Since Cody wrote such an in depth review that may be too difficult for the layman to comprehend, I will take the liberty of paraphrasing it for our less technical audio enthusiasts.

'Bose is great because they are good. Bose has better sound than everyone else because they are better. Bose is better than the movie theater because they are nice. Buy Bose because they are great. Bose is best.'

I've sorted through all the technical mumbo jumbo and reasons why he likes it, and summarized it for you, free of charge. As you can see, it makes a lot more sense now. No need to thank me. I'm just trying to help my fellow audio comrades attain enlightenment.

I come to inform the general public of a dreadful illness that has recently been discovered by me and my research team (which, incidentally, consists solely of myself). It starts out in the budding audio novice stage, wherein someone on the hunt for speakers gets ambushed by a Bose agent. These agents can be found lurking in malls, department stores, and infomercials across the globe. They latch themselves onto the common sense center of the brain, and start filling it with natural sound. The victim usually doesn't know what to do at first, but for some reason, all of their friends have told them that Bose is the best, so they ignore their own suspicions and accept it as good. It sounds better than the mini-system they have now, and it sounds better than the KLH speakers at Radio Shack®, they must be GREAT! So, the victim discards all reservations because, heh, it's Bose, right? It's the best!

So now they buy a brand new 901 or 701 speakers, set it up, and then proceed to impress their friends, family, and pet hamster with how "great" it sounds, and how much money they spent. This subsequently tightens the grip upon them. There may be still a shred of doubt in some, but by this point, most have surrendered.

Then it happens ... they stumble upon the AR review board, and, to their astonishment, Bose has lower scores -- the horror! -- than everyone else. This causes the ailment to begin seating itself in the deepest centers of the brain. The victim tries to defend their purchase by lying to themselves, and auditioning other speakers with the premise that "Bose HAS to sound better than this" running through their head. Some are cured by a listen to some real speakers; others digress into the deepest stages of madness that I call ... "Bosomania"®. They begin to e-mail those who give unfavorable reviews; they begin pointless crusades within this very review board. Sample: "The 901s sound better then $5000 speakers. They sound natural, not harsh like other brands."

Now I relate this to some other unexplainable illnesses. Observe. Did you know there is actually an illness where people EAT feces? Incredible, but true. They don't know why they do it, they just cant help it. I relate Bosomania® similarly: the listener doesn't know why they like it, but they blabber onward, never submitting a reason for this belief. Now, to all the regulars in here, I implore you: When you see one of these individuals, proceed with caution. They are more afraid of your speakers than you are of them. In fact, they may foam at the mouth or even hurl accoustimass cubes at you while shouting catchy evangelistic pro-Bose rhetoric. Don't panic though, just aim a pair of Revels or Martin Logan at em' with some of your best recordings; and if they keep on comin', they're through. They cannot be cured. Just point laugh, and walk away.

Its either what I stated above that has caused the review offering ludicous praise, or they're all just written by members of the Bose advertising deparment. Either way, this doctor is convinced.....

Strength:

Bass, Mids, Highs, PRICE!

Weakness:

All the a-holes on this page bashing such a great product

I have owned these speakers for over a year and am very pleased with them. I am no audiophile but have demoed more expensive speakers. The 701's either match or surpass any speaker more then twice the price. I wouldnt be writing this except for the disturbing trend i am seeing in people who obviously have never listened to these speaker bashing them because for some reason they dont like bose. WTF is up with that? All i can say is since those people obviously dont have anything better to do i suggest that they go and snort some more coke so that they can kill more brain cells then they already have. Some of these reviews are obviously phony. For example one "troubled" consumer ranted on about taking the covers off at a store to discover paper cones. what did he do, rip the fronts off in front of the manager? Bose makes most of their products w/o removable covers. Or did that not occur to the concerned consumer who thoughtfully gave us this review? All i can say is that I implore the sane people left in this world to ignore the obviously biased reviews regarding souch excellent speakers. I have no regrets about giving these speakers 5 stars

Strength:

Enormous power handling capabilities especially when listening to surround DVD's. Bass is phenomenal,(I got rid of my subwoofer because these things blew it away!)Highs are accurate and mids are quite smooth.

Weakness:

Not great for real low level listening, (background) these speakers like power and they handle it well.

