Strength:

Amazing incredible details, space, air, magnificient extraordinary unusual sound
better than 90 % dynamic speakers of the all f...ing world!
Martin Logan is weak - everlasting bass problems hybrid ESL+dynamic.
Maybe better sounds Soundlab from Utah and Metaxas from planet Australia,
but are very expensive - more than 15000 bugs for mid class model.

Weakness:

I must say it - very weak bass. You must use very good /two!/ subwoofers,
but be carful beacause when you choose too much bass level - the space
of ESL vanish. You must experienced - very good results and concepts got WLM
from Austria with subwoofer emitting sound pressure upward. You may see it
on website: http://www.wlm-loudspeakers.com/WLMDuosubwengl.html

I am owner ESL floor loudspeaker Audiostatic ES300RS from three years ago.
Detailed, fast, natural sound without any lack of bass. You can listen for hours without tired ears if you have good stable amplifier minimum 200W per channel
with impedance 1-2 ohms because these electrostats got problem with low impedance. Amplifier must be very strong - better if you have dual mono.
The Mylar foil inside are very sensitive for dust and for overdrive volume.
Be careful always with volume level because you maybe damage your expensive speakers. Two important matters: volume level and good high-end CD& partners and always wiill be good. Not for smokers, small children, and cats or dogs. They coolects dust. Every month you must clean delicate vacuum cleaner
with mid-strong power. Never touch Mylar with wet fingers. Important very high voltage inside - this is not joke over 7000 Volts and more. I very like this sound.
Electrostatic sound is very specific not for everyone. Listener must be mellow,
experienced, efficiency, practice, hackneyed :) because these speakers are very difficult to listen in small rooms, very difficult positioning, and very hard to find good amplifier partner with coegsists together with sonical harmony without harsness,
bright, sharp sound. With bad audio components they sound terrible.
Very much demanding speakers like Infinity series from mids `80 years.
Very low impedance kill every weak amplifier - smoke and fuse dead :)
If you want bought these speakers for 4000 bugs you must pay now for the same
cash for stable amplifier. Speaker cables are important too. Never not use silver.
Audiostatic is very claear and bright - you can listen every micro detail in space
of fantastic sound. Sounds run from backing and from between speakers.
Sweet spot is only in one point - and remember only one place 0,5m. Very critical sweetspot. The constructor from Holland Ben Peters is noble specialist.
I recommend source Linn Ikemi or Quad CD-S99, amplifiers better tube than transistors but good hybrid is good idea, and cables Cardass or Albedo with gold.
Electrostatic likes large rooms and more space from rear wall - minimum 2 meters.
If you have small room esp. 12-20m2 forget about it and buy bookshelf speakers
or change your apartment and start new audiophile life with huge listening room :)
Every speaker love space especially electrostats, dipols, AMT air motion speaker,
magnetostats and of course dynmics speaker too.
Excuse me my english mistakes and best regards from Poland

Strength:

Natural uncoloured sound. Highresolution, revealing to details. Nice design.

Weakness:

Thin bass. Soundstage. Problem with placement.

I have used a pair of Cerwin-Vega earlier and wanted more resolution for my High End gear. I found these demospeakers for 30% discount at Balance (Cloucable)in Jönköping. After some problem when placeing the speakers I think I found the best compromise. The sound is very natural and uncoloured with lots of details. I can make the speakers dissapear if I stand on the right spot. It's very truthfull against voices. I had no problem with movies with lots of Dynamics like Master & Commander and We were soldiers. They don't use lot of footspace, much less than my CW's. The soundstage could be better because they where beaten by QRS Neptunus. I compensate the thin bass with the subwoofer up to 60Hz.

Strength:

A window open to the world of music!

