Strength:

Excellent seperation, not muddy at all

Weakness:

a bit sharper than most soft-domes

For the price, I honestly believe that Wharfedale is the way to go. If you want a smooth sounding, crisp & clear center that does a very good job reproducing the vocal range, and don't want to spend $1000+ on just the center channel, this is the way to go!

The Wharfedale Modus Music Center is great. I had bought the Bose VCS-10 centerspeaker for $199.99 and the bought the Wharfedale for $120.00 at Ubid and took
the Bose back that day for a refund. The difference is like night and day. The Wharfedale is crisp, clean, solid and loud. Awesome, man.

Weakness:

None yet

Got it from UBid for $97 plus s/h. Seems like a good deal so far. Sounds great. One concern: There were no warrantee papers delivered with the speaker, so I called UBid. They gave me a Wharfedale phone # to use in case there is a problem in the future. I suspect that there may be problems from the Wharfedale people if a problem did arise. Has anyone heard one way or another?
If the speaker operates as it should (no reason to this otherwise at this time) I would recommend the value of this speaker.

Strength:

Excellent housing, excellent sound

Weakness:

none.

This Wharfedale Modus Music Center is a great center channel, even though it is being discontinued. I purchased this piece from Ubid for $140 w/shipping. I can't tell you how much you get for this price!! There are many center channels out there that cost over $300 and by far, Wharfedale Modus Music Center tops it. Simply put, Wharfedale products are superior in sound, build, and reliabilty.

I'm back... I have tried breaking in all my speakers and here are the results.

having received my modus center and valdus 500s to go with my AV7 Nak I have the following review.

The av7 is the best purchase of the bunch! When I goto digital I'll add a decoder. The difference between the Onkyo 474 I tried at home and this receiver is huge! Seems that u-bid is running out of them at this point. But great buy at 300 + shipping.

The Valdus 500s are doing what I need of them. Big HT speakers with good bass and clear highs. The mids are just fine for the acoustic guitars, jazz I listen to. They look so much better than the picture provided at u-bid!!!!

The Modus center is the big disappointment here. I ended up going out and buying the energy center because it is so much better as a center channel. If you have a chance try the Energy center against Klipsch etc and decide which one provides the most realistic sound. The Modus center makes everyone sound like their voice is muffled or deeper than it should be! I will end up using it as a rear channel.

Strength:

Value, appearance, and of course sound. Particularly good in use for dialogue.

Weakness:

If you have size constraints, be careful. Will not rest lightly on your TV.

Exactly what I expected. Clean, accurate on music and dialogue, nice package, at a great price. Bought it at uBid for under $115, including shipping. Also ordered 2 Wharfedale Modus 1.6 speakers, but one is hung up in transit, so will have to comment on entire line-up later. Used with a Onkyo TX-DS 575 (excellent receiver).

sound, price, appearance

Weakness:

none so far

I purchased this center from UBid for $97. Besides being a great bargain, it is the only center I have tested that truely blends with the front and rear. I did find it important to use good cable to hook it up (I used Monster cable). Don't miss the bargains on Wharfedale products currently available at UBid. I also bought the Modus One-Six for front speakers (less than $300/pr.) and a equally pleased.

Strength:

Very clean, but not overbearing or "tinny" with its silk tweater. The dual drivers with the silk tweater provide a comfortable listening experience.

Weakness:

Not the most attractive speaker.

I bought this for $87 + shipping on ubid. You try and find a better deal on a speaker this good. I have listend to the Bose (yuck), JBL, Infinity....center channels and this Wharfedale is equal, if not better in some cases. For those of you with a gazillion bucks to spend, go somewhere else. For those that are on a budget and like to get good sound and quality for the money, buy this.
