidding, its a virtual planetoid!)

In either case, there are sacrifices that must be made. I chose to sacrifice space and unobtrusiveness (hopefully this is even a word) for overall sound quality. I would recommend the Polk system over the Bose system if you plan on playing a lot of music with the system or are less concerned about space issues.

Strength:

Small size, wide dynamic range, good LFE, sounds good for movies AND music

Weakness:

Price

Despite all the Bose bashing, I find the AM15's to have very satisfying sound. A friend of mine has the Energy Take5 system (with 10" sub) and paid about $1000. I feel the Bose sounds better. The size of the listening area is important to the quality of sound achieved (approx 10 x 12 for me) so, I think the sound may indeed be inferior to other, larger speakers in a bigger listening area. Other factors to consider are the positioning of the sattelites and sub - this is critical to the sound. Also, the RECEIVER plays a big factor in sound quality as well. I have a Sony ES30 and setting the db and Hz for bass, mid and high can make the sound go from "crap" to "very good" so I would challenge the bashers as to whether they have their receivers set up properly. Music (dolby digital) sounds great e.g., BeeGees and James Taylor DVD's beautiully mastered in 5.1 sound.

I have the AM15's for about two months now and they sound great for both my HT and everyday listening. They are well constructed. I would suggest them to others.

Strength:

Size...and only size. The sound is OK for casual listening and listeners.

Weakness:

Paper mid-drivers. Outrageously overpriced considering the sound quality.

These speakers(as all the Bose line) are acceptable for casual listeners but they just don't cut it after you've educated yourself (and your ears). It wouldn't be so bad but the outrageous prices that Bose charges for their products is a crime. There are so many more options for the same amount of money(and sometimes less)that blow the Bose line away. Check out the product guide in Sound and Vision: Paradigm,Energy,Polk,Aura,Def Tech, and many others offer superior products in the same price range. And guess what...they don't use paper cones(what a surprise!) Sorry Kevin, Bose doesn't make a lifetime product...paper cones surely don't last forever...you'll be lucky if they last 10 years! Also, you don't have to be an audiophile to hear the difference. If Bose made great-sounding systems at competitive prices than I'd be the first to say so....but they don't.

Strength:

Size, sound. LFE adjustment separate from bass adjustment.

There is only one thing that matters with speakers: how well the individual likes them. I love these things. Before I bought them, I checked with a lab that tests speakers for one thing: accuracy. Bose was at the top. Those who like mid-range and bass sounds boosted will prefer something else.

I've had these for nearly a year, and they still amaze me with their brilliant highs, rich mid-range, and solid, but not overboosted bass. The LFE gives gut-shaking ambiance to action movies without uncomfortable, ear-damaging volumes. Try not to listen to these speakers at those "Bose" displays at the chain stores. Take them home on the 30-day return and see what they sound like. I think you'll be amazed, as I am.

Strength:

Great sound rendition, size is right for a small listening room, good value for six units...about $750.

Weakness:

A little muddy bass

First off, the Japanese have a knack of stealing American products, improving on the basic design a bit and then calling it revolutionary. Their cars are still inferior and anemic...just look at a Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, lexus or the new Toyota Echo. Besides, they really care for their American buyers in safety since more Japanese cars fail crash tests than any other maker...I would never put one of my kids in a Toyota Rav4 (a Suzuki Samurai rebadged so that it has "renowned Toyota quality to sway stupid buyers).

The Bose are great and deserve better credit given their low cost for an entire system.
