PSB Speakers Image 9C Center Channels

DESCRIPTION

In this larger center channel, the Image tweeter combines with two 6-1/2" woofers to provide full-range, high-output center-channel sound. Its aptitude for clarifying even the most elaborate, demanding, many-layered soundtracks includes the ability to handle very loud levels in large rooms.

can anyone tell me if they would recomend using the 9c as a lcr across the front...do you think they could handle music fairly well at high levels as long as i could adjust the crossover point.....and also,is it biampable...thanks

Strength:

Powerful bass,excellent dialogue

Weakness:

Large size,small supplied feet

This has been an excellent upgrade to my HT the Cerwin Vega I had for a center just was overpowered by my Ohm Walsh 2 mains. With the size of this center I can't think of anything in this price range of main speakers that would be to big for it.It goes much lower in tone than my previous center and movies have a much better presence for both effects and dialogue.

Strength:

Reproduces dialogue and effects remarkably. Good Magnetic shielding. This is the mother of all Center Channels...for the price.

Weakness:

Size....this is a beast. On top of my 53" Hitachi HDTV is no problem. No tilt down feature. No sound related weaknesses.

When I was looking to upgrade my Home theatre speakers I wanted to do it right this time and be done with it. Thank you PSB. I purchased the 9C (center), Image 5T (left/right main...see review in Speakers Section) and the Image Alpha S (surrounds) I'm still waiting for the Alpha S...can't wait.

My salseman had me sold on the PSB Image 8C. As I was walking by one of the displays to pay for the 8C I noticed the 9C. I thought to myself...look at this monster. This is a center channel. I believe that the CC is one of...if not the most important speaker in a HT set up. I auditioned the 9C and what a difference. Hooked up to my ONKYO TX-DS787, dialogue was clear, clean and reproduced faithfully. Voices are natural. Everything that was supposed to be in front of you, was. Effects that come out of the CC blend well with the Image 5T's. This CC can even handle bass.

I have nothing bad to say about the Image 9C. If you are in the market for a CC and have the space, get the mother of all CC's in my opinion. My PSB Home Theatre ROOCKS!!!

Strength:

BIG sound! Clear highs! Deep Lows!

Weakness:

BIG

This speaker is by far the best center channel I have ever had! Although it is the biggest I've seen or had, it is by far a great sounding speaker. My 5T's and 2B's will not overpower this thing! I have had my 5T's up quite loud and my 9C ripped right through it with the speech. Saving Private Ryan is a great example. I had the 8C for a couple of days, but after hearing the 9C I'm glad I upgraded. 100% satisfied in this great piece of work. Love it, Love it, Love it. I can say enought about PSB other than if your looking for an exceptional speaker at a great price check them out.

Strength:

Great sound for the price. Nice deep lows and highs that aren't bright.

Weakness:

None so far.

I put together a PSB HT system (detailed below) and I had initially purchased the 8C center. However, just before I went to pick them up, I discovered that my armoire had enough clearance on the CC shelf to handle the size of the 9C. That made my decision very easy...I called and upgraded to the 9C.
The sound from this CC speaker is tremendous. It handles both male and female voices like a champ and makes a wonderful compliment to my 6T's in front. The 9C uses the same 6 1/2" drivers and has the same crossover as the 6T's. It's a bit bulky, but like I said, if you can fit it into your cabinet, I believe that it's worth it.
I picked the 9C up for $325. This was only $100 more than the $225 I was going to spend on the 8C. So far, I am extremely pleased with the whole PSB system, both for movie and music purposes (especially since I like to play around with the 5-ch stereo when listening to CD's). For the money I spent, I feel that I have a top-of-the-line HT system that fits within a reasonable budget.

My system:
PSB 6T's (fronts)
PSB 9C (center)
PSB Custom M6.1Rs (rears - ceiling mounted)
PSB Subsonic 6 (sub)
Marantz SR-7000 Receiver (as good as advertised)
Pioneer DVD-525 (tough to beat for $180)

Strength:

vocals, bass, depth

Weakness:

size, weight

just an unbelieveable center speaker. a bit heavy and may not sit comfortably on top of your tv. I had the missions for a while and it sounded wonderful, until I heard the 9C. then, I heard the 8C; it was IMHO better than the missions, but the 9C sounded even better, adding even more (amazing) depth and presence.

Movies have never sounded the same! I've not heard every center channel out there, but the only one i've heard better are those really expensive martin logans...

Strength:

Very powerful center channel: crisp and detailed reproduction.

Weakness:

None noted.

Using it in my home theatre in combination with the 6T's (still waiting on), Subsonic 6 and 2B's for the surrounds. I found an appreciation for PSB with there Century model and almost bought them when they announce the Image series. It was worth the wait (and still is for the 6T). The vocal clarity is amazing; movies never sounded better! I power the system with an NAD T770 and could not be happier for the price paid and the quality received! You cannot hardly buy one of those highly advertised bargain buy store systems (Bose, Sony, Harmon Kardon, Infinity) for the price you would pay for a much nicer NAD/PSB setup!

Strength:

Powerful center channel speaker

Weakness:

If the size doesn't bother you, it is well worth getting the 9C over the 8C. I had the 8C for several months and upgraded to the 9C. The 9C goes, as one would expect, deeper in the bass. The weight of the sound is greater (more presence) and the brightness associated with the 8C is gone (interesting, because the same tweeter is used). It is difficult to believe that such an inexpensive speaker can create such great sound. I use the 9C with 5Ts, the Subsonic 6, and 3LRs in the rear. Amazing home theater sound for a relatively nominal cost. Looks good, too.

Strength:

looks, imaging, bass, bang for buck

Weakness:

break in period 100 hours

I bought these a long with the 5t's for the front, and the 2b for the rears.

PSB speaker are by far the best sounding, best looking for the money.

I have listened to music and they sound very nice but they shine in home theater, they image so well, you could shut your eyes, and still be in the movie.

I got all 5 speakers for $1030 from Jea Wong at this email DIAMONDNO1@aol.com He can make you a good deal on any PSB speaker system.