Weakness:

Extreme difficulty to determinate the positions, it required large room an "air" around; dust is poison but if you live a "normal" life they live with you..;

I saw the ES R300 at e-bay auctions (used). White. I have connect these "doors" with Audio Research CA 50 Watt valve integrated amplifier, Garrard turntable 301 with Koetsu Black, EAR 834 and DVD player only for mechanism + D/D and D/A converters (but the turntable is always "on" against the CDs, sorry&think about!). Well, the sound of these SPKs is an open window, like you may have a giant Stax earspeakers, is very difficult to find the place 'cause the sound stage is a unique, but if you find it I think it sounds with no problem about jazz, rock and even metal music: yes the best is little musicians... If you need more bass or more I think you have to look about your cartridge or pre/phono not the AST and certainly the room! The room is 60 per cent the problem of these fantastic speakers... Construction is poor, but I have replaced the main cables with TNT diy and some grey tak near the plastic that is over the main board. I hope all remains so for the time...

Strength:

Detailed, fast, natural sound without any lack of bass. You can listen for hours without tired ears.

Weakness:

Limited soundpressure If you like a earthquake sound, look further. However a subwoofer can be a solution, but becareful!!

I`m a electrostatic listener for many years (6) I had normal DCI speakers For about one month I have now th DCI-LT (Long Throw ,4 trafo system) It is a substantional improvement. In combination with Linn wakonda/LK140 it sounds easy. Of course be careful! To much dust, humidity en smoke is not good for de speakers, also look out with sharp instruments (the mylar folie is easy to penetrate).

Strength:

The best speakers I ever heard

Weakness:

1) None that a good subwoofer wouldn´t cure. 2) Electrostatic elements don´t live forever. They are a replacement-part

I have a pair of Audelcons, the DIY version of the DCI Audiostatic. It is a shame that this DIY version is no longer available. They sound very transparent and analytic. Superb staging. Don´t expect high levels of ultra-low bass.

Strength:

Awesome clarity.

Weakness:

Quite a lot.

I have owned these speakers since 1996 where I bought them as a demo pair. These speakers are for people who loves what electrostats can do and are willing to never be satisfied with the sound!! You see, set up is alfa and omega here, move them an inch and everything falls apart, move your head an inch and it falls apart too. But, I love this because I still feel I just got these speakers and are trying to find the right spot for them! I can play with these speakers for hours, getting different sound. I have just got new panels in them, I do not mind really. I feel that if you buy high end equipment you must service it once in a while, just like a car. I use the speakers with a Sonic Frontiers SFL-1 Signature,Coda 10.5,Rega Planar 3/ortofon MC 25FL/Lehman Black Cube and have a Boston VR 500 sub to assist under 50 hz or so.

Strength:

clarity, coherence, detail, dynamism

Weakness:

limited peak volume

these are comments for DCI+ model (now called DCI4 i believe)
overall they are excellent for my needs: chamber music and choral. for music with very strong low frequencies i imagine you need a subwoofer (they make an e-stat one). it is well worth experimenting with both speaker placement and seating position. this can easily change the sound from inert to very dynamic. with my tastes i will never go back to conventional dynamic speakers with multiple drivers and passive crossovers.
rest of system: meridian cd player, audiosynthesis propassion attenuator (dual mono), chord poweramplifier, goertz speaker cable.

Overall sound

Weakness:

None

I have owned the ES 600's for the pass 10 years, with no problems. These speakers replaced my Quad 63's. I use tube amps:Atma-Sphere Mk60 Mk II Rev. 1 or NYAL OTL 1 on the top and a McCormack DNA 1 amp on the woofers and Alpha Core cables in a 14.5' W x 21' L x 10' H. The soundstage is deep and wide, and the instruments can be picked out individually. The bass is tight and the midrange is glorious. I listen to jazz and at times the music goes beyond the outer edges of the speakers. These speakers are not lacking in any of the musical areas. Dr Gizmo agreed with my assessment on one of his visits and so does Doug Casara (Julius Futtermans protege) whose ears I trust and knows quite a bit on these speaker. Ben Peters is on to something with this design. It is unfortunate that they did not go over well in the USA, and I believe it was poor marketing. However they are up and running in Germany, check their website.Sometimes months go by and I do not vacuum the speakers; agreed they do not like smoke and so does some humans. SO!!! I still own them after 10 years and there are no plans to change anytime soon. I am THERE and just having fun TWEAKING.
