I have a full original Energy line from the 90's and it continues to perform and amaze me and our guests. The EC-200 center speaker is matched to my C-4's and RVSS surrounds with an s10.3 subwoofer. The projected sound stage from this timber match is quite large and impressive.

If you're in the market for very well made, sonically truthful speakers, then the Energy line is one that should be considered. Particularly, if you can acquire the speakers from the 90's, you'll be getting well crafted speakers (yes, these were ALL Made in Canada when Energy was under Audio Products International in Scarborough, Ontario). Nothing against Klipsch taking over the Energy brand, but it's not the same quality when it's not Made in Canada.

Back to the EC-200, the range is impressive with frequency response 45Hz-22kHz and up to 150RMS. Sensitivity is perfect at 90dB and the mid-range tonality is superb with these specs. Vocals from movies are seamless and the presence is ambient and crisp.

The low end bass is surprising deep and matches the RVSS and C-4's nicely. Bass is achieved via the dual 5.25" drivers.

Some timber critics may gawk at the fact that the C-4 tweeter vs EC-200 tweeter are not true matches based on differences in materials used for construction (aluminum vs. multi-laminate), but the sound is truly pure regardless.

I've had this center speaker for 12 years now and it still performs like it did after the initial break in of 100 hours.

Back in 1998, I paid $300 Canadian for this EC-200 and the closest speaker from Energy today might be the RC-RCL Reference Connoisseur Center speaker at about $799. Spec-wise, these two centers would face-off quite closely, but I'm biased to the vintage design of the EC-200 and give it the edge based on my personal listening experience and (once again), the Made in Canada factor for the EC-200 generation speakers.

Audio Products International was a catalyst in delivering an audiophile approved line of Energy speakers from the 90's. If you can get your hands on the EC-200, C-2/4/6/8 and RVSS, you will not be disappointed.

Enjoy.

Energy C-6, RVSS surrounds, and an Velodyne HGS 12" sub. I don't think you can find a better center channel under $300.00.

One cannot underestimate the importance of the center channel in 5.1 surround. I believe it to be far more important in creating a believable experience than any of the other channels especially in dialogue heavy movies.

The EC-200 is near ideal. For the price, the sound is exceptional and will compete with rivals costing double. Much better than the Take 5 and Encore, they have a wide frequency range and are completely transparent throughout.
this is one of my most pleasing purchases.
