I agree with BC these speakers suck and if you just happen to be a multi millionaire with money to waste go ahead and buy a $800 cup holder because honestly that is all they are worth. And I am offended by the remarks that CHILDREN like this I am 16 and I hate Bose and everything about them. With about half the price you would pay for Bose 701's you could get real speakers like Paradigm Mini's or even Titans sound better, I'll even say my little 10 year old sister's Aiwa bookshelf speakers are better.

Strength:

Good for many things, such as weighing papers down and starting a fire.

Weakness:

Doesn't come with cheese dip.

My name is Groo. I am a wanderer. I am actually famous for being a dope, but I am smart. I carry two swords on my back and have been involved in many a fray. People say I am a fierce warrior in combat and many tremble upon hearing my name. You might be wondering what this has to do with Bose speakers. Well, the answer is simple: I have no idea.

It all started one day when I was wandering with my dog, whose name is Rufferto. We were crossing the desert of Aui when I came upon a magic lantern. I picked it up to see if there was any tea in it, but there was not. I noticed that the price tag was still on it, and, when I went to scratch it off, I discovered that there was a big genie living inside. The genie, whose name was Glob the Great, said that I was the lucky winner of a plate of fried sausage. Being a hungry man, I was delighted. But the genie said that as a bonus, he would grant me three wishes.

Being Groo and having just about everything, I was in a dilemma. What could I possibly want? Rufferto was tugging at my leg, and the idea came to me: Rufferto needed a new collar. So that was wish #2. For my first wish I chose some Cleenex, extra large size, since my nose is quite big and I often blow my nose on my shirt since I am out of high-quality tissues.

I thanked the genie and was on my way when he suggested that I take advantage of my third wish. He called me a mendicant for not realizing this, which hurt my feelings. I thought and thought and could not come up with any more things to ask for. The genie grew discouraged with me. He said to ask for Bose speakers, the highest quality stereo speakers ever made. Since I live in the past, I had no clue as to what a stereo actually is. The genie said he could send me to the future and examine stereo speakers, at no additional expense. I agreed to do so. I ended up at an electronics store which carried many a speaker, including this company called Blows -- uh, I mean -- Bose. After careful and extensive examination (four seconds worth), I decided to take the 701 series, since 701 is my favorite number.

I was brought back to my time period and had my Bose 701 speakers. The genie was gone. I was happy. The speakers looked so nice and clean. I loved them. After three months, a problem arose: I had nothing to plug them into! I should have saved a wish for an electrical outlet! Since I was stuck with some nice speakers, I couldn't let them go to waste. So I ate them. Did I err? I don't think so. They were actually pretty tasty insofar as you put salt on them and cook to 350 degrees. Add mustard with a side order of fresh cabbage and voila, a great meal. Rufferto likewise enjoyed his speaker, which was the center one. I learned that rear speakers have a bit more flavor. Ideally, one would take the left speaker and put it on top of the right speaker, and place a slice of salami in between them, thus effectively creating a super salami speaker sandwich. Granted, it didn't taste as good as cedar mulch, but I'm not going to complain.

Moral: They may sound like trash, but at least they taste good.

Strength:

Paper speakers, spring clips, and reflecting sound

Weakness:

Crappy paper speakers, low-bid clips, poor sounds quality.

These speakers are a joke. Avoid them if you care anything about good sound. I strongly believe that the same people that like these speakers are the same people that believe that Elvis is still alive. I think that people are impressed with the fact that these speakers cost 800+dollars. There are good speakers out there that dont't cost as much. These speakers do not do justice to music and sound even worse for movies. i finaly put me finger on what makes these speakers so bad, they are not accurate at all. whatsoever. Well enough said, just go to Rat shack and purchase a set of truck speakers and save the rest of the money for therapy............

