i've bought this speakers this summer second hand for around 160€. this is just the buy of the century! they have a verry rich sound with hi's and mids that you normaly find on speaker costing +600€.

the bass is good and it sound acurate and tight and there is plenty of bass but it doesnt go that deep. it rolls of about 50-55 Hz so you may want to get a nice sub. I'm now searching for an asw300.

but overall this is a really good speaker!

Bass

Hi, (350€ paid) i bought this pair of speaker about 3 years ago. Im running them with a Marantz PM-78. After these time i can say that it is a really great speaker if you see the price and what you get for that. The speaker is in this priceclass unbeaten. I love that sound. The mid and highs are really good. Especially voices sound great. The bass sometimes has a lag. But it also sounds well. There is only one thing i dont like at this speaker. If he has to play real Metal sound he is not hard enough. You can hear it that he doesnt like that style of music. All in all i would buy it again. i have just ordered a pair of B&W 604 S3. The 305 will become my Rearspeaker now for the planned Home Cinema. All i can say is - if you get this speaker for about 300-400€ buy it. Its old but in this price class still one of the best i think.

Strength:

For price: nice soundstage, as well as clarity, and acuracy above 50 hz.

Weakness:

lack of deep bass

I just auditioned these today and they sound great. I was very impressed at the transparenceness of them for a $500(Canadian) speaker. The only problem is the bass response, they put out more sound then I thought they would but they lack the very deep bass. This will be my first real speaker purchase, so I figured this would be a good starting point.

I would recommend these speakers to anyone on a tight budget that want so very nice mid-fi speakers. If you want base response you will need a subwoofer. Something like the ASW500 would do fine and won't damage you pocket book too much.

Strength:

Great sound at this low price the best I heard and I demoed alot of speakers in the 400.00 to 1000.00 price range and I found these to be the best deal for only 450.00 a pair. Very nice presence and suprisingly good base on well recorded CD's. If you put in well recorded music you get great sound out these B&W DM305's

Weakness:

none yet

I would recommend listening to these DM305's to anyone looking at Infinity, Polk, NHT, Definitive Tech., JBL, Bose, AR, PSB, Boston ect. before you purchase you might save your self some money and end up with a great set of speakers.

Quality & Value

I purchased a complete set of equipment (Denon AVR1800, B&W DM302, 305,CC3, ASW 1000 and Toshiba SD4109x)

My comments here are related to B&W 305 & 302. Prior to committing to the B&Ws, I started out looking at Energy Take5 and the Mirage AVS-500. I was thinking more in terms of space saving speakers. Next I get to listen to tower units, which gives fuller sound and saves a set of stands. At this stage I was looking at Mirage FRX7s and B&W 3 series. I like them both. The B&W sounds better for music and Mirage is better for DVDs. Both units are around the same price range. The B&Ws has a noticeable sweeter sound especially at the mid-range. I had to ask a friend to help out at the last test before I settle on the B&Ws.

I had a set monster cable installed. A bit costly at Can$400. Since I gone this far what is another $400. It is a wonderful combination with the Denon receiver. Zero distortion at any level. The center speaker is great as most of the DVD sound comes from the center speaker. The surround speakers rarely come live. I often wonder if I should have purchased a set of small speakers for the back.

This is a great value for the quality of sound. I would recommend this anyone!

Strength:

Good treble, bass and vocal

Weakness:

none

The DM305 is a floor stand speaker come with spikes which I think is a must for floor stand speaker.
I assessed this speaker (biwired) at different position over a period of time and found it to sound best approximately 0.8 metre away from the rear wall and 0.4m away from the side wall (my listening room is 5m x 3m) and I angled the DM305 slightly towards the listening position.
Trying different songs from my disc collection has left me to conclude that this is a speaker which has very good lucid details in treble as well as vocal. Bass is solid too and is extended with the designed air firing port one in front and the other behind.
Well, this speaker's performance has gone beyond its price.

Strength:

Accuracy, soundstage, value, biwire.

Weakness:

None for size/price.

As others have stated, great speaker for the price. Accurate vocals, nice soundstage, imaging. Decent bass for a small speaker. I use them in a medium size room for HT and music. My system can be bright(harsh): Kenwood Stage 3 PreAmp/Amp. I'm getting away from Monster Cable to sweeten things up, cables/wires can make a difference.

Strength:

I like listening to songs with vocal and this is a speaker that really please me. Good soundstage, clean and clear treble and bass is alright. I partner the DM305 with Technics pre and power amp (sc-u1000 &se-a1000) onkyo dx7211 CD player connected to Optichord to MF X24K DAC, QED interconnect and bi-wired with Sonic link AST200 speaker cable. The matching results in FANTASTIC sound! I enjoy very much with the system output And the DM305 has the credit.

No doubt, it deserved 5 stars.
