MANY!!!

I was working at a Best Buy when I really got a chance to listen to these. In the same room they had BOSE and EOSONE. EOSONE was crap. EOSONE could beat bose hands down, no questions asked. Even with the much better sound people still bought the damm BOSE system. I firmly belive that mass america is oficially and legally tone deaf. I have heard shelf systems that sounded better than this stuff. I don't expect people to spend the kind of money that I do on audio equipment, but atleast audition other products in the same price range or even much lower price ranges. If you want super mini speakers and you actually think that BOSE sounds good: Go to www.energy-speakers.com and find a dealer near you to audition the Take 5 or the newer system. Even if you don't have a dealer near by, buy them mail order. If you don't have a dealer near by, you can get them off ebay and resell them for the same price if you don't like them, but their is no possibility that any BOSE speaker sounds better that a real brand of speakers.

To all the people who criticise the people who don't own them and have better gear. F*$K YOU and your LOUSY hearing. I don't own them because I have been forced to spend many hours listening to them in a demo with as many kinds of music as you can name. Don't try to make yourself feel better because you got ripped off on this S$*T. Find some other sucker and sell them. Buy real speakers! Their is no justifying that these are decent.

You can do FAR better for much less green!!!
NO HIGHS NO LOWS - MUST BE BOSE.

BOSE AM-10 SPEAKERS - $1100
YAMAHA RECEIVER - $500
SONY CD Player - $250
Paying a custom installer to connect 12 cables - $400/DAY

Finding out that the most expensive part of your system is the weakest link and that you could have done better for around $400 less. - PRICELESS

Strength:

has clarity in the top and top mid range

Weakness:

there is no lower mid-range and a terrible price

I have to admit that I allowed the name of bose to let me deny my first impression of these speakers in the shop (thinking that it was because the shop was less than ideal listening conditions); I thought that they were extraordinarily clear, but lacked a very important low-mid to bass range, making music of almost any sort become impersonal and cold.

So I bought them at their exhorbitant price and was immediately unhappy .... and have been ever since.

Having said that, with some concerted moving about of the sub, some of the sound was regained, but not all of it. Eventually I replaced the fronts with a speaker that could handle the missing range (fairly basic tannoy M1's), using just one of the bose speakers to provide the clarity that they are good at. So they sound pretty good with music, but are still a tinny for audio/visual surround.

Bose-ically, not at all impressed ... especially at the price.

Strength:

compact size

Weakness:

too many wires (routing of wires from receiver to bass module to speaker cubes makes it difficult to custom install speaker system in the listening room)

For those of you who own the Bose Accoustimass 10 or 15 speaker system and like me bought a powered subwoofer to deliver the low end bass. After tinkering with the system to configure the sound I have found to my liking to set all the satelite cubes (front, center, surround) to 'small'. I've adjusted the frequency of the powered subwoofer to 80. Contrary to what the owner's manual states the sound coming from this configuration is much clearer and more defined. The bass module seems to work with the satelites with much more accuracy and the powered subwoofer is producing a more defined bass thus a set up that together is producing a nice balance of sound that is not 'muddled'. It is my hope that the satelites will hold up with my Integra DTR-7 receiver at 105 w/ch. If not, and it blows, well I won't buy Bose again because I'm tired of playing and tinkering to get it to sound good.

I hope this helps those who own the same set up that I do.

If you listen only to Rock 'n Roll keep your hands away

OK, I saw a lot of up and downs in these reviews, but first of all: REMEMBER BOSE SELLS THIS PRODUCT AS A SYSTEM FOR HOME THEATER AND NOT FOR CONCERT HALLS!!!!!! and for that purpose it is more than excellent and even the 5 stars are not enough.
3 Weeks ago I bought myself a ONKYO TX 575X Dolby Digital Receiver and I shopped around to find a good speaker system. After testing my old AIWA and PIONEER spekers I was very unsatisfied with the sound so I bought the Canton Movie 10 System which also had 5 Cubes (2 way!) and an active Subwoofer. But the sound was awfull, like you conect speekers to a walkman... So I exchanged them with the Bose AM 10 II. After easiliy plugging them to my receiver and doing all the settings as of the BOSE-manual I was disapointed, too. So I played around with the position of the subwoofer and the satelites and...BINGO, here we go. The sound became fantastic. The bass is massive and natural, the dts and dolby digital surround-effects are first class and I couldn't here any differences compared with my THX-certified 1000 people capacity cinema. Quite on the contrary, because I am sitting in the center of my room, the surround effects are exactly there they should be.
That was the review for DVD-Audio. For normal CD/TUNER/PHONO etc. usage I would agree that there are better speakers to buy. Classic-Musik sounds excellent, too because the bose-system is very clear and natural in sound. Some of my Rock and Pop CDs also sound very fine and high fidel (Supertramp and Chris Rea for instance) but as I tried ACDC and Co I was missing some performance (...and bass), but luckily my receiver allows a second pair of speakers to be connected, so all my sound problems are solved.

Speaking only of sells price I could imagine that there are better and maybe cheaper 'allrounders' available but for pure home theater (DVD) usage it is the best system I have ever listened to. And the small size and design fits into each room.

