Strength:

3D sound, enormous dynamics in midrange, very revealing, they disappear better than any speaker in the class, looks cool

Weakness:

Treble not as good as the very best, too much level in midbase

The Virgos are much better than I had expected, they have low cost drivers, and the speaker have been on the market for a pretty long time now. I use them together with a Zapsolute 78w class A poweramp, a Frontline 97 preamp (both solid state) and a modified Sony 7700 dvd player. The sound is almost neutral (with metal stands), very fast and dynamic base and midrange, and they disappear. This is my favourite speaker for jazz, rock and techno. Dynabel Euforia (Norwegian High End loudspeaker-costing about the same), are less fussy in the treble, but doesn`t have quite the same dynamics and soundstage. B&W 803 Nautilus are NOT as revealed as the Virgo, the dynamics are classes below, but it has a better treble. When i connected a bigger poweramp to the Virgos, a Dynamic Precision 6.3,the treble and base became better. I think many of objections of this loudspeaker could have been avoided if you connect a big and good enough power amp, special small tube amps can make problems in the base.

Strength:

Extremly plastic reproduction - almost a 3D speaker
Elliminates the need of a center-speaker if used in a home-cinema enivronment using phantom mode.

Weakness:

no bi-amping possible

An excellent loudspeaker with a very warm and soft touch - although it reproduces any 3 dimensional music!

These speakers nearly blew me away when I first heard them @ Audio Outlet(www.audiooutlet.com).Needless to say , a few months later I purchased a pair and love them. These speakers are one of the most transparent and listener fatigue free speakers on the market PERIOD!!!!!!! They disappear better than any speaker on the market!!! Overall, NO SPEAKER under 15,000 approaches them. Listen and compare for yourselves!!!!

I went to Sound by Singer and asked for the best thing they had in the $10-15,000. I heard a bunch of speakers. JM Labs, Egg Andras, MBLs...( I also tried Theil( also good), B&W, Pro Ac(I liked these too), Aerial, NHT, Joseph Audio and sum others) This is the speaker for me, AND, its only $5000 grand retail!!! Just listen to it... I listen to Jazz mostly and am shocked how exciting these sound. Smooth, Open and you just want to listen to them. I found the best cable match to be Nordost. I tried Kimber 4ag, Cardas Sumthin? and AudioQuest Midnight3. Heres the hard part tho... They sound great if placed correctly and DEAD if there near the rear wall or not in a good spot. GO LISTEN, I was won over and I wanted to spend more..system: Pass, ARC and Nordost and WireWorld Silver inter

These are the most musical/easy/fun speakers Ive heard!!! I was in shock when I first listened and can honestly say I felt stupid spending so much on my current speakers( MBL). Well the Virgos are now in my den and the MBLs are going to my sisters house. The one bad thing about these speakers is there is no way to protect the drivers from doggy licks. Oh well...
By the way M Fremmer of the Tracking Angle and Stereophile is how I first heard of these, he uses them.

I just listened to these speakers at the stereo shop in Arlington. Wow! I have never heard anythig like this before. The soundstaging was incredible. The bass was tight, controlled, very natural. I was a little concerned with the midrange, but I changed music, and trumpets, voices, and saxaphones sounded completely natural. I listened to a wide range of music on a Wadia 860 and a Pass Aleph 10? Amp. BTW that amp runs hot as hell. For the money, I can't thin of a better system. I listen to Dynaudio's now, and the Audio Physics do what Dyn's do even better. I am short on praise, but these speakers are clearly 5 stars. Unfortunately, I don't have $5400 in the bank, so it's time to start saving!

I never expected to buy a speaker like the Audio Physic Virgo 2s. Even though, many years ago, when I first 'decided' on a system that I would aim to build, they included a German brand known simply as Audio Kontrast - speakers which, at the time, displayed cutting-edge imaging qualities, as well as the timbral accuracy which is integral in the Virgo design.
In actual fact, I almost purchased a pair of Sonus Faber Electa Amator 2s, a design which I continue to admire, and which manage to demonstrate many of the qualities of the fabulous Amati Homage. I still hope to marry either the Virgos, or the Amati Homage to Pass Labs amplification in the not too distant future.

No, the Virgos were not my first choice. But I was lucky enough to hear them after they had been pain-stakingly set up by a dealer in Bath, in west England (The Right Note), and was delighted by the result: In some respects they lack the last degree of ease that the Electa Amators are able to conjure, and also could be criticised for note portraying enough body to certain instruments. But as we all have no doubt come to learn, much can be gained/lost by virtue of the specific listening room acoustics. Set up well, the Virgos would have me believe that I have somehow managed to buy a £12,000 speaker for a mere £3,500.

You can read much about the astonishing characteristics of this design elsewhere in this section; but little has been said about their overall integrity and coherence, and above all, their unbending faithfulness to music, and the spirit of whatever is played through them. Its one of those rare products where discussion of its timing, spatial definition, tonal accuracy, and particularly dynamic expression is pointless: it excels in all these areas (as close to state-of-the-art as is possible, this side of £25,000) but there's more to it than that. It is blessed with the ultimate prize of synthesis - marrying all these potentially mutually exclusive facets into a blissful whole, enabling you to concentrate on the wealth of musical detail/insight that lies buried in your silver/black discs. You would do well to audition this design if you are both an audiophile AND a music-lover.

One word of warning though: do NOT go anywhere near where these speakers are playing, unless a) you are in the spending mood, or b) you have purposely left all your means of payment some 20 kilometres from the dealer's listening room! You have been warned!!!

Associated gear:

CD: NVA CD70 (Nene Valley Audio) - an esoteric, hair-shirt UK design.

Amp: NVA AP80 - int. amp with four 160VA toroidal transformers, Darlington devices, A ceramic/metallic potentiometer, and hard-wired wherever poss. No inductors.

Cables: Nordost Blue Heaven Interconnect and Speaker Cables:

Supports: Mana Reference table x 2 (soon).
