Strength:

Clear soundstage, transparent highs/mids, exellent woodworkings

Weakness:

Slightly dull bass

I have purchased SF Concertinos last year and enjoyed classical music with them. They are really good speakers, especially for string ensembles. However, I felt something is lacking; yes, the soundstages they present were not very clear, and the lows were poor (Hey! They're bookshelf speakers!). I decided to replace them with CDM7NTs because CDM7NTs fix most of these problems. High definition, holographic images, wide wide soundstage, bass is good enough for Japanese "rabbit cage" rooms (but listen! Pretty dull compared with CDM9NT)....Can you believe the price tag? I really love the now-comers from the UK!

Strength:

Good looking. Well put together.

Weakness:

Bright edgy sound. Weak bass depth. Very tiring sound after long periods.

I have owned these B&W's for nearly 6months now, and to be quite honest I am very dissapointed in their overall performance. They have a tizziness about them that is tiresome in the extreme. The midband sounds reasonabbly good, although rather forward. I find the bass weak in depth, although devoid of boominess. I have used these on Krell, and Crown amplifiers and realize that it is not an upstream problem I am hearing. The wood looks good, and fit and finish is acceptable, except my pair had a bad corner in the veneer out of a Factory sealed box.
A very dissapointing effort from B&W is the result of many hours of listening on my part. There are many other Loudspeakers from Europe that are smoother and detailed for the same money.

Strength:

Richness in detail, close range listening ability, soundstage, imaging, clean and lean bass, coherence (in up,mid, low) neighbourfriendlyness, natural sound

Weakness:

No real allrounders, are somewhat unforgiven towards less good (produced) recordings

My current set-up is: - B&W cdm7 NT speakers - NAD C370 amplifier - NAD C351 CDplayer - Sphinx equaliser phono stage - Thorens TD290 turntable - QED Qunex One interconnects - speakercable, type/brand unknown to me.

After years of listening to different high quality set ups at dealers and with fiends I recently decided to upward my budget-system. I have spent several months looking for speakers which would have the caracteristrics I appreciate (which are mentioned above under "Strenghts"). I have found those to the full in the 7NT. I did not want them neccesarily to be complete allrounders. Nevertheless I have to say that the performance they deliver when playing f.e. Suicidal Tendencies is slightly dissapointing in relation to the level of performance when playing f.e. Eva Cassidy's live at Blues Alley. Therefore my overall rating 4 stars. But looking at the level of performance concerning most of my musical taste (from hardcore to opera) I really can live with that. I can imagine that, when not matched carefully with other components, the speakers can sound too harsh or too bright. I can say that the NAD amplifier and CD-player and also the QED interconnects have "tackled" this issue succesfully, given my listening preferences of course. To me the 7NTs are worth more than every penny I have put down for them.

Strength:

Extremly detailed Mids and Highs, Superb bass, and attack time. Astonishing cabinet design and finish in Red Cherry wood.

Weakness:

None!

This has to be "The speaker" of the millenium. It has 95% of the sound of the Nautulus 804 and costs nearly half. To be honest I love the style of the CDM7NT more in it's Red Cherry veneer more. The Sound?...well it is so clear and detailed in the mids and highs. I cannot detect any Coloration in voices. The bass is astonishing in it's speed, depth and detail. I have put a signal generator on these at a moderate level, and found they can produce 30HZ tones cleanly in my room with ease. They must have at least 30 days to "Break-In" as per B&W's Website recommendations. I adore these speakers, and I listened to many brands and models before handing my money over. A Best Buy without question!

Strength:

It has a very warm feeling to me and my wife. A great speaker in mid and high.

Weakness:

Definitely the bass. Maybe due to my amplifier (Camtech 8000A) but it was much to boomy to me.

I've had these for a weekend to try out at home. I was very disappointed, because the bass was too boomy to me. It was even irritating me after a few minutes. Too bad.

Letting the bass for what it is, this is a very warm speaker. My wife liked it very much (although she agreed that the bass was too overwhelming).

I listened the weekend after to the CDM9NT and this was much much much better!

Strength:

Truly a multi purpose speaker. I am using these for both Audio and home theatre. Outstanding sound, and looks wonderful.

Weakness:

Price, but what do you expect, it is a wood veneer cabinet.

