A follow up to the earlier review- sub is now hooked up to accompany the satellites. What a great combo. I've listened to these with quite a few different styles of music and am very happy with their reproduction. Movies aregreat with these as well. Just waiting for a DVD player to see how they do with Dolby Digital and DTS. Overall, these are some of the best speakers in this price range, if not the best. I'll stick to my five stars on these.

Strength:

Versatile, Incredible Value, Excelent Power Handling, Rich Sound

Weakness:

Careful with the brackets; they won't rust, but they may brake if not carefully handled

I cannot be happier with my purchse.Pair it with the AR112PS and prepare to be blown away.My wealthier father spent thousands on Bose acoustimass and hasn't stopped kicking himself since.Even with my outdated and comparably weak SONY I get incredible sound.Very unobstrusive setup.
Advise to those harsh critics: I believe if you get a sub to complement your speakers you shouldn't expect any speaker to have particularily impressive bass. The idea is to combine efficiently. If you want more bass out of surround speakers(which I deem unnecessary unless you don't have a sub) I would recommend JBL N26. Listen to it at your local dealer and then order it from wholesaleproducts.com and own the best sounding system for under $500 shipping included!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

sound, highs, price

I recently got a chance to audition these side by side with the Atlantic Technology System 170, and was quite surprised. The audio store I went to had the Atlantics priced almost $600 more than the AR Edge system, but I felt the AR system clearly was the better of the two. I especially liked the crisp highs and midrange of the AR Edge system, and felt that the Atlantic's were very muddy sounding. Put this one down to personal preference.

Question: The standard AR Edge system has the same satellites all around (Edge sats), and does not use a separate Center Channel. How much of an improvement would I see if I invested a little more to get a AR C225PS center ?
The salesman said that the better systems have the same speakers all around, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I would appreciate a response.

Strength:

super clear highs and mid-range, excellent voice/instrument reproduction

Weakness:

none

I bought these as part of the HC2 package and I must tell you that these speakers are excellent. I use them for both music and movies and they do both perfectly.

Some may complain about a lack of bass, but that's not what they are for. Most everyone knows that speakers of this size are intended for highs and midrange and if you want bass, add a subwoofer. This is where the HC2 package comes in. Matching satellites and a sub that thumps; a perfect combination. Can't beat the price either ($520 including S/H).

I would recommend these to anyone that asks.

Strength:

High sensitivity, clarity in midrange and highs, good frequency range for size, shielded, mounting brackets.

Weakness:

NEED a sub to fill out sound. What do you expect from a 5 1/4" woofer and 1" tweeter though?

I was going to buy the HC2 set for my home theater, but then I decided to buy it in pieces instead of upgrading the center channel and subwoofer at a later date.

Looked at/listened to several Polk, Bose and JBLs, but went with these based on reviews and statistics. The Polk R10's were pretty nice too, but I like the sound of these a little better, plus they have a higher sensitivity. Was disappointed with the Bose and JBLs I heard for various reasons.

I'm extremely pleased with this purchase and will VERY likely buy another pair for rears in the near future. I haven't heard better in or near this price range.

Strength:

Great design and size. Clear Highs and Mids. Nice little package

Weakness:

Bass is a bit soft but what can you expect from a 5 1/2 bookshelf

After running my Advent Baby II's for about 10 years, which they have been through quite a lot and held up well, I needed a new pair of bookshelf speakers. Came across the AR Edge and loved them but didn't want to spend $150. J&R had a post holiday sale and I snagged them for 90/pair. The sound quality is great for these little guys. The high are clean and crisy but not too rough. Mid also fairs well and the bass is decent. When you get a bit lower the speak struggles but that is where a sub will take over anyway. The small stand built into the speaker is nice. It allows you to angle the speaker the way you like but that thing is tough to move out of the box. I suppose over time it will soften up. Overall, a quality speaker for a great price. They make a great main speaker set for an apartment and could also be a great surround set in a theater setup.

Strength:

clearity, power handling, overall sound

I bought these speakers to put in an enclosed hot tub room. The original receiver I hooked them up to would not push the speaker. I hooked them up to my main system and these things came alive! Give them the power and they love it! I used these as my only pair of speakers while remodeling my house. I was impressed by their overall sound and clarity. I loved them so much that after mounting them in the hot tub room I bought the HC2 system for my surround sound. I want a pair for the back yard and the garage.

The AR 'The Edge' are small efficient high quality A/V hi-fi speakers. They are also shielded and waterprooof.
The sound is very good from my Sony Profeel stereo monitor(mounted on each side of the monitor) and VHS Hi-Fi Video. They will sound even better when I purchase a good 30-100W Pro-Logic amp as the Sony monitor only has a 10W RMS per channel amp.

Been looking for a sub.sat. combo for a while. Bose, Polk, Infinty, couldn't cut it for good mid and high, and most of the subs that came with these systems were pretty weak. So I made my own system, AR Edge, and Kenwood sub. The Edge speakers sounded GREAT even without the sub! They were a little bigger than I wanted, smaller than Bose outdoor, but the sound and built in wall mount/base was excellent. Any questions drop me a e-mail.

Been looking at a lot of other sat/sub systems- Boston, Polk, Klipsch, Bose- andpicked these up at Future Shop (which is closing) for $640. I haven't had a chance to get the sub hooked up yet but, the speakers themselves are quite impressive- better mids than any of the others that I listened to. Very pleased with the setup so far
