I have the Legacy IIs, not IIIs--though they are exactly the same, except the IIIs were built with a taller cabinet.
These are virtually colorless speakers, though the soundfield is a bit tight. But incredible bass response and natural sound make these an outstanding bargain.

They look geat too.

A very good pair of speakers for the first time audiophile. I got a pair of them for a little over $300, which I could have found lower if I would have looked harder. However, this model is a little old and would most likely be impossible to find new. For those unfamiliar with the format. They have a one inch soft dome tweeter, a dual voice coil ten inch low frequency transducer, a sealed enclosure, and a impedence switch which can go from 6 to 8 ohms. The last feature can be used when wiring more speakers to an amplifier. They should be left at 6 ohms, because at 8 ohms most of the bass is lost and there is a tremendous dip in sensitivity. The Legacy's are beautiful speakers with pecan top and bottom panels which can blend into any decor. Bass is rather tight thanks to the generous amount of fiberglass stuffing within. The tweeter is a little on the weak side lacking the spaciousness of costlier tweeters. At 90 decibels 2.83v 1W/m, they have a slightly above sensitivity. One problem with these speakers is the lack in much midrange. Overall, they are nice looking and natural sounding if you are willing to give up extremely deep bass (<40 hz) and an enveloping soundstage.

My hat is off to these speakers. Even though the 1" soft dome tweeter is laking power this can be easily made up with a strong center speaker. The 10" woofer is also amasing. I listen to alot of culb and house music so they get a really good work out and I have never had them distort.

I've had my Legacy III's for several years now and I still enjoy them. The only thing I've noticed over the years is that the treble can be a bit harsh, especially when listening to CD's. But overall they provide good bass and midrange. Work well both for music and for films. Excellent value.

Strength:

MELLOW,DEFINES THE BOSTON SOUND(QUIET).SMOOTH AND SWEET.EASY ON THE EARS.(LEGACY II)

Weakness:

2 DRIVERS CANNOT DO THE JOB OF A DEDICATED WOOFER,MIDRANGE AND TWEETER.

I WOULD RECOMEND THEM TO ANYONE.THEY LOOK AS GOOD AS THEY SOUND.CANNOT COMPARE TO MY PIONEER HPM 100'S.I WOULD PROBABLY GIVE THEM 5 STARS BUT...CANNOT COMPARE TO MY PIONEER HPM 100'S.

Strength:

Deep low bass, easy listening character, good looks

Weakness:

because of the 10" two-way, some complex passages arn't quite as clear

I found these on close-out for 200$ a pair, and couldn't resist picking them up. I have never regretted the decision. Deep bass is tight and powerful, however do leave the impedance switch at 6 ohms- they won't sing otherwise. I have found the high-end to be excellent, perhaps others out there have had other experience with differn't electronics. Granted a 10" 2-way cannot fully resolve complicated passages, however I have found that tinkering with placement plays great dividends with these speakers. For all that they do so well, deep bass, easy-listening character, and price. I'll never part with mine.

I bought these ~4 years ago and have been very pleased. For the price (~300) they are hard to beat. They have a clean, colorless sound. Not too much bass response, but I have a sub, so that is fine by me. Midrange is not too bright, and they have an excellent visual appeal.

Strength:

Reasonably priced for the quality you are getting,Mine are
the Legacy ll's but are basically the same and have had them for over ten years.

Weakness:

Acoustic Suspension Style Speakers depends on placement and distance from walls...they need room to woof...this is where you get your bass response...these speakers need room.

Since new Ive been using an Onkyo TX-830@58watts per channel
tuner/amp with these Advent Legacy ll's and have had over ten years of enjoyable sweet sounding music...With less of
a receiver I dont think I would have been so happy.
They take juice(power) to run and will handle over a hundred
watts of juice...They are well worth the $380 I paid for
them at Lechmere in 1980something...ive never regreted
not getting the Maestro's which were top of the line at that time...I cant complain about anything with them.
Theyre getting older and are still sweet to hear some
Classic Rock thru or Yanni...Im upgrading to B&W's
which are the Ultimate for today but as far as yesterday
The Advents were a tough act to follow for that kind of
denaro....They are still around so if you can find some
that are in reasonably good condition with their foam
replaced they will give you years of sevice to come.
Mine has the original foam and hasnt deteriorated in
any way but ive been reading some older speakers do that
especially bose...The wood on their tops and fronts
are real wood too.....imagine that!!
