I purchased a pair of BIC DV-64 speakers !2/23/13, they are pretty good speakers, but I believe they are set up for Home Theater! If you are listening to music they are not real accurate, they sound good, but very harsh on the Hi's & vocals, Midrange clarity & definition is not the best & the Tweeter is just to loud not a very Balanced sound!
But if you want to change all that for a small amount $$, I would highly recommend sending your crossovers to Ed Frias, he can make that amazing change for you!! I had it done & it's absolutely an amazing difference!
For only about $82.00 including return shipping you have to pay to get them to him which is only about $7.00 it cost me a Total of $89.00! In my opinion it is absolutely well worth the small price for such a big difference!
Now they sound very accurate the harshness is gone in the Hi's & the Vocals, the Midrange have amazing clarity & it is a much more Defined & Balanced speaker!
I honestly was on the fence & hesitant about having them done, but I talked to Ed & he ashore me that I would like the change & I did & I am very glad I did have it done!
That's the other good thing you can talk to him by phone or email he will answer all your questions if you have any, he is a very nice guy & easy to talk to!
Also would like to say that when you get the crossovers back & look @ the high quality workmanship that he personally does, the work he does to the Crossovers looks like it was done @ the factory!!
It only took about 6 days including Sunday to get them back, sent them Sat. morning got them back on the next Friday!
So if you are looking for a pair of these speakers I would recommend them & would absolutely highly recommend having the crossovers Modified by Ed, when he is done with them you will have a VERY HIGH QUALITY speaker probably for only a total of $300.00 including Modification, Sounding like a speaker that would be worth MORE than twice the amount!!!
So if you have these speakers or thinking about buying them definitely have the Modification done to them! You will be glad you did!!

I purchased the "highly modified" version of the speakers from Ed Frias at EFE Speakers. When I hooked them up I was amazed by the quality of the sound in comparison to the Sony SS-MF650H speakers they replaced. I heard things I've never heard before in some of my favorite music, and listening with just the two DV-64's provided a much richer and room filling listening experience than I had previously experienced when listening in surround sound. Paired wiith my Klipsch SUB-12 they produce an impressive and rich soundstage. I bought the modified version sight unseen, so I can't compare to the unmodified version, but they sound much better than some of the "higher end" speakers I've auditioned in the big box stores.

Strength:

Price, large soundstage, good imaging, efficient

Weakness:

These speakers aren't the prettiest, but for the price($240 pair), there isn't much room to complain. The build quality is ok, but better than what you would expect at this pricepoint.

I wanted to give my impressions on some EFE modified BIC Venturi Speakers. I'm using DV64 towers as my mains, DV62CLRS center, DV62si bookshelves for surrounds and an SVS PB10 all running through a Pioneer 1015.

I've owned the BIC center and bookshelves for over 2 years in stock form, so I've really had an opportunity to listen to them with a lot of sources and in different locations. The DV64's were purchased several months ago, but have the same tweeter and drivers as the other speakers. They all match very well together.

The BIC's sounded pretty good before I modified them. If I mostly watched movies and TV, I may not have modified them because I was happy with the way they sounded. However, listening to music with these speakers was not satisfactory for me at all. The speakers were bright, and I would experience listening fatigue.

When I received the modified crossovers in the mail, I immediately put the speakers back together and listened to them for hours. I went through just about every song that I thought would test the speaker’s abilities. Right away I noticed a huge difference with 2 channel music. I turned the sub off and set the DV64's to large. I also listened in direct mode which defeats any eq or distance settings. My sloppy bright towers have become a pleasure to listen to. I can't believe I only have a little over $300 into these speakers. They are much warmer and detailed. The mids are no longer trying to compete with the highs. I never complained about the bass before, but now it just sounds better, more controlled. Everything is much more balanced, and I experience none of the listening fatigue that I experienced before the modifications. I'm very happy with the way they sound now.

The mods have not taken anything away from movies/TV. Dialouge seems clearer and less artificial.

One thing to note, these speakers are bright out of the box, but that doesn't mean that the mods take away the high end. The high end is still dynamic and, well, bright if the source calls for it. Everything is just more balanced. The highs are there, and the mids are much better. Everything just sounds more natural, and the whole listening experience has become much more enjoyable.

I'd highly recommend this setup to anyone on a budget looking for good sound. Especially if you have a medium to larger sized room. Don't waste your time with small inexpensive satellite type HTIB systems if you want to fill a larger room with sound (yes there are some satellite systems that can fill large rooms, but I've never liked them for music). These speakers produce a lot of sound for the money. Where else can you get 2 floorstanders, a center, and bookshelves with a total of 8-6" woofers, 5 tweeters, and 4-6"passive woofers with crossover modifications by one of the most respected speaker builders for less than $600 total. I highly recommend having the crossovers modified by Ed Frias especially if you plan on listening to any music. He is very professional to deal with, and has answered all of my questions through email, and over the phone.

I'm going to have to rate these a 5. Not because I think they're the greatest speakers ever, but because of the value. I have not heard any floorstanding speaker in this price bracket that can compete with the modified DV64's.