You can't put these speakers in a closet or an apartment and expect them to impress you. They have to BREATHE!!! When you give them room and plenty of power, they will not dissapoint. I have them as the main speakers in my surround system with a Carver CT17 preamp and seven Carver amps. The rest of the speakers in my system are also Bose. I have never found a better speaker for the money. Anyone who says that they don't put out bass should buy some decent amplification instead of putting down these beauties. As far as highs, if you don't think there are any, maybe you have your treble control turned off. Again, they are not for the faint of heart or someone who THINKS they are an audio aficianodo. If you know what you are doing, you will truly enjoy these speakers.

Weakness:

No highs, no lows -- it must be a Bose.

Hey Jay,

Your review has several flaws in it. Which isn't surprising because everyone who likes Bose comes on here and repeats the same mistakes. You say those who don't like Bose are "biased." Of course that's true. Just like you are biased in favor of Bose. We all did the same thing. That is, we heard Bose speakers, and subsequently determined whether we (1) like them or (2) hate them. If you like them you're "objective"; if you hate them you're "biased". Are you for real? What an inconsistent statement to make.

Secondly, everyone on this site who actually like Bose (all nine of you) say the haters either (1) haven't bought them, or (2) haven't heard them. Apparently these people believe if only you heard Bose you would see the light. Again, another absurd premise. The reason why people don't like Bose is precisely because they have heard them! Geez, it's really not that complicated. And since they heard them and disliked them, naturally they're not going to buy them. Would you buy a product you tested which you found weak?

We're doing a public service here pointing out that Bose is overpriced junk. Audiophiles dislike Bose for numerous reasons, and they have gone into much depth exposing the fradulent company for what it is. Instead of yelling at them and telling them to snort coke, you should be commending them for a job well done.

Cheap parts + bad sound + lots of advertising = BOSE

Highs, mids, bass

I have for years heard rave reviews of Bose products. However, when I recently decided to try one out for myself at a local Fry's I was appalled. I used to own a $250 Aiwa bookshelf Pro-Logic system, and THAT blew away these things. When I took the covers off of them I almost died laughing. Those little paper pieces of crap aren't worth their weight in raw sewage. I discovered a Star Wars Episode I video in their demo room so I played it (having watched this movies at least 180 times, I know every little nuance of the sound it in). The sound lacked everything. The lower mids were GONE!!!!! The "Bass Module" was just throwing a bunch of air. My new Wharfedales could kick the crap out of them, and they cost me a fifth as much. Save your money and time. Go get a REAL pair of floorstanding speakers.

Strength:

Bose employees like Cody provide us with facts and indisputable evidence why the BYOLZE 701s where crafted by god himself.

Right.........

Weakness:

Its amazing the things people would rather have than money.

Keep in mind the following, things that people reading Codys review need to think about:

"Your room fills with the most wonderful sounds each time you listen to them."

*This is because Cody has a CD named "Wonderful Sounds", so no matter what speaker your using, they will be "wonderful sounds" each and every time you turn it on.

"The lows are great too and if you have a powered sub, the mix is awesome." AND
"You can't get better speakers no matter what."

*saying "You can't get better speakers no matter what" would for all intents and purposes mean that they are the best speakers man has ever created. Then why would you EVER need a subwoofer?

Similar Products Used:

Codys vast auditioning includes the following:
"JBL, Polk, BAs, KEF (the all time nasty sounding speaker on the market), B&W, Tannoy."

*notice the omision of WHY the 701s sound better than any of the aforementioned brands.

Strength:

It depends on what amplifier you are using but I think it closely reproduces the natural sound you would look for at a concert. It has good highs and I find the bass response is low enough to appreciate the DVD's on the market with heavy action scenes.

Weakness:

The sensitivity of this set of speakers require more power to get the sounds out of them than my Cerwin Vega's.

I listened to these speakers along side of other top line speakers and you can certainly find any number of speakers that will crank out the sound, but I prefered the more natural sound then the excessive bass and trebble of the other speakers. The 701's seemed to be just the pair that sounded like what you heard at the concert! Bose support is excellent too, and you will find this out when you compare them with other support groups from other manufacturers.

Strength:

Clear, clean sound.

Weakness:

None

No matter what, these are the best speakers in the price group up to $2500.00. Try these speakers. The sound is awesome and fun. Clean, clear, crisp sound. What more could you ask for? The negitive reviews here are from people who probably do not own these speakers. The german guy who claims to have done an experiment did no such thing. The "double blind" experiment is real. Go down the list and read that one. Why is everyone so afraid to do a real experiment themselves? Answer: they will not be able to stand by their claims.

Great speakers here, look no more.
