Since Cody wrote such an in depth review that may be too difficult for the layman to comprehend, I will take the liberty of paraphrasing it for our less technical audio enthusiasts. |

I come to inform the general public of a dreadful illness that has recently been discovered by me and my research team (which, incidentally, consists solely of myself). It starts out in the budding audio novice stage, wherein someone on the hunt for speakers gets ambushed by a Bose agent. These agents can be found lurking in malls, department stores, and infomercials across the globe. They latch themselves onto the common sense center of the brain, and start filling it with natural sound. The victim usually doesn't know what to do at first, but for some reason, all of their friends have told them that Bose is the best, so they ignore their own suspicions and accept it as good. It sounds better than the mini-system they have now, and it sounds better than the KLH speakers at Radio Shack®, they must be GREAT! So, the victim discards all reservations because, heh, it's Bose, right? It's the best! |

Strength:
Bass, Mids, Highs, PRICE!
Weakness:
All the a-holes on this page bashing such a great product I have owned these speakers for over a year and am very pleased with them. I am no audiophile but have demoed more expensive speakers. The 701's either match or surpass any speaker more then twice the price. I wouldnt be writing this except for the disturbing trend i am seeing in people who obviously have never listened to these speaker bashing them because for some reason they dont like bose. WTF is up with that? All i can say is since those people obviously dont have anything better to do i suggest that they go and snort some more coke so that they can kill more brain cells then they already have. Some of these reviews are obviously phony. For example one "troubled" consumer ranted on about taking the covers off at a store to discover paper cones. what did he do, rip the fronts off in front of the manager? Bose makes most of their products w/o removable covers. Or did that not occur to the concerned consumer who thoughtfully gave us this review? All i can say is that I implore the sane people left in this world to ignore the obviously biased reviews regarding souch excellent speakers. I have no regrets about giving these speakers 5 stars |

Strength:
Enormous power handling capabilities especially when listening to surround DVD's. Bass is phenomenal,(I got rid of my subwoofer because these things blew it away!)Highs are accurate and mids are quite smooth.
Weakness:
Not great for real low level listening, (background) these speakers like power and they handle it well. You can't put these speakers in a closet or an apartment and expect them to impress you. They have to BREATHE!!! When you give them room and plenty of power, they will not dissapoint. I have them as the main speakers in my surround system with a Carver CT17 preamp and seven Carver amps. The rest of the speakers in my system are also Bose. I have never found a better speaker for the money. Anyone who says that they don't put out bass should buy some decent amplification instead of putting down these beauties. As far as highs, if you don't think there are any, maybe you have your treble control turned off. Again, they are not for the faint of heart or someone who THINKS they are an audio aficianodo. If you know what you are doing, you will truly enjoy these speakers. Similar Products Used: Infinity, Polk, JBL |

Weakness:
Highs, mids, bass I have for years heard rave reviews of Bose products. However, when I recently decided to try one out for myself at a local Fry's I was appalled. I used to own a $250 Aiwa bookshelf Pro-Logic system, and THAT blew away these things. When I took the covers off of them I almost died laughing. Those little paper pieces of crap aren't worth their weight in raw sewage. I discovered a Star Wars Episode I video in their demo room so I played it (having watched this movies at least 180 times, I know every little nuance of the sound it in). The sound lacked everything. The lower mids were GONE!!!!! The "Bass Module" was just throwing a bunch of air. My new Wharfedales could kick the crap out of them, and they cost me a fifth as much. Save your money and time. Go get a REAL pair of floorstanding speakers. |

Strength:
It depends on what amplifier you are using but I think it closely reproduces the natural sound you would look for at a concert. It has good highs and I find the bass response is low enough to appreciate the DVD's on the market with heavy action scenes.
Weakness:
The sensitivity of this set of speakers require more power to get the sounds out of them than my Cerwin Vega's. I listened to these speakers along side of other top line speakers and you can certainly find any number of speakers that will crank out the sound, but I prefered the more natural sound then the excessive bass and trebble of the other speakers. The 701's seemed to be just the pair that sounded like what you heard at the concert! Bose support is excellent too, and you will find this out when you compare them with other support groups from other manufacturers. Similar Products Used: Cerwin Vega |

Strength:
Clear, clean sound.
Weakness:
None No matter what, these are the best speakers in the price group up to $2500.00. Try these speakers. The sound is awesome and fun. Clean, clear, crisp sound. What more could you ask for? The negitive reviews here are from people who probably do not own these speakers. The german guy who claims to have done an experiment did no such thing. The "double blind" experiment is real. Go down the list and read that one. Why is everyone so afraid to do a real experiment themselves? Answer: they will not be able to stand by their claims.