It has been a long time since I purchased speakers. So, I took the plunge into home theatre. Wanting both audio quality and home theatre was a bit of a challenge. There were lots of choices for home theatre, and they sounded great. However, in audio only mode the sound was not acceptable.

I listened to these speakers in both home theatre and audio. The sound is wonderful. I also picked up the 1 nt's for the rears, wow!

Strength:

Very sweet and clear, natural sound. Great for music or home theatre.

Weakness:

None, except not exceptional bass end.

Listened to a wide range of speakers from several audiophile dealers over several months. While many of the speakers sound great, the best combination of sound and price fell to the CDM-7-NTs. After break in period (around 50-100 hours) the sound only got better.

Great for music, wonderful for home theatre. High marks for clarity without harshness, soundstage and presence. Well balanced throughout the frequency range.

I do use a subwoofer though, so I don't notice any low end problems. If you don't have a sub, try the CDM-9-NTs.

I also purchased the matching center channel, so the entire front end is seamless and balanced.

Weakness:

hard to find

I started shopping around for speakers in the $1000 range. But, as trying more and more speaker systems, my budget kept going up!!! (you guys experienced similarly...I guess :) ) So finally i reached $2000 speaker, CDM 7NT.

first, i have to say this. my preference is classic and jazz. so i did look for kind of decent bass sound. in fact, without spending $1500, it is very hard to get a decent bass from speakers.

well, until now i tried various kinds of speakers.

first,Sonus Faber concertino. its sound is really beautiful! sounds as if a singer is singing just in front of me. but, that's it. you cannot hear any bass sounds. so unless you just want vocals, you need a subwoofer for so-called a balanced music. The subwoofer will cost about more than $2000 additionally which i cannot afford. so i quit. but it is very nice speaker only if you can afford more than $3500 for speakers.

second, vienna acoustics speakers. hmm i forgot that name. the next level of hydn. around $1500 one. well, it has a very similar sound with sonus faber. but not as beautiful as sonus faber. but has more bass than that. however, personally i felt as if there were still no bass sound at all.

the above two speakers made me feel more rythm of music. high frequency sounds really beutiful - women singers voice...- but, made me think that they are MAKING UP sounds to make them felt more beautiful.

third, linn ninka. this is a very good speaker. less sensitive than sonus faber but has enough bass. unless you want one-sided music (without bass) ninka must be a good compromise for its price.

But, when i tried the CDM 1NT, i started rethinking about all those above speakers. CDM 1NT has a little bit harsh sound in high frequency, but has decent bass sound. cheaper but wonderful.

the one, CDM 7NT is even perfect in terms of sound. has very very clear and richer sound in high frequency. And at the same time, has wonderful bass sound. for example, if you like the acoustic sound from jazz, then you have choose this perfect speakers. the sounds are quite different with the previouse models CDM 7 or CDM 7SE.

don't compare these speakers with klipsh- klf30. much much better. maybe if you choose b&w 605S2, then, it can be a good comparison with this speaker.

Well, i am very enjoying my CDM 7NT speakers. Again and again, I am finding some elements in cello or jass or even ochestra I thought I knew well that I'd never noticed earlier.

the only concern is my overbudget.....

Strength:

Sound is so clear. Lovely piece of furniture. Sounds gorgeous on everything, whatever I play.

Weakness:

None i can think of.

I was uneasy having to go in the Hi-Fi stores to find the sound I was looking for. So much to choose from, and all the salespeople saying their product was the best. I looked at this speaker because I loved the way it looked. Then I listend carefully to music from Mozart to Eminem. It has the amazing ability to sound superb on everything, unlike other Company's speakers. It is so neutral. I was lucky to try a pair first in my Chalet here to make sure I was happy. The dealer received payment the next day! I am truly delighted with my purchase, and adore the full detailed sound, and beautiful wood cabinet.

Strength:

Totally neutral, beautifully voiced, excellent hi-end, midrange, excellent bass response for such a small tower speaker.

Weakness:

none, as far as I'm concerned

This speakers are great and outstanding.
I change my Infinity Kappa 6.21 into CDM 7NT and what a difference.
The best speaker I ever had. If sound is important for you , consider them in HT and Stereo.