D) All the above

WOW! After listening to these bad boys, I was really impressed. These speakers are way ahead of our time, I mean BOSE is right, "Beter sound through research". I was really surprised how advanced these speaker are. But even more surprised that they are the only manufacturer with this technology! I love electronic goodies so my house is filled with state-of-the-art equipment, and nothing I own is as advanced. I mean paper cones and plastic encasement, LOOK OUT NASA! I did find one thing in my house similar to this product, my Emerson alarm clock is also made of plastic and uses paper cones, but the resemblence stopped there. The BOSE did sound slightly better then my Emerson, but with dual alarms and 9V battery back up (should I loose power) the Emerson is a better buy.

Plus I am happy to announce that Sam's Club, Costco and other wholesale stores now carry the fine BOSE product line.
I mean, when I want to spend thousands of dollars on find audio equipment, I also better be able to pick up a gallon of mayonaise and a thirty-pack of Hanes T-shirts.

One last point, ever notice they people who love BOSE can only say that "they rock!", or "I thought is was a little underpowered till I hooked it upto my Technics/Kenwood/Aiwa/Sony/Teac receiver" Whoa big boy, not your ever powerful aiwa receiver that boasts a whopping 500W and yet sells for $149.99 at Best Buy. Also for you BOSE owner's out there, that boomy, low frequency sound audible at 20Hz-200Hz is called BASS not b-a-s-e

Anyone who buys BOSE, deserves it. There is no use in trying to save the ones that don't want to be saved!

Weakness:

I am now receiving death threats for purchasing Bose speakers.

I like my Bose! I think they look great, and they sound like a million bucks! I think Bose is like Apple in a way. They're a bit overpriced, but you get what you pay for. I am an enthusiast, and last time I checked, an enthusiast isn't even required to know what the heck 20 hz to 20 mhz is. An enthusiast listens to movies that rock! Bose delivered, big time! I didn't have to "peice" a system together, I just yabked it out of the box. Like my iMac, it came with a poster that illustrates the set-up, and the optimum listening positions. I plugged em in, turned on the Sony Str-De945, and movies ROCK. They're really cool speakers. I guess people despise Bose because they cost more than other speakers. Well, as a 15 year Mac user, I am used to paying a bit more for the little details that make toys fun. If you're broke, there are other speakers you could select to match your budget. If you're an enthusiast with $700.00, get these speakers, they're great.

No Bass!!!!

OK guys, as an owner, I can honestly give an unbiased opininion on the AM10's. I have them; have been dissapointed by them; spent too much money to get rid of them; but also have a solution to the "No Bass" problem.
I will dispense with all the positives the AM10's have (yes there are a few) and cut right to the quick of the problem. The AM10's have to be driven hard; very hard. My Sony DEH935 simply didn't have enough ass to drive the passive bass module (I believe it and the satellites are rated from 50-200 watts). I have always been satisfied with the automotive Bose sound systems which had plenty of bass, and as everyone knows those systems have seperate amps at each speaker. Nonetheless, adding a higher wattage amp was not an option because IMO the DEH935 is a great HT receiver. I listened to the Bose Lifestyle system with the powered bass module at a local Bose outlet and found the bass to have a great deal more presence than the AM10's (I was able to listen to both systems at the outlet, so the environment was the same). I must admit I am a bit confused because the Lifestyle 12 system is only rated at 80 watts on the bass module (Crutchfield spec sheet). Nonetheless, the bass in the Lifestyle system still wasn't what a typical HT system needs. Anyway, back to my solution. Buy a sub!!! I purchased an Acoustic Research ARS300 subwoofer, adjusted my DEH935's bass settings and voila! BASS... OK, maybe not what everyone was hoping, but it fixed my problem, and the system sounds great!
Good Luck guys!!!

Strength:

The complacency of the bose enthusiasts, who feel no need to open their eyes to what the world really has to offer.

Hello creditable, I'm back. I know you'll read this seeing as how you seem to check back on this page every 25 minutes. And you tell me to get a life! you posted the 1st review, came back the next day (the time line doesn't lie) and found a 1 star posting immediately above yours. You then make the hypothesis that ANYONE who doesn't like bose is either too poor to afford them or doesn't know anything about "good sound". Then you slither back 2 days later to see if anyone responded to the "dependable user" posting.
Maybe you should take on a different name, perhaps
"uncle Bose" would be fitting. Brings to mind a perverted fat guy with a bose cube hanging out of his *ss. I want you to tell me where in my retort I used the phrase "perfectly reproduces 20Hz-20kHz"? I said faithfully, not perfectly. I guess you have a special dictionary where faithfull and perfect are synonyms? If you would like to see the measurements of the speakers I listed, why don't you go to dunlavy's web site? They offer a detailed spectral analysis, and time response curve of the pair that I mentioned. Anyway, hows this for creditable; I have 7 systems listed that are all under $1300. I would like you to look at the reviews and see if there are any reviewers totally slandering def tech, or atlantic? probably not. Alot more bose haters huh? And why could that be? I didn't write EVERY 1 star review on my own, so that means there are plenty of people who know the truth. And if you really want to try yout wits, I am in the chat room from time to time, true to my name. I imagine the thought of debating me in person would give you an anxiety attack. Here are the syetems:

Atlantic Technologies System 170
Definitive Technology Prosystem 80 and 100
Energy Take 5
Klipsch quintet
Polk RM-6500
B&W 300 series(4 DM-302s, CC-3, and ASW-500)
Paradigm Monitor series.

These are the bose killers, why not go see how many people gave up these systems to "upgrade" to bose? You won't see it because it'll never happen.