The Bose corporation is a truly strange phenomenon. Their name recognition among the non-audiophile community is almost universal, yet their products are so completely horse-#$^@# (even for the money) that it is ridiculous. Why? A housewife reading Good Housekeeping, a couple building a home & reading Architectural Digest, probably even someone reading GQ or Vogue has Bose in front of their face on a daily basis. If I saw a colgate add every day, and was TOTALLY ignorant about toothpaste what do you think I'd buy?
The sound : reminiscent of an alarm clock with some bass.
One star only because there is no zero-star category. Please listen before you buy, people, Bose owners have no idea how enjoyable this hobby can be.

I don't have to lie about how bad Bose are, they suck for themselves. I don't care if they are laser precise positioned in optimum acoustic treatment. They still sound like grain and thump. They still suck.'tis the full truth.

Listen...owning a pair of these or any other Bose product is nothing to be ashamed about. The 701's make a great pedastal for Legacy Studio's, NHT Super One's and many other fine speakers. The 501's, while not as big, will hold two large cups of coffee placed side by side. In a speaker stand application, you can stabilize the 501's and 701's by filling them with sand through the conveniently located ports. If you have no need of speaker stands or coffee tables, use them as pedastals for bird baths. The possibilities are endless. one star for relative audio quality, five stars for versatility.

Strength:

easy like a sunday monring to hook up

Weakness:

sound very bad on that sunday morning.

Yes I did own these speakers. I am convinced that the outlet stores used ticks to get me to buy them. I took them back and I amlost got into a fight with the store manager. I was nice to her, I told her that I don't like how they sound, could I have my money back? Oh well they could be defective and we will get you a new set. I tryed for 15 minutes to tell this woman that the speakers work, I just don't like the sound. Then they wanted me to get the Am10 speakers with the little cubes. I refused to listen to them. I said look, nothing you have in the store inerests me, I want my money back because I came to the wrong store. I did get a check for all my trouble 2 weeks later. Stay far away from these Bose outlet stores. The don't really save you money and they have bad service. Please forgive me for buying these speakers. We all make mistakes. I will try hard to push ahead and maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel....

Strength:

Compact design, Wide soundstage, Clean bass, Crisp highs, midrange blows away the competition.

Weakness:

Spring clip cable hook-ups

OK… Not everyone likes the way Bose systems sound. They have always had a colored sound. They do not accurately reproduce source material! On first tryout most people would think, “What’s the big deal” or
“These speakers suck” But make no mistake… When properly placed and powered 701s can produce incredible sound! I think the company does a very good job of explaining how their speakers work. But a lot of buyers don’t pay attention. Most of the sound is not direct, so your first impression may be “where’s the beef” If you want “In your face sound” don’t buy Bose! For those of us who like the “Bose effect” you will be pleased with 701s because you’ll know what you’re buying from the start… That sweet colored sound that only Bose speakers can give…

Strength:

handle a crapload of power, great bass, midrange, and highs

Weakness:

nothing

I just turned 14 yrs. the other day and we moved on my b-day. Since my bedroom was completely different from my last, my parents decided to get me a theater for my new room. They got me 2 Bose 701 speakers for the front channel, 2 for the surround, 2 for back surround, and some bose center channel. They also gave me the Denon AVR5800 reciever and separate 2 channel amp to match the speakers. These are the sweetest speakers in the whole world and I wouldn't give them up for anything. They have incredible sound especially when using the THX "EX". with these speakers, I didn't even need to hook up my Velodyne woofer thing. Every person should have a pair of Bose 701 speakers.

Strength:

Conversation piece.

Weakness:

I did not care for the sound.

I bought a set of these speakers. I have sent them back. I did not care for the sound. I was happy at first until I went to a store and heard real speakers. These speakers are not quality made and have spring clip conections. The sound was average when I used high end equipment. Wire and tunning made no difference with the 701s. The highs were not as clean as I would have liked them to be. The Lows were a tad thin for me. It all started when I fell asleep one night and woke up and really listened to these speakers. The sound was not as pleasing to my ears as is was when I first bought them. They are not garbage speakers by any strech, but they did not make me happy. I the seperation in HT is not there. For music they are ok for the average listener as best. Do yourself a favor look at other speakers in this price range, I did and I am a happy guy.
